One of my favourite games OF ALL TIME. I still load it up from time to time, and I still find that last bar level to be an absolute bastard to get through.
I played this game in 90's (yeah well, Speccy lived it's separate from other world's life then in snowy Russia). I love the music from the first level. Somehow like funeral. Great. Every next level was to be loaded from the tape. These fantastic sounds are forever in my ears. This was one of the best loved games. Together with Saboteurs, Firefly and Dizzies.
it took me fookin hours to complete this, damn i am old, just watched the c64 version I was a spectrum man myself, although its shitter it some how makes it better lol
Gotta love the unintended humor in this game. 1. The hero looks like he's got a permanent smile on his face. 2. At 18:03, you see that the public restroom is next door to the food bar. 3. At 20:43, Statler from the Muppets comes out to fight you.
This game was the best version. I've played the c64 version and it didn't capture the 'hardness' of the speccie. The only way I beat the big bad was with reverse kick
Good longplay. The playability is even better in the Amstrad version because the later enemies are tougher and a bit puzzle-like. In the last two stages you can't outpunch the guys, they beat you most the time in a face to face fight and you have to use the rear kick a lot after jumping above their heads.
Mike Lamb programmed a ton of amazing Speccy games for Ocean besides Renegade and Target Renegade. Robocop, Batman: The Movie, Steve Davis Snooker. The dude was an incredible coder.
Renegade was better on Spectrum but still crappy because of the extreme difficulty (last level one hit kills, only the final boss in Target has them). It's amazing how much better this one is and how it makes the first one entirely obsolete and not worth playing.
I like it, but it would have worked better over an intro that told some sort of story. It has that sad, melancholic feel of a city that's fallen to crime.
ZX spectrum was unknown for me and when mine brother was away for a long period, I've learned how to load cassette by himself on the memory) load target renegade)
How I finished this with a cheetah joystick is beyond me, and the original renegade too. I bought that for ps4 and I can't do it, I just can't. Ridiculously difficult. 10 year old me would be so disappointed in me...
When poke meant hack lol..oh and when you lose on Mr Big and keep tapping on a key when entering your name let it scroll and pressing enter just to get the infinite lives and continue where left off. Them days.
This game proves that the rest of the people making games for the Spectrum were lazy putting out crap colourless graphics on their games along with shite sound effects. A few more games done like this and maybe more people would have bought the Spectrum! I remember back in the day being pissed off a few times with shity 48k games still being put out for the spectrum when the 128k had been out coming on 3 years at the time. Imagine playstation 5 still bringing out ps4 games and a handful of ps5 games 2 years later. I think people would definitely ditch the playstation after that!
I played this game to death as a kid, the nostalgia is overwhelming.
A Spectrum masterpiece
Played this at the age of 6, best game I had on the Spectrum!
...when it didn't crash while loading!

The co-op on this was awesome. Me and my mate played for hours.
This games music so spooky and gameplay was amazing! How I miss the 80s
The music has an early Depeche Mode vibe about it.
Looking back, this game is so English: The Big Bad is the Hard Man at your local Snooker Hall?
it took me fookin hours to complete this, damn i am old, just watched the c64 version I was a spectrum man myself, although its shitter it some how makes it better lol
Even though it looks worse and the scrolling is absurdly jerky , this seems to play better than the C64 version.
Me and my friend used to play this game a lot on his plus 2. The music is amazing especially the Mall level. Pure nostalgia

First game I ever saw on the ZX Spectrum, at a mate's house. It blew my mind.
This game was the best version. I've played the c64 version and it didn't capture the 'hardness' of the speccie. The only way I beat the big bad was with reverse kick
Speccy and Amstrad versions were both incredibly good. C64, not so much.
Also you had no two player that the Amstrad and Speccy versions had.
The good old days 👊🏾
You know how to play dude. Flying kick, back kick then grab and kick in the balls. That's the way!
Good longplay. The playability is even better in the Amstrad version because the later enemies are tougher and a bit puzzle-like. back kick was under rated. Down and punch smacks them on the floor. Me on kempston my mate on keys. Happy days. That pool q though fml
thats why i like this music
Load "" Enter.. Beautiful minimalist game sound
Good to see this again. The first level looks a lot longer and harder than some of the later bits.
great game fond memories, 10/10
Props to the programmer! The ZX ain't easy to prog for, but the animation and hi-res graphics are impressive for the Speccy.

One of the few games I ever completed. I loved it, it was fucking awesome. Kicking the bikers off their bike was just great.
I was very young when I played this in the 80s and still youngish now 😄 I enjoyed it's music
Level 2 music is even better on Amstrad CPC
For a game about guys beating the crap out of each other it has such a somber soundtrack.
The music in the first stage is really weird.
It sounds more like a funeral song for Ninja Gaiden rather than music for beat 'em up game.
I like it, but it would have worked better over an intro that told some sort of story. It has that sad, melancholic feel of a city that's fallen to crime.
Level 2 it’s great fun to use the girls as human shields against the pimp’s gun😂
This game is a classic. Renegade the first one was really good as well. I think these weree better than double dragon
ZX spectrum was unknown for me and when mine brother was away for a long period, I've learned how to load cassette by himself on the memory) load target renegade)
That'll teach Mr Big in the billiards room to have a such a dodgy moustache
Joystick blisters!!!
fun fact they switched music in cpc version the music of the fourth level is in fact the music of the 4th.
Love this game
ScareScraper Totals of F4 24:02 Penguin Toadette
awesome!!!
How did Ocean go from producing this to the travesty that is Renegade 3?
One of fav speccy games, if not my fav!! Compared to Renegade it was mucg easier to play!
I can't recall the music been so bad??
Lassus agreed this music fucking owned so eerie and somehow spooky
Everybody was fighting in 90 Mortal Kombat was everywhere
How I finished this with a cheetah joystick is beyond me, and the original renegade too.
I bought that for ps4 and I can't do it, I just can't. Ridiculously difficult.
10 year old me would be so disappointed in me...
I completed this on a spectrum emulator last week.
When poke meant hack lol..oh and when you lose on Mr Big and keep tapping on a key when entering your name let it scroll and pressing enter just to get the infinite lives and continue where left off. Them days.
Better game of the world to spectrum. Know and was play.
Engineer, 8 courses of 8 years.
Spectrum 128k and dragon 64k with Unix.
I Remember this! Was this was around 86?
1988 :)
it's an ok port, my choice would be c64 it's ticks all boxes

You play so bad, lols, but thanks for upload, anyway!
wow this guy is really bad. If they're standing either side when you're down get out.
damn, but this takes me back. ^_^
the spectrum version wasn't the best looking, but it played the best.
