The term "psy" may actually come from the Greek letter psi (ψ), and isn't necessarily just a derivative of "psychotronic/psychotropic" (although that makes sense too). This makes more sense in Russian, where "psy" is written as "пси" - psi. This is also how it was written in the English version of SoC; only in CS and CoP it was changed to "psy". I think that "psi" makes more sense when it comes to the term "psi-emission" - as you mentioned, sometimes the word "radiation" is used in the game for this phenomenon, which actually is due to the fact that in Russian the word for emission - излучение - is also used to refer to radiation. So in Russian, psi-emission is more like "psi-radiation", and thus can be compared to other types of radiation, also represented by Greek letters (alpha, beta, gamma). It's also worth mentioning that in SoC design documents there is a mention of a measurement unit for psi-emission power, written as "psiA". It was planned that this information would be included in the documents from X-16, but it was scrapped.

My head cannon is that the monolith is and was not an illusion, it’s a very real thing, a powerful psy device that processes the orders of the C-consciousness and transmitted it to the monolith soldiers. Let’s say a AI powers psy device, and it does what AIs do, try to execute orders given to it, but with the C-consciousness gone there is no higher command and so it does what it was told to do, protect the zone from outside influence. With that there could still be a possible return in full force of the monolith faction, a single squad managing to infiltrate the brain schorcher and modifying it to be more then just a wall would be enough to fry everyones brains in the center regions

Electric powers and psy-emmissions are definitely connected to eachother, and could explain the thunder and lightning seen during emissions, as well as the electrical field around poltergeists.

Another great and well-prepared material, my friend, which was a pleasure to listen to! It's a pity that in the games we don't see the consequences of the First Emission, during which not only anomalous power was released, but also psionic emissions, the effect of a local disruption of the noosphere. What I mean here are the zombified scientists, workers, guards, soldiers and all other people involved in activities in the Zone before 2006 roaming around factories and laboratories. Before the first Emission, the hidden activities of the Yantar Factory, Jupiter, laboratories, and the Pripyat-1 facility must have involved a lot of equipment and personnel, who were surprised on the night of April 12, so anyone who was outside the buildings or basements must have fallen victim to the destructive psi waves. Various abandoned vehicles would also be an interesting addition, such as prisoner trucks transporting convicts intended for experiments, because patrol vehicles of the army guarding secret facilities and tankers that probably transported chemicals necessary for the experiments are visible in all three games.

I think Psi-Energy is a form of Electromagnetic wave. I'm not sure if this is scientifically accurate or proven but in real life I heard things like transmission towers and power pylons can emit certain frequencies capable of mildly affecting humans. Causing mildly discomfort or headaches when near them but it depends on the frequency strength. I believe this might be the reason Psi fields are usually found near sources of electricity alongside electric anomalies.

Unless I missed something, psychosomatic effects can explain how a psychotronic weapon could effect the body. Psychosomatic refers to the relationship between the mind and the body and how the mind can effect the body (to put it simply). It follows that a psychotronic device could in theory cause the mind to change the body if it effects the mind properly. Afterall the brain controls much of how the body develops. (remember 'psycho' just means 'mind' and 'tronic' simply means 'relating to electronics', so psychotronic simply means electronics that effect the mind.)

