this was definitely not one of the better ones, although still enjoyable. I understand why you might be hesitant to go back to the older ones, but there is so much quality that you wouldn't want to miss. 2015 was my favourite, but they are all great

Such a fun tradition. Love this show. Yet another that you can just pick at random and enjoy. So much Mitchell, a dash of Mack, Ayoade is on almost every one and can do no wrong. You are going to find other incredible talent and of course it's always a pleasure when Winkleman shows up.

The best years of this quiz were when Richard Iwadi and Noel Fielding played as a team. Also, I think you would like Tavel man with Richard. Many of his travel partners you already know. It's another quintessentially British show.

I would 100% recommend looking out for Richard in other panel shows. Hilarious personality.
If you wanted to do other BFQ episodes, I’d suggest either the decades variant (ie BFQ 90s, 80s etc) or the BFQ of everything, which uses a more pub trivia format of questions.
I’d also recommend Tiger King: it’s just insane enough that as you start to wonder why you’re watching it, something else happens that makes you want to watch the entire thing in one sitting

  • @Kari_B61ex

I would definitely recommend watching/reacting to Travel Man - It's a comedy travel documentary series, 48 hours in... with an actor or comedienne who join him on his travels. It's very funny, and the Bob Mortimer episode is one to watch.

  • @JordiVanderwaal
    @JordiVanderwaal 2 роки тому +5

That Tenet moment where David is like "didn't (the director) do another movie instead?" and they all look confused is my favourite part in the entire episode.*
The "what is time, what is space" moment was hilarious as well. So was James Acaster eating ice-cream and having a sugar rush.
*Sadly it got cut from the reaction here, but it's still worth mentioning. And this was my first Bit Fat Quiz Of The Year I ever watched (a few months ago). Now I've watched a few, but this is still my favourite so far.

Stacey Solomon started out as an X-Factor singer, but has gradually built a career as a TV personality and presenter. Her partner Joe Swash (who you will probably also not know) also pops up on panel shows here and there. They are - to be blunt - not the sharpest tools in the box, but they are genuinely nice people and almost impossible to dislike becasue they are simply so open, honest and enthusiastic about what they are doing.

I’m sure someone’s already recommended it but you’d probably get on with the spin off that they started doing a few years back now “big fat quiz of everything” which is more like general trivia/historical questions etc - and given how much better you do on only connect than the general population I’m sure you’d absolutely smash it. Great reaction as always Neil, thanks!

I'm happy you found your way back to BFQ. It's an awesome show. I would recommend giving the previous show a go, they can be fun even when you're not a Brit yourself or when a few years have passed since they originally aired.
There are also a couple of The Big Fat Quiz of Everything about, well, everything. Not year-specific. Plus, there are some BFQs about decades (the '90s, the noughties, maybe the '80s). They are also a lot of fun.
As for Richard Ayoade, I would check him out ASAP. He's hilarious. I love his incredibly dry humour.

Ok to address some of your questions - Stacey is a singer and TV presenter who came to light as a contestant in The X Factor; Maya Jama is a presenter and radio DJ; Richard was presenter of Travelman, baton now passed over to Joe. David came to TV via his sketch show with Robert Webb (That Mitchell and Webb Feeling?). BFQOTY tends to be broadcast between Xmas and NY for the year in question and as you say, questions are based on the year gone by (some questions are presented using standard formats year upon year - the school play, Charles Dance, John Snow etc). There are some other specials such as BFQ of Everything - same format, no restriction on when the answers derive. Good to see someone who takes the quizzing element seriously.

Check out Ayoade's Travel Man episode with Greg Davies. Chocolate and peanut butter. And cats.
Adding some thoughts at the conclusion of this reaction.
    - Ayoade = more acerbic and more awkward than David Mitchell?
    - Travel Man mostly bite-size (22-ish min), but with some longer specials sprinkled in.
    - Lots of panel show overlap with guests.
    - S02E04 w/ Davies; get to see the Taskmaster (titular) in a more natural light. Bemused vs. wrathful.

A suggestion, if you are looking for another fun UK quiz show try 'Richard Osman's House of Games'. The contestants are UK celebs (some will be familiar, a lot will not - but it really doesn't matter). The format is 30 mins long, many of the quizzes are fun as well as challenging, and the same contestants battle it out for a whole week (5 eps), with daily prizes awarded. There are five series of a hundred episodes to choose from, too!

