i saw this on twitter: after they sing “i love you”, they sing “…” to illustrate how their crush never responded back to them. since the song is about unrequited love. stayc really stepped up for this comeback so im sad its not getting the attention it deserves
From what STAYC have explained themselves, the title is called GPT as STAYC are the only ones who shows interest in the relationship by asking questions while the love interest just answers them like a chat bot. i.e it's a one sided relationship
I think it's kinda ironic that stayc's song referencing AI is actually criticizing the heavy reliance of technology in relationship (based on the MV) and making the term GPT a negative connotation for someone who's cold toward them in conversation (based on the lyrics), while there are songs out there which don't mention AI at all but incorporate it in their MV and concept 🥲 As an artist, I was also worried at first upon knowing the title of the song. But I'm glad stayc actually challenge the negative use of AI with this concept!
i was VERY scared that it was going to be an ai slopfest, either visually or in the song itself because of the name but i was so happy to be wrong! it’s one of my favorite stayc songs now. your thoughts on this are very interesting :3c
I loved this comeback too! One thing I just noticed is that in the MV, all the members are wearing full crochet outfits which also reinforces that human vs bot/robot theme (for those that don’t know, crochet items can only be made by human hands, not by a machine (unlike knitted clothes)) There’s no shortcuts in crochet- you have to place each individual stitch and it’s a real labour of love. I bet that styling was intentional to play into the commentary
i was also so worried when i saw the name of the song… but the way they did it really went the opposite direction and it looks so good too… long live true art !
Another interesting aspect of how the MV ties in everything: there's a lot of imagery pointing to the girls being somewhat illuded, deluded and/or bewitched into the idyllic environment. It creates a narrative that they were experiencing a "love" that was artificial, illusory and empty on the other side. I think it's a good way to illustrate how art evokes feelings, and while AI generated content may evoke something, the lack of feelings and intent from the other side make those feelings as fleeting as being in an illusion of a brainwashed love.
I really like how STAYC has tapped into the soullessness that comes with generative AI with this concept. To me, the song represents a lover that tells you all the right things, but you feel no connection with it because it's almost "too perfect". GPT is the perfect metaphor, and the artistic direction is amazing.
i was genuinely really impressed by this take on gpt and the side on this single release was really nice too! (I kinda hate that i enjoyed their single more than their full album😭)
Their full album isn't that bad but I feel like it's too rushed. Most songs have no bridges, lacking the typical song structure that we expect from STAYC to deliver.
The way I was hoping this would be the song to get them back on top since cheeky icy thang didn't but it doesn't seem like that will happen. LIKE WHY?! THIS IS MY FAV RELEASE FROM THEM YET!
I love the attention to communication being what makes a relationship what it is. I've been a stickler about this in writing for years, so seeing it be highlighted in a kpop song and MV is very satisfying.
I'm just happy that they are back, they has such unique soundfont and aesthethic... and then they released Teddy Bear. I was worried this song will also be generic because of the previous releases but thankfully between Cheeky Icy Thang and this we may be getting back the group I fell for during their debut.
I havent really been keeping up with Stayc, the stuff they were releasing wasn't hitting with me, but when I saw the thumbnail for gpt I was like "oh no girls no" but then I actually listened to it and I couldn't stop listening to it. I love the storyline and the song is so good GGs Stayc
this is what we need in the kpop industry right now. the meaning, concept, and lessons it will provide and endure to the society. i love STAYC so much and they 've been very consistent on spreading societal lessons through their music like stereotype. their songs have deep meanings to it and they always produce quality music. i just hope that many kpop fans will try to stan them
Anyone noticed that they never said "Stayc girls, is going down" bcz this song didn't have a positive message, it's about loving an ai who isn't able to love u back (ig?)
I'm sure someone already brought this up, but the "dot dot dot" reminds me of how AI chat bots will have elipses for a few moments before providing an answer. Like we wait in anticipation for an answer, but the love interest never responds.
STAYC is my ult group, so I’m always biased in support of them, but I’m always blown away by how genuine the members seem either by themselves or as a group with every comeback. They seem to have a great and honest friendship with each other that really adds to their unity as a team. I feel like they are one of the six-member girl groups that has defied the six-member curse, which is amazing and I hope stays true until they retire. This really gives them an air of true authenticity and even if their music is trendy, it never feels like their concepts or lyrics ever stoop to a point of “selling out” or “taking the easy way.” And even more respectably, they and their team are always constantly pushing deeper narratives and extensive meaning all while making a beautifully ear catching composition. Nothing is ever rushed, and while that is hard as someone who loves their music and wants more, I will gladly take quality over quantity. They release a handful of songs a year because that’s how passionate they and their team are about giving their body of work true meaning. As a non-Korean speaker, obviously what I always collect on first listen is the sound, but when you read the lyric translations, it adds a whole new depth to the music and to the group. I am always beyond impressed with everything they have to put out and how much they add to the redefinition of the typical stereotype (pun intended) of what it means to be a pop girl group. Not to mention, their music always manages to capture that true k-pop sound while still incorporating other musical elements that don’t distract but add and elevate. I am so glad that I stan what I believe to be one of if not the best girl group.