You could do a video investigating Scar's strange abilities if there is any info available. How and why is he able to survive strong emissions and other extreme environments? Is he some sort of chosen one or did he have a past experience that made him resistant? Is it genetic? Does his scar have anything to do with it (the Scar anomaly in CoP is a psychotropic anomaly, just a thought lol)? Is he the only one with this ability? Furthermore, I find it strange that Lebedev tells Scar that he will die if he doesn't stop the emissions because it is destroying his nervous system. If taking cover is a viable option for other stalkers, why can't Scar just do the same? Do emissions still damage his nervous system even if he is sheltered?
Actually, in unpatched version of SoC, when Brain Scorcher's phantoms collide with player character, they decrease psychic health, depending on difficulty. An I guess in patched version this works as well.
2:53 I always though that this blue bar is the stamina (because of the lugs icon) and is always full (even in the stamina in HUD was depleted) because of a bug. I play this game 10+ years and I often find new things!
I like your content man, been here long enough before thousand others. Videos like these, especially when polished, bring more attention to stalker. Which before the announcement of stalker 2, literally survived by having a cult behind it worshipping the thing and making mods to this very day.
@@anomalousdugout9557 I suggest you add more "character" to your voice or audio, in this case try to make cleaner audio that is clear and without noise, there are cheap mics available that can help. Also your accent makes you stand out from other content creators with the same topics, so you dont really need to improve a lot on your english pronounciation, just make it a bit more clear and understandable, its a part of why I like your vids. You can also delve deeper into more obscure stalker stuff or remake your old videos when you get better equipment. Theres also no need to focus on vanilla stalker specifically, maybe some stories from quests in big mod packs?
STALKER really has the most unique lore and has the best atmosphere of all games. - that comes from someone who plays videos games since the early 90s ;-)
“Psi” is almost certainly short for *Psionic* Which in science fiction specifically, is traditionally any kind of technology involved with psychotropics, which includes the psychotronics you mentioned. However the definition is also very often stretched to also include the biological psychic powers themselves. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s case: Psionic Emitters, Psionic Protectors, and Controllers/Burers/Pseudodogs/Poltergeists with Psionic Powers. Telekinesis, Telepathy, Invisibility, Illusions, and Forcefields/Blasts (of various elements created by manipulating the atmosphere), are all Psionic Powers. I believe that the Poltergeists (and perhaps Bloodsuckers) were the most state of the art attempt at “Psionika-Komandos”. In the Lab-X18 encounter, one of the mutant-baby pods is knocked over, and empty. I theorize that the Pyrogeist that Strelok battles *is* this missing “baby”. I believe that Controllers and Burers are more or less just an inferior mutation that happens when a subject isn’t mutated far enough to lose their human form like the Poltergeist. Which is why they’re found more often in the wild. Perhaps Poltergeists are more likely to be created when the subject is given a controlled mutation from a young age, maybe even before birth. (Like the hypothetical Pyro-Baby) Whereas the others are just a normal human that has had its previously minimal Psionic biology (connected to the noosphere) forcefully overstimulated with less surgical application of Psionic therapy. This would explain some things like the Bloodsucker Shrine. Along with the verbal COP Controller, which might suggest that some mutants can in fact work alongside the Monolith or other C-Con agents, even though we don’t see them. Rare examples of humans getting along with the Zone and it’s Mutants has been shown, so it’s very plausible that this avenue is being taken advantage of by the C-Con. Why do Marked Ones not have X-Men powers? Perhaps the perfect balance of mutation and brainwashing hasn’t been engineered yet. Or perhaps it isn’t possible. We’ll have to see in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: 2!
Joking aside the Zone was created by brainwaves. If you think (or delude yourself)hard enough those brainwaves can be countered by brainwaves. The reason why survivors of emissions also adapt to them is also...the placebo-effect. As a somewhat new stalker fan love these lore videos I actually put videos like these in the background while playing stalker especially playing the new console port of stalker SOC on xbox planning on getting clear sky and the last game they finally brought the stalker trilogy to consoles PlayStation and xbox respectively ive also dabbled in the pc games too
Agreed I'd like to think psi-emission are projected/broadcasted brain waves along medium of radiation or electromag that scramble other's brain amid other effects. Thoughts are brainwaves witch in turn are electrical signals in the brain ie energy waves. Maybe something tapping into noosphere in limited/focused amounts. Also the true Pripyat horror are those wall illustrations always making me jump despite playing CoP many times
To me, Psi and psychic were always separate. Psi does help manipulate psyche like Magic with fire, but tech manipulating psychotropics were always separate. Also knowing the word helps with conversation, thanks for the lore!

