Former military, current hiker, shooter, and commercial pilot. Was training to find a watch that would be useful for all the things. This is it! Just ordered one! Great review. Thanks!
@@Klemheist I believe it's around 45%
yes in Eastern Europe is 45% as well@@dnserror89
I want this watch, but I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 I’m going to sell first. I’m looking to see if the Tactix 7 AMOLED goes on sale and I’ll grab it.
Same I have ultra 2 want a garmin have to sell this clunker
I listed my ultra 2 on Facebook Marketplace for $600.00. I had 7 people make offers the next morning. I ordered my Tactix and received it Friday.
It is awesome, but it takes a few days to get used to.
I appreciate your approach with your videos! When it's running or athletic activity focused you are the expert and when it's not you own it and just appreciate the features even if they wouldn't apply to you as a consumer. Your humility is evident!
Worked as a LEO for over 25 years... Genuinely don't need any of these features... But I really want this watch. 😂👍🏻
what is leo?

@@MarkFetters Cool, I'm Policeman in brazil. In Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte.
It certainly is a good looking watch! I'd be tempted to get it based on the looks alone even though I wouldn't use half of the features,
The red vs green light is for map reading. Some writing / graphics can't be seen in a red light. The red light is more stealthy but the times I have lost writing due to red light...oof. Also I was going to get the epix pro...I am getting this one now.
I second this.
Green is for map reading but still doesn’t affect the eyes natural night vision at night.
the red light preserves our pupil-largening natural night vision. the green is for under nods (night vision goggles) that either uses a green or white filter, to put it simply, to function, so you're not worried about your natural night vision & the green shows up way brighter than red.
Grid lines on a map are almost always in red. So invisible under a red light.
No
It's not the gridlines you need to worry about losing at night, its your contours @@ablewingss
It is impressive to see how Garmin manages to produce « new » watches every couple of months … I don’t know how the consumer doesn’t get lost with so many SKUs, and I don’t know how they manage to sustain this. Software has a bit of this for this model, a bit of that for this one etc. I own both Epix 2 and AWU2, love and use both for different purposes - but feeling much less lost with regards to software and hardware consistency with AW. Not talking specifically about Tactix, just a general feeling as a normal human and consumer of these gadgets.
U mean the EPIX from last year? Compare that to aw ultra2 which one do u think looks better ?
@@brucelin5842 I would say that the Epix has a better look imo, but the AW2 has really grown on me and I’m using it daily. I’m a lot into multi days hikes and here I’m using the Epix.
I have a Garmin Instinct which I absolutely love. I keep looking at upgrades but if I'm stretching my budget for something that is ultimately quite similar, I want the top of the range. The fact that there's a whole tier (or several) above this one has me leaning towards the AWU2 instead.
I've been fortunate enough to own a couple of Tactix models including the Delta Solar AB and plan on grabbing this one next. This review is "a surprise to be sure but a welcome one."
so you need a couple of tactix watches to do the job? why? you use them simultaneously?
The paintball comment gave me a chuckle. Thanks for the content.
I’ve been enjoying mine a great deal. Fantastic review on the watch 👍
Green light is for map reading, Red to conserve night vision & I'm told that blue is good for tracking blood. Great information... wish I had a grand lying around.
Great video, thank you. I have the AMOLED edition, but there are just a few things that are just not quite "ready". Not all credit cards are compatible, the watch will only connect to 2.4G, and more.
I bought the previous Tactix for one single reason. The housing is stylish and not clunky like the Fenix lineup.
Yay!!🎉 been waiting to see a review on this model!
Still loving my Epix pro 51mm.
Having this watch on my wrist now. Got it the 2nd day it’s announced. Very happy about it. It’s the only watch that has 30day battery, LED display, and aviation app.
Green is for map reading in the field, thanks for the review!
Great review, nice watch. Thanks Dave.
Was waiting for this one!
FINALLY a real video on the T7A. I’m probably sell my ultra and epic pro for this. Only for the bezel..
Same here.
I’m a flight medic and the Tactix 7 aviation and NVG capabilities are perfect for me.
Green light for map reading. Great review sir.
This watch is piece of art ❤
I just order one.Unbelievable watch❤
Thanks for making this video about the Tactix 7 AMOLED. I want it too, but it's expensive... 😞
One point I think you missed is, that this watch also have a lot of flight functions included, which comes from their D2 March 1 series. Those are missing in the Fenix 7 and Epix Gen 2 lineup.
It’s mentioned in the video but I don’t spend much time on it because I have no idea how it works 😂
Why do you care? You clearly won’t be getting one ever lol
@ChaseTheSummit Hello!
You are explaining UA-cam fantastic. Congratulations.
