This is best, most useful video to date. I realize you have been building up to this, helping to bring us along to understand the concept but this really helps me hone in on colors because my palettes are from the eighties when I had my colors done and I don’t find my limited colors so easily. Having the tools to sort out what hue is good while shopping is super useful. Keep the awesome classes coming. 😊
Bonjour de Montréal. Merci à vous deux pour toutes ces informations. Vous êtes tellement intéressantes. Je pourrais regarder vos vidéos toute la journée ❤
It’s so helpful to see the difference between clear and cool. On another note, blue plus grey seems to make it look strangely warm to my eye. It’s always puzzled me as to what I’m looking at.
I snuck a snap on my phone because I am not on Facebook. This information is so helpful. The way you are teaching us is so empowering. Thank you so much ladies🌸
What a helpful video in just understanding colors! The running joke between my husband and I is that I don’t really “see” colors correctly. We always argue over whether something is blue or purple, pink or red and this helped me see the varying differences and bow can now apply it to my wardrobe.
Yep. Warm/cool/clear/soft are comparative labels since every color can be any of these. It's a spectrum more than a hard line. Having swatches is really helpful since it gives you something to compare to. Looking at the printed swatches in the CMB book can be confusing since the subtlety is difficult to duplicate in print & it can seem like several of the palettes contain the same colors. But they are in fact different shades, tints or tones of the same color making them warmer or cooler or softer etc compared to the base color (blue, red, green or whatever) I almost wish I had the swatches for Warm & Soft Autumn too since they look so similar to Warm Spring in the book. :D Color is complex & I understand why it gets over simplified as "this half of the color wheel is warm, this half is cool." But it's a little misleading...
This video is a tremendous help. I am cool, light (white hair) and not clear but not necessarily soft. Some of those colors drain me. Can't wait for the 16 palette . Thank you!!
I like your content so much, but the best thing is having you two as teachers. The way you explain the topics is always very professional and easy to follow. Thank you, also now liked and subscribed ❤🙌🏼❤
? So in the 6 dominate characteristics I believe that I’m Deep, Cool and Clear but I’m having trouble deciding how you determine which is THE predominant characteristic for example Deep or Cool, Deep or Clear. My eyes are a dark olive hazel with some amber and gold, I have dark brown hair and brows(no gold) and fair olive skin. I believe I’m a winter that can borrow some colors from Autumn because of my eyes and skin tone.
If you can borrow colors from autumn, then you're probably a deep winter. Sister season is deep autumn. (12 season system, palettes are readily available online)
I learned the same thing, however going from brunette to gray-ish is a very "dominant" shift for me (soft summer). While it may not change the color of the clothing, my challenge now is figuring out how to figure out the most appealing color of gray to color/tone my hair. It's looking sort of yellowish which doesn't feel right. I would love a whole video on the shades of gray hair that work for the different palettes....especially SUMMER. (I have a stylist do my cut/colors but have not found one that knows much about color systems.)
I loved this video. You made it so visual and easy to understand. It gave me a real light bulb moment. I finally understand the difference between the 6 Dominant Characteristics. I was stuck between Cool and Soft. I can finally say I'm Light, Cool and Soft. But prodominately Soft. Thank you so much for your awesome videos. They are so helpful.
What if I'm straight up neutral, but I'm only drawn to deep or soft(muted) shades? I hate primary colors. I'm Irish/English and pale fair, with dark amber blonde hair. I just know what looks good and what I like. Black, (greens, browns, deep spiced reds) Earth tones, and (aquamarine) Beachy shades. I hate bright colors and despise yellow. I look terrible in white.. But I like and wear gold or silver very well. I can wear certain bold or clear shades, but don't feel particularly comfortable wearing them. I just prefer muted tones and black. This is all very confusing.
I’m also very interested in brown! I would love to wear brown eyeshadow to work, but I’m a bright winter, and I always look shadowy or like I got beat up if I try to wear brown makeup.
I am guessing that if you want to REALLY fine tune it, you could do more than one change. For instance if you’re soft and warm, you could add gray AND gold???
exactly, though I always heard to add a drop of orange to naturally cool colors, like blue and purple, to make them warm, then mute them out if you're soft
Yeah, muted of soft colors aren't always made with grey which makes them cooler. They can be made by adding the complementary color(red & green, blue & orange, violet & yellow) or simply adding a brown (which is a muted shade of red, orange or yellow)
Please can you do a video on blush recommendations and brands that would have have these shades 😊 would really help. I am a neutral leaning cool and find it quite hard 😅
Great video! I'm still unsure how to determine my dominant characteristic...if I'm definitely not Deep, and definitely not Clear, not overly Light, can I be both Soft and Warm?
I adore your channel! Thank you! I like that you show so many pictures, it really helps! I got that i’m deep, warm and soft, but I can’t decide which is my dominant deep or warm?)))
But how do you choose which characteristic you focus on when choosing the right color ? If im light, warm and clear what color do i choose ? A light one or a warm or clear one ? Im confused sorry 🫣
I have no doubts about being a winter in the 4 colour system. In your system I have no doubts about the clear and cool- in my younger days I was very dark brown in my hair and I have very dark brown almost black eyes. Being scandinavian I'm very light in my skin color , at least very fair. Buying foundation from l'oreal I use the color 0,5 -2. My hair has turned grey due to age and life. I'm currently in chemotherapy and have lost all my white hairs only the dark grey hairs are left on my head. What will be my last dominant light og deep?? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. Looking forward to learn even more from you. Best regards Hanne from Denmark
As an artist, "straight out of the paint tube" isn't a great analogy, as many paints are premixed, may start off very dark or be earthy & muted. Also, it's not as simplistic as "add black", "add blue" etc. Can result in very different colour shifts.
its not correct that you can make red cooler by adding blue. red is a mix of magenta (base color) and yellow. so you make it warmer by adding yellow, thats correct. to get it cooler you have to go for magenta without yellow. wtf
Purple & yellow are complementary colors. Mixing complements always reduces the saturation but doesn't neccessarily effect the temperature in the same way as adding grey.
@yensid4294 mix paint colors and see what happens. Mixing all primaries together gives you 💩 neutrals either brown or gray. Violet has red and blue already and yellow gives you the third. A drop or two of yellow "mutes" the color (similar to toning or adding gray). A ton of yellow will make a taupish gray. You can't add gold to purple to make spring purples. It either gives you soft summer purples or summer neutrals. It never gives you warm, vibrant violets. Adding red does.

