I always tell people you can only do so much trying to think and react to everything. You can't consciously do that without it affecting your play, unless you play extremely slow and defensive. My best plays were when I'm not even fully conscious of what I'm doing. I just "feel" it.
That sort of stuff happens in sports too. Just that it's called "Being in the zone" there. Training is when you want to think, but ideally you want to switch your brain off while performing cuz THINKING slows you down. In a way. Like a delay you add to your reaction.
Practice how you play and play how you practice. The same way you do a combo without thinking of the inputs is the same way you should autopilot. There is no real way to show someone how to autopilot
I think this is one of the most counterintuitive and overlooked things for any skill in life ever! Great stuff!! Also, missed a chance to make an Ultra Instinct reference, it's no wonder such a strong form is all about automaticity!! :D
I've actually seen most melee players talk about how important having a good auto pilot is but this is the first ult player. Cus at the end of the day you can't expect to play your A game every match, you just gotta make the level your B and C game better.
@@rekt_yer_nan_darding_5788 Exactly, I agree!! I think finding a balance of how much mental energy to use per match and how hard you concentrate (as too much can also be a bad thing like too little) are also very interesting similar topics :D
I completely agree! Training your autopilot conditions you and liberates more things on your mind that you can focus on other things like focusing on the opponent.
If you want an idea, I'd love to know how you think about and improve positioning! Do you theorycraft it, run drills? Or is it just about studying VODs and practicing in games?
You are probably trying to improve too much at once. I think dabuz says this but just pick one to three things to work on each training and then you do them subconsciously.
Nice video dabuz!! one video topic i would recommend is how to properly edge guard. I believe that is a fundamental aspect of smash a lot of players skip over.
I agree and I recommend you Glutonny's analysis of Zackray edgeguard. I think It's called "L'edgeguard la plus clean du monde" (The cleanest edgeguard in the world). Despite Abadango being really good It looks like he is bad compared to Zackray at edgeguarding. Not sure if the video has subtitles tho
Auto pilot is another way of saying habits. And habits are repetitive behaviors you do over and over again with less amount of effort. So if you practice a regime over and over again, you can just play the game with your eyes closed. It’d be so easy. But if someone figures out your auto pilot, you’ll be stuck with those habits and end up losing. You’ll do it no matter how aware you are, because habits affect the brain’s functioning. Habits can force you to do things no matter how much you tell yourself no, if your autopilot is strong enough. Auto pilot are habits at the end of the day. The stronger the habit is, the harder it’ll be for you to change it when you need it the most
As a Meta Knight main I love this video, I think I think to much when I try to ladder, I should just focus on playing good and get them to the perfect percent. MK b meta
@@DabuzSSB Right, so your saying to train your autopilot and thats the best thing so then your using max brain power without "thinking as hard"? Thanks for replying though love the content :)
If you watch top smash players they have a set of specific neutral mixups that they fall back on. Even if an opponent is aware of these they can be hard or unrewarding to punish, so even if they play bad for their standards they can make a top 8.
I thought for one terrifying second I wouldn't see the end of the fight.

There is a great video on this concept by Core-A gaming called playing fast and slow
Most people just autopilot their conception of Their Own auto-piloting. Great job of explaining and break things down

Maybe make a follow up vid for training your autopilot? I’d love to see you discuss about it in depth

Thanks you so much, this question has been over my head for too long
This sounds straight out of the Inner Game of Tennis
You are now manually breathing. Don't mess up!

Sadly positioning and neautral is hard to impossible to learn online.
Thats a good point, it’s happened to me where I play as my main and focus to hard and lose, but do very well with characters I play casually.

It's like initial D the Fujiwara zone bro had great autopilot
Please keep making videos like this. I love them :)
You letting us see the ending made it soo much better. amazing video I always wondered about auto-pilot 🤔
Really interesting take. Nice vid!
Amazing videos. Very insightful
Great video, short and sweet

Fitting that brain age is playing
Agreed, it fits so well here.
Thankyou

You're amazing for waiting until the match finished.
Auto-piloting by a skilled player is basically set-play
love this video style
I hate my audio pilot rolling to pushed
How would I improve at feeling out the opponent?
Great video!
I don't know if I'd call that state autopilot or the zone
damn that´s really good advice thanks

i always thought you dont want to get into autopilot cuz then your paterns will be readable im confused
That's having bad habits which goes back to having a bad autopilot. You can have patterns which are good
oddly enough, you can train your autopilot to be more unpredictable
