    Cake
    Unsalted butter, for the pan
    2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the pan
    2 teaspoons cinnamon
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon ground ginger
    1 teaspoon kosher salt
    1/4 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
    1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    2 large eggs
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
    1 1/2 cups unsweetened (preferably homemade) applesauce
    2/3 cup vegetable oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    Caramel Glaze
    1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
    1/3 cup (or more) heavy cream
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into chunks
    1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
    3/4 cup (or more) sifted powdered sugar

    Whenever my mom made her Applesauce cakes, she would take the applesauce and add baking soda to it to take out the acidity of it. Her cakes were famous in our small town. She didn't make just one cake, she would make atleast a 18+ cakes and freeze them then give them as Christmas gifts. I would try to be sneaky and get one out of the freezer and not even wait for it to defrost before I started eating it, it was so good!! I miss my mom and dad so much more during the holidays.

    My wedding cake was a spice cake with apple filling, amazing. And I feel like this may be the closest I can get to the flavor. Def trying it, thanks!

    Definitely in my Saved file + emailed it to myself as well as added it to my Home Screen on my phone as a way to nudge me to make it. Next time I'm aimlessly walking up + down the supermarket aisles doing my mundane standard grocery shopping, I can open my home screen to check the list of ingredients and grab whatever I need, there + then. 🌺 Thanks

    This looks almost exactly like a cake my Grandma made, except her cake had no pepper but it did include walnuts and raisins, was baked in a 9×13, and had enough powdered sugar to make frosting instead of glaze.

      Baking times for cakes are only estimates. You should always remove a cake as soon as a cake tester or toothpick shows that it's done. Even a couple minutes past this point can affect the quality.

      Just try microdose with bits of egg to build up ur tolerance to it. Or try a flax seed baking egg sub.

      You could use more applesauce in place of the eggs. That’s a common substitute

      Yeah you can add more applesauce, just try and get it to the consistence you see in the video before baking and it should work. But who really knows ☺

    I'm surprised that there is oil as well as applesauce. Many cakes can have the oil subbed out for applesauce. I wonder...