If you haven't seen Richard Ayoade in anything, any of his BFQ appearances are worth watching, but especially the Big Fat Quiz of Everything 2016 part 1, when he and Noel Fielding became surrogate parents to Jack Whitehall, or part 3, when he stood up Rob Beckett's bullying. Also there’s been some really great episodes in past years that I often come back to - 2008 with Sean lock is a particularly notable year. Claudia was on that year too actually!! 2014 was also excellent - David Mitchell and Richard ayoade were on the same team, one of my all time fave comedians Micky Flanagan was on with Mel B (who everyone took the piss out of and it was hilarious) and Kevin bridges and Sarah millican were the final team who are also both excellent comedians. Hello there! I wanted to say, Hi, and let you know how much I appreciate you doing a reaction to Big Fat Quiz of the Year. I found this special in 2006 and have watched the new ones each year and binged all the episodes multiple times. Just to let you know, it started in 2004 and there are decade specials and Big Fat Quiz of Everything specials and I would love to see you dive deep into these shows. Yeah, there are a few British questions and events you may not know, but a lot of the questions are global. I found you a few months ago due to your Taskmaster reactions, another great show which I somehow missed for many years and found around early fall of 2020. I love British panel shows and David Mitchel is a particular favorite. I just started your Lost reactions and I'm almost up to date and will be on the waiting game for new reactions, but that's okay. I finally subscribed last week, just wanted to make sure there would be plenty of content that would keep me watching, as I hate subscribing to someone based on one of two videos and them never watching anything they upload. I don't comment on videos very often, so you may not see me in the comments, but I am around and I appreciate all the British show reactions.

Stacey Solomon is a singer and TV personality. She kinda floats around from TV show to TV show.
Also, the episodes around 2008-2013 were incredible, the recent ones are a bit meh. 2008 is the best one by far, Sean Lock runs riot the whole show.

  • @Codex7777
    @Codex7777 2 роки тому

I love the way you're taking it so seriously. :) As with most British quizzes and panel games, it's the humour and banter that are the real point. No one really worries about the scores, or who 'wins'. There are serious quiz shows. You mentioned most of them: Mastermind, University Challenge, 15 to 1 and Only Connect. There is also a raft of game shows, most eminently forgettable, where contestants compete for money and other prizes. Some of these involve pretty basic general knowledge questions but I wouldn't recommend them. There's also a small sub genre of hybrid shows, combining quiz/IQ elements with a light-hearted, entertainment slant. You CAN win money or prizes but the money will be paltry and the prizes shit, deliberately so. "Pointless" is the prime example of this genre. There are endless references to the, 'Pointless host' the 'Pointless contestants', the 'Pointless trophy' which you get if you win and the 'Pointless jackpot' which you stand a slim chance of getting and which is usually not very much. The show is entertaining though I think you'd prefer, 'Richard Osman's House of Games'. That features minor celebrities competing for really crap prizes, a dartboard, pillow case or fondue set, for instance. The questions mix IQ test type questions with general knowledge and although nowhere near the level of Only Connect or University Challenge, they're fun, provide some 'brain training' and can be genuinely challenging at times. :)

So I'm not sure if you said but this is presented in the style of a weekly British Pub Quiz, which is normally six (or so) questions followed by the answers per round then normally half way through there is a picture round. There's normally 15 or so teams of four-six people. They usually host the pub quiz on the quietest night in that pub, so normally a Monday or Tuesday.

Crowd and he now tends to present shows or parts of shows that you probably wouldn't ever see outside the UK, ie not comedy panel shows, although once in a while he will turn up for things like this.

Hiya. It's difficult to find Richard Ayoade stuff to react to because the majority of his work isn't in front of a TV or other camera. It's mainly voice work, presenting and film production and direction work. What you can find, however, is pure Class. Stay safe. All the best to you.

That's the original Jon Snow. The Game of Thrones one was named after him.

Jon Snow threw me too, first time I saw him, bc I know that name from Game of thrones only but he’s one of my favorite parts of this quiz.

My first exposure to Richard was 8 out of 10 cats (the original; not countdown), season 12, episode 1, I believe. That whole season was amazing.

Travel Man is great. Not quiz or anything of course but the Paul Rudd, Adam Buxton, John Hamm, Bob Mortimer and Kathy Burke ones were highlights to me. Would enjoy a reaction.

I'm not terribly familiar with Richard Aoyade (sp?) yet either, but I do know he and Rob Beckett work together a lot (currently have their own show, perhaps). I hope that info leads you down an enjoyable rabbit hole!

It’s very much like a pub quiz. Where you have rounds on a topic and all the questions get asked and you get the answers at the end of the round. I’ve heard they film for hours and hours which is why the all have food and drink with them. Some years are quite crazy with the antics, this one was quite tame in comparison as they obviously had to stay in their seats. Richard is hilarious, he just keeps straight faced always. I’ve never seen him break out of it. Travel Man is great you should check it out. Richard was the host but Joe is the new host which is airing soon.