I'm such a proud swith with this comeback 🤧 regardless whether this does numbers or not, this is certainly one of my top favorite releases from them. I was apprehensive at first too, but their approach of AI made me really happy as a fan, and I really hope their team may continue in this direction setting positive messages that resonates with the youth like this
at first listen/watch i was obsessed/amazed, at my second watch i started crying, stayc touched me in ways few artists could and this is why i love them
i think the production team put in a lot of effort to come up with a non-cliché title for the song, especially since it was made a while back, but they hadn’t settled on a name. i said this bcs they even released the comeback schedule and tracklist for next jp comeback but not the title track. Now, we know the title track for the upcoming Japanese comeback will be the Japanese version of 'GPT.' The team is still creative in connecting 'GPT' with the theme of unrequited love.
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING LIKEY. i literally gasped. likey and gpt are my favorite kpop songs ever... you really reached inside my brain and put all of its contents in this video, i swear
i'm really surprised not one person in the comments mentioned their lyric from 1 thing from their previous cb ??? eng trans below: 'How to recognize the real thing from the start? I don't quite get it, honestly I'll feel it someday, but when? Please Even if it's GPT, na-na-na-na-na' this song( GPT) isn't the first time they have used 'GPT' to denote an emotionless lover. In 1 thing, GPT is used as a placeholder for the 'real thing'. the narrator deeply desires to experience true romantic love and is willing to do so even if their partner is essentially GPT ie. an AI not actually capable of feeling human emotion. the way i see it, 1 thing sets the stage for a cb with GPT. which of course, you have covered wonderfully in this video :)
I think they made a chatbot as part of the promo, which I’m not a huge fan of, but I do really like the way they use the idea of ChatGPT as a narrative device in the song! Kind of reminds me of the way IU’s “Blueming” or CheBul’s “Q&A” use texting as a narrative device :)
I saw that the song got released and I refused to listen to it. STAYC's recent releases weren't that impactful and felt pretty repetitive. I genuinely thought that using AI for their song was going to make it way worse. But the thumbnail had me wondering if it is really worth listening to it since it didn't look that "artificial". So I listened to it and musically it was calming and really charming (similar to Beautiful Monster). They seemed to explore more with this comeback since nowadays, artists are making more and more 'noise music' to boost the social media with repetitive and catchy-boring melodies. What intrigued me the most were the lyrics and the storyline in the MV. It somehow looked to me familiar (gave me So Bad vibes) and people were joking how only J wasn't affected by GPT. Just looking at how the song itself is a huge metaphor, with good Korean lyrics and that they are showing a different side of theirs just made me realise STAYC *is going up* in an industry that currently is facing a mental identity crisis. This song doesn't feel TikTok-y, it really feels like this is what K-Pop represents to the world. Not famous, not for everyone but people don't really know what they are missing. It has been a huge period since any song in the world in general has felt so in tune with today's society, while at the same time being a love song that sounds so STAYC. The girls proved me wrong in many ways since this MV is truly amazing and I hope people will recognise that K-Pop used to be diverse, cinematic and beautiful while provoking themes, feelings and concepts no one ever saw before. It felt like literature, like a book you recently discovered that might change you since it represents a part of your life you didn't know it existed before. Also, a fun fact is that this is a single and usually artists name the single after the song. But no, STAYC's single for GPT is called "...I" and I think it means that the lover finally responded and didn't feel robotic (in some sense, they're hoping). See? You can find meanings and interpretations everywhere. This is what K-Pop is to me.