Just imagine: psy element is secretly a projection on ones mind but with enough energy and, if controlled, with enough skill of the one that controls the psy-field, the image and feelings that are experienced become real to some degree. Like here you are seeing the emission represented as a firestorm, brain's fried to a crisp metaphorically. You use an artifact and it actually helps your body. Or if you are a greedy Strelok, you see the stuff around you turning into gold, which is really heavy, and some golden bolts just can't hold the roof and it collapses on you, the no-roof part happened because of a non-perfect psy projection, possibly due to instable and damaged yet somewhat functioning noosphere
Hello Mr. Dugout i have a question, back to the noosphere, why do the c-con decided to change human emotion especially one those of anger, fear, sadness and the related, have they thought of the consequences of those? I believe these emotion can help in a certain way, but what are their thoughts considering the removal or manipulation of the noosphere to do such an action?
@@anomalousdugout9557 The reason I feel it is possible is because the description says it is “probably” the source of the emissions. Controllers are very intelligent and rarely attack entire groups of stalkers at once. I think there are two possibilities, either the controller noticed the psi emissions coming from the artifact and assumed the stalker group would already be weakened, or used the artifact either as a decoy or somehow imbued it with psi emissions.
Dang! just as I start to think I know enough about the zone, anomalous breaks my illusion. Every other game pales in comparison to stalker. Regarding psy emission, I think its actually an active-rift in the noosphere around the area in which stalkers get affected. When the noosphere is breached by some sort of device (which has the code to generate certain kind of EM waves), sentient living beings start to experience overwhelming thoughts and emotions, they are suddenly exposed to the collective consciousness of the world. Certainly its a lot of information and a single brain cannot process that amount. You mentioned that the large machine-augmented (cybernetically enhanced) brain in X-16 is used to create psy-emission. But it can also be a possibility that its a prototype brain designed to survive the rift and not crumble because of the tremendous amount of signals and information from the live noosphere. Or probably that brain is the key to controlling the rifts in the noosphere around lake Yantar. The emissions on the other hand is even more surprising to me because of its unexplained source. Its said to be coming from north (CNPP). But we are not given any hint of its origin or the physical device is never mentioned or talked about (generators maybe), I'm sure that device is somewhere hidden in CNPP buildings and the scientists from the common consciousness were controlling that until SHOC's cannon. I have a suggestion for next video: Foods and drinks in the zone, I'm really curios about the supply!

Actually, in unpatched version of SoC, when Brain Scorcher's phantoms collide with player character, they decrease psychic health, depending on difficulty. An I guess in patched version this works as well.

I always though that this blue bar is the stamina (because of the lugs icon) and is always full (even in the stamina in HUD was depleted) because of a bug.

@@anomalousdugout9557 I suggest you add more "character" to your voice or audio, in this case try to make cleaner audio that is clear and without noise, there are cheap mics available that can help. Also your accent makes you stand out from other content creators with the same topics, so you dont really need to improve a lot on your english pronounciation, just make it a bit more clear and understandable, its a part of why I like your vids.
You can also delve deeper into more obscure stalker stuff or remake your old videos when you get better equipment. Theres also no need to focus on vanilla stalker specifically, maybe some stories from quests in big mod packs?
I watch your videos since pretty much the beginning and hope that with Stalker 2 your channel will grow till the play button.
STALKER really has the most unique lore and has the best atmosphere of all games.

“Psi” is almost certainly short for *Psionic*
Which in science fiction specifically, is traditionally any kind of technology involved with psychotropics, which includes the psychotronics you mentioned. However the definition is also very often stretched to also include the biological psychic powers themselves.
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s case: Psionic Emitters, Psionic Protectors, and Controllers/Burers/Pseudodogs/Poltergeists with Psionic Powers.
Telekinesis, Telepathy, Invisibility, Illusions, and Forcefields/Blasts (of various elements created by manipulating the atmosphere), are all Psionic Powers.
I believe that the Poltergeists (and perhaps Bloodsuckers) were the most state of the art attempt at “Psionika-Komandos”.
In the Lab-X18 encounter, one of the mutant-baby pods is knocked over, and empty. I theorize that the Pyrogeist that Strelok battles *is* this missing “baby”.
I believe that Controllers and Burers are more or less just an inferior mutation that happens when a subject isn’t mutated far enough to lose their human form like the Poltergeist. Which is why they’re found more often in the wild.
Perhaps Poltergeists are more likely to be created when the subject is given a controlled mutation from a young age, maybe even before birth. (Like the hypothetical Pyro-Baby) Whereas the others are just a normal human that has had its previously minimal Psionic biology (connected to the noosphere) forcefully overstimulated with less surgical application of Psionic therapy.
This would explain some things like the Bloodsucker Shrine. Along with the verbal COP Controller, which might suggest that some mutants can in fact work alongside the Monolith or other C-Con agents, even though we don’t see them.
Rare examples of humans getting along with the Zone and it’s Mutants has been shown, so it’s very plausible that this avenue is being taken advantage of by the C-Con.
Why do Marked Ones not have X-Men powers? Perhaps the perfect balance of mutation and brainwashing hasn’t been engineered yet. Or perhaps it isn’t possible. We’ll have to see in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: 2!

