Basics Training - Renaissance Sword & Dagger
Exercises based on Marozzo and Manciolino, guided by the details set out very well by Di Grassi and Ghislero.
Tough, dangerous discipline, where Tempo Insieme is as effective as it is frighteningly delicate; every movement must be done to the best of its ability, every detail in its place.
Spending even half an hour a day training and taking care of details, especially in this delicate discipline, brings effective and robust results.
Accustoming the body and mind to small and seemingly simple movements is essential to then have a clear and lucid mind during fights, as the “subtle mind” is trained!
What a beautiful Sword & Dagger!

Renaissance sword & buckler - Analysis of 3 actions in free sparring
Переглядів 195Місяць тому
I hope to be able to make more videos like this, if time permits! The intent is to isolate, propose and analyze actions that I think are close to those set forth in Italian Renaissance treatises, in this case with a main focus on Achille Marozzo. There would be many other details to expound, such as posture and management of footwork, choice of tempo etc etc , but I would say that the main cons...

Renaissance Sword & Buckler Training Free Sparring session I am trying to increase the quality of the form, obviously without pushing 100%, because I want to get as high a quality as possible without pushing to the maximum. In this session I wasn't very fit, but you can't always be at your best, so it's a good thing to fight even when you want to be in bed! #achillemarozzo #schermastorica #mart...

Ambrogio, my training assistant! A simple, yet valuable, hanging branch that offers many training possibilities; strikes, parries, footwork, tempo and misura management. In short, a great tool to perform part of one's solo training! Must try guys, I recommend it! #historicalfencing #schermastorica

The ancient masters in the art of weapons of the Italian Renaissance expose the importance in the single sword of the "fist turns" transitions that are necessary to remain well protected behind the sword compared to the opponent. To make these transitions that end up in the guards robust and precise, it is necessary to repeatedly train even the shortest and simplest movements - the sword has a ...

This is my Art! Has its roots in history, and our goal is to extrapolate its values and bring them back to life with the gestures that the ancient Masters have left to posterity through their treatises. During the event HEMAC DIJON 2023 a small video of sword and plate sparring against Reto from Switzerland. I found many excellent historical fencers, very tied to the sources and with the will to fight cleanly and Reto is certainly the fencer I often compared with during the event, I really appreciated fight with him. A special mention goes to the builder of the Targa I use in the video, M° Ped...

I’m researching sword and dagger fighting for a novel, and I’m trying to better understand how people practice, so this video is awesome for me. Is it possible to put in some links to get more info in your little word slides where you’re telling us what you’re trying to do? It would be so great to be able to see more about what each of those things you’re trying to accomplish are. You gave us the reference texts at the end, but I wonder if there are videos that actually document the various moves. If you could make videos in which you show us what the moves are individually, that would also be so awesome. Really liked your footwork video and would have loved to know more about the steps and how people traditionally practice them. Thanks for sharing these. They’re very cool!
Thank you for the compliment If you need any help write me an email
Lovely

Very awesome! Was looking for proper Partisan techniques for a story I'm writing and this is perfect. Great work!
@@shizukaryujoukai2465 many thanks
Io direi terza parte del secondo assalto.
What masters and/or treatises are you pulling from to fight? I cannot get enough of Manciolino (with a spattering of Marozzo), and the entry into play before the exchange at 3:20 looks similar. That, and the single-double-triple feints. All this to say that I really enjoy it, if that wasn't obvious.
@@HungryMungry The Italian tradition is really very united, except for a few details or attitudes. The study I mainly apply is from Marozzo. I know Manciolino and the Anonymus Classesnse, they definitely influence it. Thank you for the compliments
Ahh il buon vecchio Achille Merenda (dice mio figlio minore..)
@@MarcoArezzo76 hahaha grande!
Grazie e buon lavoro
@@moreno_dei_ricci A voi!
Bellissimo
Oi Moreno, invece i guanti? Che tipo usate per la sidesword? ❤
@@Bermuda-e7f di tutto
Great bout! Btw, which sidesword are you using?
Thank you! My swords are a Frankenstein Some guards are Danelli and Malleus, some blades are remade by craftsmen
@@moreno_dei_ricci now I need a review even more XD