your comparision of GPT to likey reminds me of a playlist i've made called ' social media motifs in kpop'. of course songs like TT and likey are on there, but something that i wanna link to GPT specificially is RESET by IVE. its kind of an inverse of GPT in a way with the chorus as: ( english translation) All night, your light text balloons floated by I'll burst them with a bang I'm bored now TT, TT, TT, TT Really going to sleep now It’s not me playing hard to get This is our last Even if I refresh, my feelings won't change Back to the time I didn’t know you I want to reset in GPT, comparing the love interest to an emotionless AI is a deliberate choice whereas the narrator in RESET utilises every form of modern communication available only to grow indifferent with a mild vengeance. goes to show how essentially the same base concept can branch out into so many different versions that remain relatable yet unique. pretty cool :)
i love seeing your analysis and videos especially of stayc!! i was wondering what you think of the so bad mv? in the mv reaction they say it has a storyline but I've never seen them or anyone speak about it,, i was wondering what you would think about it? again lovely video thank you so much 🩷
😞😞 *This* and Icy Checky Thing was the kpoppiest things we had in almost 2 years, and everyone hated.. every group rn just want to sound/look western to get some appeal in America, and whoever don't do that just flops.. at this point we should just accept that kpop died
I think the only reasonable AI use in k-pop (or k-pop adjacent if you will) that comes to mind is the AI generated images and short scenes used in XG's videos like in TGIF for instance. The look and feel of these AI images fits the theme and concept very well.
There is a lot of CGI, yes. But I‘m not referring to CGI in the tradition sense, as in VFX. I’m referring to the AI generated images and clips. These are generated with image generating GPTs like DALL-E, Midjourney etc.
@ From what I understand the very first image of the black/yellow scene at about 0:57 is AI generated. There are a few more IIRC. There is a reaction/analysis video b video editor Jordan Orme that goes into more detail.
i love xg’s music and their visual styling but to me and a lot of other people that’s not reasonable at all. it doesn’t matter if it fits the concept, a human could have made those images, but they didn’t want to hire an artist. and the fact that theyve credited people as “ai artists” before is not good. period. ai art is not art.
huh. this channel quite literally discusses music and mvs. you will live ur whole life thinking nothing is that serious and on your deathbed u will regret it.
this is one of the worst songs I have ever heard in kpop.. I never thought STAYC of all groups could release something so bad but then again.. it doesn't surprise me that everyone thinks its good.. this planet is now run by DEI NPC BOTS lol
This is such a reach 😭 why do yall always try to complicate things and create stuff. Gpt is about unrequited love and because STAYC members are the only one asking questions and showing interest while their crush isn't showing any not asking them questions just like chatgpt
well have u ever thought about maybe being able to make such 'reaches' is enjoyable? it can make lyrics more relatable or meaningful to a person. not only that, but lyrics can be interpreted in any way, even if it doesn't align with the original meaning
Help we're so opposite. The AI used for the high concept for RV's album was peak for me as a photographic designer. The execution and concept was so perfect for me. Meanwhile stuff like STAYC's GPT for me are kind of a step down in kpop as I feel we could be singing about other subjects and focus on a more music-wise quality product instead. STAYC has already suffered enough in that regard with their last previous full album. If they are so against artificial things, then why was their previous music so heavy on these methods with the heavy vocal editing? For me STAYC completely lost their sense of direction and I'm concerned instead :(
the heavy vocal edits were really common in 2nd gen such as the robotic rapping which BEP seem to like to do. i personally don’t lol also, idk if it’s just me but what you said lowkey makes no sense like stayc never said they’re against “artificial things”, they’re just alluding their love interest to acting like AI. they never used any sort of AI in the song afaik. btw not hating, just genuinely confused 😅
From a fan perspective I don't think stayc lost their direction, I personally see a lot of consistency throughout their releases although presented through different packagings. In my opinion they don't need to talk about other subjects (although they already have non romance tracks) bc they already solidified a fanbase that likes the sound and messages they put out, and when i look at the bigger picture of a gg of a society that is so highly focused on romance like korean society is, not only it makes sense that this is a recurrent topic, but also I think is great that they have songs like "give it 2 me" "nada" or "flexing on my ex" in their discography, that sets positive lessons for young girls specially about seeing themselves as precious and valuable etc, which also goes along with their "star to a young culture" concept perfectly well imo :)
@@twistedfantasyy I don't know how to properly explain it, but just going from the synthetic vocals on their last production to "we don't like synthetic dating" is just kind of hypocrite to me. I'm not saying it has to make sense for other people and I actually appreciate your concern for me about this btw! We're all good. I totally understand if you're not following what I'm getting at. It's just a vibe I got. That on top of the whole musical downfall of this group that I once ulted. It feels all so wrong :(
@@tessie4698 I'm a former fan. STAYC used to be my ults and I have been obsessed with them for years, but gradually lost me due to the lack of consistency in quality and vision. They went from a more mature (not saying nsfw, but just grown-person-sounding) vibe to almost kindergarten esque music. Now they're talking about all these weird niche things in their music. Their previous album also failed so hard for me in every single sense. I even cancelled my pre-order. It's basically the last nail in the coffin for someone like me, who is just a music enjoyer. I'll go back to them when the songs are a vibe again for me as a grown adult. There's something about the newfound neoteny stamp their vibes have gotten since Teddy bear that's giving me the ick.
