  • "Cavazione" Is the name in modern fencing, in the historical fencing was called in different ways by ancient masters.
In short: an action to release your sword from an opponent’s ligament, by means of a movement that allows the passage of your sword under the opposing sword, carried out in correct tempo.
Marozzo seems to describe the action during the first part of the First two-handed sword assault (Opera Nova - 1536. Lib.3, I°, I): it takes the name of "falaciata" and the sword after passing under the opposing sword enters with a thrust.
In the Codex Lew of XV century (Cod. I.6.4°.3) fogli 39r, 39v. exposes this: "When you come to him with the pre-fencing, then set your left foot forward and hold the Long Point against his face. If he then hews you from above or below the sword, and wants to strike that away or bind thereon, let the point sink underneath and stab to the other side, and do that against all hews, etc." (thanks to P. Tirelli for this source).
Pietro Monte in his opera "Exercitorum Atque Artis Militaris in tris libros Distincta" Milan 1509 (I, II books). exposes the same action with many weapons, from the pole arms to the two-handed sword.
This action is therefore found in many of historical fencing and these that I have exposed are only some!
Here a small video of a free sparring where I can use this action successfully.