We’re glad you’ve been enjoying our videos!
Pictures are getting implanted, terms are being memorised. Brilliant, ladies, brilliant. Thank you ❤ (for me it should prob be a soft red!)

Wonderful! Please do yellow. So curious how cool would wear yellow.
Amazing work!
Thank you for all the charts/visual aide. ❤

I love it ❤❤❤ its really helping me a lot to understand each colour. I would like to see the browns and yellows 🎉
Ditto!
Sarah you look pink/warm to me!
Sarah is warm but is also soft. She's a soft autumn in the 12 season system.

Just found your channel today and I love it!!!! Lucinda, you look gorgeous in this video ❤😊
I was taught you don’t “ shift”different seasons depending on hair change. Also dyed hair doesn’t change our analysis. It’s based on skin no?
Yes that what I was taught too- that's why at the start of an analysis they pull back your hair to focus on your skin tone
That is what I understand from the videos I’ve seen and books-articles I’ve read.
Yes! Ideally your analysis is done without makeup

But if your hair changes naturally (like when you age) I think your pallete can change a bit…
can u do that with all the colors?
Thank you both for sharing your wealth of knowledge about colours. Appreciate it!!😊
Thanks ❤
Im loving your channel!! Thank you, this video was extremely helpful for me !

Yeah, muted of soft colors aren't always made with grey which makes them cooler. They can be made by adding the complementary color(red & green, blue & orange, violet & yellow) or simply adding a brown (which is a muted shade of red, orange or yellow)
This visual certainly cemented it for me, as you rightly said, thank you.
So glad this helped!

Great video!

yes
Soft & warm = probably soft autumn in the 12 season system.
Loving this series! Would love to see time stamps 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Light, warm, clear = spring. You may be a warm spring or bright spring in the 12 season system.
this is so helpful, thank you

Glad you enjoyed it!
This process of focusing on the undertone that makes up the colors is priceless❤
If the pure clear colors are best on someone, what are they considered to be?
Winter (cool) or spring (warm)
Thx Ladies ❤❤❤

I wear all those colors. I know nothin😂I just can't get it.
Ma non esiste il blu caldo?
E poi, gold sarebbe oro?
Il colore puro bon è light
Cool è con l'aggiunta di viola?
Is you season a (True Summer)???????
Lucinda is a soft summer.
That bright turqouise does NOT look
warm to me. It looks freezing cold.
I think this is great but you slightly over complicate it.

You add red to purple not gold. Adding gold is the same as adding gray.

Gold is the only color I don't wear.