@soomi I understand their sounds may not cater to you anymore, I still see a lot of consistency on the young love theme since debut tbh, and on top of that they often work with the same producers bringing something new and fresh and yet still true for them, the "mean to be" bside on this release bring that same old stayc vibe while keeping it interesting enough for me. And sure as they grow older they might show another facet of them that you may like more in the future, but I'm just not really fond of the whole narrative of their sound losing quality when they just might be "failing" to reach all the mainstream at times but there's still a public for it (not with poppy, teddy bear or bubble tho since those were some of their biggest hits) and I personally like both group of songs, the ones that fall under their cute umbrella or the ones that fall under their more mature one, it might not always be everyone's cup of tea but imo they suit either aesthetic very well, while still keeping cohesion on element sounds and "storyline" as a group etc. So we may not agree on that, as they are currently my ult gg but I still appreciate criticism when it's not presented ignorantly :)
i saw this on twitter: after they sing “i love you”, they sing “…” to illustrate how their crush never responded back to them. since the song is about unrequited love. stayc really stepped up for this comeback so im sad its not getting the attention it deserves

goes to show how essentially the same base concept can branch out into so many different versions that remain relatable yet unique. pretty cool :)
Great video! StayC doesn’t miss!
absolutely loved GPT it was so incredible and i love the concept
thank you for such a great video
I never really listened to STAYC before this comeback but now I want to check out their discography, I was so impressed with this concept!!!
Thank you! glad to see ppl won't just flop stayc. This concept was amazing
I remember liking this song, and the meaning behind it, it's pretty unique. I just need to listen to it again 😅
When they sing Dot, it actually means I love you. The dots are the letters. One dot for "i", four dots for "love", and three dots for "you".
this is ART💜
The AI works like a type of futuristic art, the images are some like your own dreams
The kpop its the right place to be
totally agree with this take!
STAYC is really the daughters of TWICE
It seems like it a lot?? as if they were the group that debuted after twice instead of itzy
top 5 kpop songs this year
ITS SUCH A GOOD SONG I LOVE ITTTTT ITS MY FAV SONG ATM
STREAM GPT!!
i love seeing your analysis and videos especially of stayc!! i was wondering what you think of the so bad mv? in the mv reaction they say it has a storyline but I've never seen them or anyone speak about it,, i was wondering what you would think about it? again lovely video thank you so much 🩷
gpt is such a fresh release after the disappointment that was cit, even tho i really like the album, gpt quickly became one of my favorite stayc songs
basically it's about loving someone who doesn't reciprocate so it falls as falling in love with a robot
😞😞 *This* and Icy Checky Thing was the kpoppiest things we had in almost 2 years, and everyone hated.. every group rn just want to sound/look western to get some appeal in America, and whoever don't do that just flops.. at this point we should just accept that kpop died
factssssss
❤❤❤
I think the only reasonable AI use in k-pop (or k-pop adjacent if you will) that comes to mind is the AI generated images and short scenes used in XG's videos like in TGIF for instance. The look and feel of these AI images fits the theme and concept very well.
xg isnt ai, its cgi usage
There is a lot of CGI, yes. But I‘m not referring to CGI in the tradition sense, as in VFX. I’m referring to the AI generated images and clips. These are generated with image generating GPTs like DALL-E, Midjourney etc.
where in tgif? i only know about grl gvng
That's how you do ít SEVENTEEN
The song is better than cheeky icy thin
can u make a video on babymonsters's new comeback? i would love to see what u think
Mid ass comeback with a boring concept, nothing else , nothing revolutionary
too bad that they dont ask for your opinion @@nisansalajayaweera9762
is GPT the Gen Z R.o.S.E Blue???
Rose Blue by Deukae ?? Masterpiece
GPT is a softer loving version and it's great
early
They finally made a good comeback after years ugh. Last time was beautiful monster everything after that was a huge flop
Do you respond?
pipe down lil bro, it's not that serious 💀
huh. this channel quite literally discusses music and mvs. you will live ur whole life thinking nothing is that serious and on your deathbed u will regret it.
you must be miserable
this is one of the worst songs I have ever heard in kpop.. I never thought STAYC of all groups could release something so bad
but then again.. it doesn't surprise me that everyone thinks its good.. this planet is now run by DEI NPC BOTS lol
For me STAYC completely lost their sense of direction and I'm concerned instead :(
the heavy vocal edits were really common in 2nd gen such as the robotic rapping which BEP seem to like to do. i personally don’t lol
also, idk if it’s just me but what you said lowkey makes no sense like stayc never said they’re against “artificial things”, they’re just alluding their love interest to acting like AI. they never used any sort of AI in the song afaik.
btw not hating, just genuinely confused 😅
