I've always really loved Keith Whitley's version of this song, but this one is great, too! Love the smooth 80's country sound on this version. Glen Campbell also has a good version of it on his Unconditional Love album from 1991. It's just a great song, all around!
The songwriter sings from the heart. They know the song because it came from a place inside of them that no one else completely understands. The credit for the song might by SKO but it sure sounds like a Paul Overstreet song and since he is singing the lead, I am guessing he was the main writer. So much better than Keith Whitley who was a great singer but obviously didn't understand the lyrics like Paul does.
Yeah, this version is more sparse and the production seems more dated. Keith Whitleys version had better guitar work and has stood the test of time. This one is good, but I think of it as the songwriting demo for Keith as sung by SKO.

Thank you!!! I've been searching for this for some time. I'm a huge fan of Keith Whitley, but this version wins hands down.

Skyker and overstreet wrote it.
This song was written by Paul Overstreet, Fred Knobloch and Dan Tyler
Are you F'ing kidding me? I love Paul Overstreet, but this is NOTHING compared to Keith's version.
This is the original. Whitley's version was the cover.