I was just doing this myself a few weeks ago! I also found it good to practice passing by parrying the stick and pushing up while walking past, keeping it from hitting me as I passed below. Very fun drill
scherma bellissima!
Why cannot someone in HEMA just reconstruct the school of one of the masters in the same fashion that some Japanese ryuhas exists? TSKSR (tenshi shoden katori shinto ryu) for example is a system that progressively begins with the sword but then moves on to spear and halberd. But also covers the use of daggers and has a secret knowledge. What we in the west would call esoteric teachings. Cesare Borgia one of the brightes strategist during the renaissance was known to consult astrology before his campaigns. That's very similar to the secret knowledge of TSKSR.
great stuff. Love showing both side, and the controlled, powerful movements. Much easier to track and learn from.
Amazing. BTW what gloves were you using?
I must add: I've never seen a sword and buckler tournament so clean
Very nice!
Bel video!
Addirittura! Grazie Fede
Video breve ma molto bello, posso domandarti chi è il produttore della replica che stai utilizzando?
Ti ringrazio Troll Forge
E' una grande verità!
So very good!
Thanks
gracefull
Absolutely beautiful.
Wish this had a few more cuts. Lovely Storta tho
Idk how far you've come since this post, but when cutting your edge alignment needs work. Also, I believe "Go Rin No Sho" to be the best book on strategy and learning in general. Though a youtuber demonstrating how to properly throw cuts with a two handed grip is what fixed my edge alignment. Some practicioner of the samurai sword, easy vid to find, I believe.
Beautiful work otherwise
Great use of the stab. Something about "The middle attitude..." - Miyamoto Musashi
Magnífico
the 2 handed winged spear/ boar spear can also be used in such a way
Hand forward guards, interesting
Those partisans are stunning, where did you get them?
Damn, those beautiful thrusts.....
Many thanks 🙂
With Morenos videos I always tell my students to just watch his feet. Everything else will flow from there, but the Art starts with the feet, and he his the perfect example of this. When they know more, I tell them to look for his heart and mind. And then it begins for them.
I am simply humbled by these words and said by a brother like you is even more important! thank you so much and I hope to meet your students soon
Una consulta , le escribo desde Perú , ¿Quisiera saber que lasgo tiene el asta?
Please, in english
I really like how you spar with the sword and targa :)
Super thanks
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL WHEN YOU FENCE
I am big fan of the precision with which you delivered not only the hand cut, but also followup buckler beat <3
Too kind Many thanks!
It was very informative to see spear drills against another spear. It’s alway hard to understand how it works with a single spear.
cool,dude
Beautiful work Moreno!
Very good work.
Similar to Chinese spear techniques
Absolutely gorgeous! You bring out the essence of the Bolognese Arts so beautifully!
Thanks Nicolas
would you guys be willing to do interperetations and applications for sword and buckler?
finally someone covering marozzos partizan....
Beautiful demo, bravissimo. Very interesting to see the hight guard parry riposte.
This is Art. Well done Moreno
Thanks my friend! always appreciated by you!
Flowing clouds and flowing water
1.33 - We fight to honor God! Bolognese S&B - Rhythm's gonna get you 🎵🎶 ioi All joking aside. Looks VERY effective especially with feints and deceptive flourishes, I can see how a lighter side sword would be most applicable here.
you are famous in Chinese HEMA groups, exspecially in bolognese fencers, your videos get more than 70k view in china, but hope you can upload more, because it's too hard to find your sparring videos🤣
@moreno yes share more, excellent fencing.
Is there more Sword&buckler video? fantastic ,i hope you can upload more!
I'm confused why you footwork is so high, close together and irregular. Would you please explain?
read the masters, especially the anonymous Classense 345 and 346 and you will find your answers
@@moreno_dei_ricci thank you. Unfortunately, that may take some time as I'm new to HEMA. I appreciate your help.