You could have used the PSY-Health from OGSR for footage as symbolic representation of it. Like ya did with using Artifacts as weapons in one of your other videos. it sounded like it was actually working like it was intended in the original version of the game

As a somewhat new stalker fan love these lore videos I actually put videos like these in the background while playing stalker especially playing the new console port of stalker SOC on xbox planning on getting clear sky and the last game they finally brought the stalker trilogy to consoles PlayStation and xbox respectively ive also dabbled in the pc games too

Agreed I'd like to think psi-emission are projected/broadcasted brain waves along medium of radiation or electromag that scramble other's brain amid other effects. Thoughts are brainwaves witch in turn are electrical signals in the brain ie energy waves. Maybe something tapping into noosphere in limited/focused amounts. Also the true Pripyat horror are those wall illustrations always making me jump despite playing CoP many times

To me, Psi and psychic were always separate. Psi does help manipulate psyche like Magic with fire, but tech manipulating psychotropics were always separate.

Just imagine: psy element is secretly a projection on ones mind but with enough energy and, if controlled, with enough skill of the one that controls the psy-field, the image and feelings that are experienced become real to some degree. Like here you are seeing the emission represented as a firestorm, brain's fried to a crisp metaphorically. You use an artifact and it actually helps your body. Or if you are a greedy Strelok, you see the stuff around you turning into gold, which is really heavy, and some golden bolts just can't hold the roof and it collapses on you, the no-roof part happened because of a non-perfect psy projection, possibly due to instable and damaged yet somewhat functioning noosphere

Hello Mr. Dugout i have a question, back to the noosphere, why do the c-con decided to change human emotion especially one those of anger, fear, sadness and the related, have they thought of the consequences of those? I believe these emotion can help in a certain way, but what are their thoughts considering the removal or manipulation of the noosphere to do such an action?
I always wonder if there was error that when having encounter with Controller in X-16 you get tip for not going "overweight" with gear in backpack
I believe it is possible that the controller was the source of the psi emissions instead of the altered insulator, but obviously cannot be sure
It's possible, but the field instantly goes down when the insulator is picked up so who knows.
@@anomalousdugout9557 The reason I feel it is possible is because the description says it is “probably” the source of the emissions. Controllers are very intelligent and rarely attack entire groups of stalkers at once. I think there are two possibilities, either the controller noticed the psi emissions coming from the artifact and assumed the stalker group would already be weakened, or used the artifact either as a decoy or somehow imbued it with psi emissions.

Dang! just as I start to think I know enough about the zone, anomalous breaks my illusion. Every other game pales in comparison to stalker. Regarding psy emission, I think its actually an active-rift in the noosphere around the area in which stalkers get affected. When the noosphere is breached by some sort of device (which has the code to generate certain kind of EM waves), sentient living beings start to experience overwhelming thoughts and emotions, they are suddenly exposed to the collective consciousness of the world. Certainly its a lot of information and a single brain cannot process that amount. You mentioned that the large machine-augmented (cybernetically enhanced) brain in X-16 is used to create psy-emission. But it can also be a possibility that its a prototype brain designed to survive the rift and not crumble because of the tremendous amount of signals and information from the live noosphere. Or probably that brain is the key to controlling the rifts in the noosphere around lake Yantar. The emissions on the other hand is even more surprising to me because of its unexplained source. Its said to be coming from north (CNPP). But we are not given any hint of its origin or the physical device is never mentioned or talked about (generators maybe), I'm sure that device is somewhere hidden in CNPP buildings and the scientists from the common consciousness were controlling that until SHOC's cannon.
I have a suggestion for next video: Foods and drinks in the zone, I'm really curios about the supply!
