The eagle situation was really cool because that is, indirectly, how I got started watching your channel. I came across a video about tree climbing gear and I wanted to watch it for falconry purposes. The saw stuff was just a bonus.

Bought back my dad's old Stihl 044 saw he sold to his friend. It Is older than me and still has the machining marks on the piston and cylinder. It is an amazing saw. Got the same price he sold it for $250 plus a 25" bar.

044s are a legendary stihl saw. They quit making it for a while and then they had to bring it back. Emissions reasons are the only reason it went by the wayside.

You can have comfort knowing that he died doing what he loved. Just listening to him talk about it was a pleasure to listen to. Be safe and keep doing what you love brother. We are all going to miss Jed. Rest in piece brother.

    Jake,
    That's a big tree!
About five or so years ago, our daughter took us on a "tour " of the giants, from Oregon , through California
all the giant Redwood and Sequoias.
The biggest were a little over 300',
but the one you worked out here was tall, but some those Ancients were like giant walls 20 or 30 feet across.
Too bad so many of those were felled .
There is a grove just East of Concrete with a few of those biggies,
    but nothing beats those monsters.
The old timers felled them with axes and two man saws!
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector

Years ago, i lost a chicken to a Sea Eagle. I had seen it sitting in a tree further up the hill earlier that morning; I guess it was casing the joint, waiting for the right moment. By the time I saw it coming, it had already grabbed the chicken, and taken off again. Must have been 5 or 6 feet wingspan - and it was maybe 40 feet away from me when it struck. I'll never forget that, i can promise you that...🦅

Seeing the eagles that close up and personal it's just one of the most fantastic feelings. I've seen both bald and goldens in New Mexico. There is a protection act for both species so you have to be careful, even if you find their feathers in your yard you're supposed to contact u.s. wildlife.

Sad to hear about Sandra's harassment. Sandra is a white male which means intensive screening. Perhaps he should have entered illegally from the Southern border. He could have received perks and do whatever he wants without harassment. Strange how that works. My trip to Canada was a nightmare when harassed by border police at the airport. For nothing! Meanwhile, streams of "migrants" passed by freely right in front of me. Missed flights, lost luggage, prepaid lodging contracts destroyed, etc. was the result. Sorry to vent, but it is what it is. I hope he comes back and gets to climb or drop a beast of a tree..

I often refer back to a video you did, “Idiots with chainsaws” I really enjoyed how you used the pulleys in that video. And or maybe go over what pulley and rope systems you have on sappy supplies. Anyway thanks again.

  • @defan2105
    @defan2105 2 місяці тому

Question about water in the bucket..you said on a video you can't drill a hole because you lose your protection but can't you put holes in it for draining and then put another piece of same material inside with plugs on it after you drain it? Picture a dice with : : 4 or 5 holes in it and then the new piece would lay over it and have four or five plugs that fit in snug to seal it again until the next time you need to drain it? Just spitballing an idea, any electrician please let me know how wrong I am...but if you can, be nice about it. (or improve upon it like a PVC pipe that has a shutoff?, I'm trying) Thank you.

Armillaria is a fascinating organism. They are edible (with caution), and interact with other species like Entoloma. I think they hold the record on being the largest organism on earth (currently). They can, and are tree killers. Honey mushrooms are part of the biosphere, love or hate them. The parasitic relationship between Armillaria and Entoloma is contested, but from personal experience I'd say the Entoloma beats the honey mushroom in flavor and texture at least as far as edibility. Who is parasite to who is open to debate.

This isn't directly related to this video, but it is to tree work involving a crane. This morning (7/29/24), a tree service company doing a removal job using a crane in Wynantskill, NY had the crane tip over with a worker suspended from the crane, due to one of the outriggers being placed over a septic tank, which collapsed. Fortunately, the worker apparently wasn't seriously injured, but I wanted to post this here for awareness in the arborist community as it is a hidden danger that is quite literally overlooked: ua-cam.com/video/_bwIvIQxKxc/v-deo.htmlsi=UiyEoDeFougqPbaL