I want to ask you. I have Garmin Tactix 7 Amoled. It is great best watch 7 Amoled?
Please let me know 🙏 😊
Damn you are right!i really dont need it but oh boy do i want it?!looks amazing!
Just received it last Thursday and I love it, especially the watch faces. I think it's the Shit , well worth the money 👍
Every time Garmin releases a new watch .... without your review for it, it seems like that watch doesn't exist 💪💪💪
Haha! Thanks!
For someone who hunts, you would typically want the the green light for map reading and tracking blood trails(in a pinch).
I bought the Tactix Amoled just for the amoled screen, redshift and hunting features. I plan on keeping it for many years, or until the next tactix model calls my name.
Good for you! If you like it buy it and enjoy!!
Thanks for the videos. Not on topic, but is a review on the new Polar Vantage coming? I am on the market for a new watch and super curious about the new polar :)
Yep, currently in testing. Stay tuned!
Great review !
Tactix 7 Pro Ballistic: Most underrated feature is the light. I can't begin to tell you how many times a day/night I use it. My only complaint is that I wish I could switch the light to the direction of my fingers so get a better angle. Also, the battery life is unreal...
The key red coloured features on a map that wouldn’t show up under red light are the contour lines showing the topography. These are critical to military map reading, allowing service people to understand the shape of the ground and use it to their advantage for concealment and cover when manoeuvring.
Interesting!
Bravo for your review. As always it is honest and entertaining, so bravo !
How and bout the green light it seems easier to read maps with that green as red is "eating" all colors...
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have a Tactix 7 Pro Ballistics. I want an AMOLED Tactix, but nobody wants to trade. Should I just get a Epix Pro 2?
I have the tactix 7 pro ballistic and it was 1700$ after tax somehow this version is cheaper they do say that for the battery to last 30 days the watch can’t be on always on display. So that for me is a step down from my current watch yeah the screen might not be as fancy but it is something about no worrying bout the battery for a month that does it for me
Beautiful design
Is the screen brightness the same as the Epix Pro? A few people online stated that it is dimmer.
I can’t wait for your review on Polar Vantage V3
Coming very soon!
I was really thinking about one of the boater watches Quatix I think they are. or a dive watch as I do both on the regular.
Loving the watch
What are u reccending ? Tactix 7 Amoled or Tactix 7 Pro?
I have the non-AMOLED pro ballistic. It's epic. Not THE epic, but really cool like a Fenix. Not THE Fenix, but kind of. lol. I use mine all the time. Battery life, functionality, etc is impeccable.
I like the brightness and the flashlight on the AMOLED but I prefer the longer battery life and sapphire screen of the Pro
I haven't found any videos that justifies Garmin's prices 😕. I agree the flat bezel is nice 👍. I wouldn't give up my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for a Garmin anything right now but with Samsung all day. 300 bucks for a brighter watch 😌 craziness. Im attracted to the Tactix tho❤, maybe one day. Thanks again 👍
Green is Night vision goggle friendly. As for map reading on 1 over 50,000ths red I think works better. Maps such a 1 over 50,000ths are green due to vegetation which using green light on green map is difficult. I have flown in the army as an aviator and NVG helicopters has modified cockpit lights that are blue green but that was in the 1980's perhaps things have changed.
That Tactix 7 Amoled is over $200 USD more expensive in Australia - They cost $1,627 here in Australia. In fact, the Pro Ballistics model in the US is cheaper than our standard AMOLED model in Australia...
I had that same nylon band with my Garmin Enduro 2. I bought it separately, it didn't come with the watch. It's a really cool, rugged-looking band but man, is it uncomfortable. Even after 6 months of use it was still uncomfortable and I also found that it started to fray at the ends way too quickly, like within a couple of weeks of wearing it, it had already started to fray. I ended up selling the watch and getting an Apple Watch Ultra. Quite different watches but the Apple Watch is way smarter in my opinion. BUT if you need crazy battery life or detailed navigation then Garmin is better.
Yep sold the Rugged band and put the regulat band on. Just too uncomfortable
@@diegosantos9752 I found the regular rubber band to be uncomfortable as well. It’s too tacky. It needs to be smoother like Apples or Samsungs bands.
Well, I bought nylon band extra for Garmin 6x, and now use it with Tactix 7 Amoled. Very well built band, after 6 months of everyday use it stays in very good condition. For me I like toughness and thickness of this band - it is unique, but I agree, that this is personal preference rather.
I changed the strap to a garmin ultra fit strap and it's much more comfortable.
Thank you. I am retiring, I don’t need to be tactical anymore and the government is not paying and most importantly I don’t need to show up to a country with a tactical watch and flag myself for secondary and being watched anymore. The epic pro will do just fine.
On a map, contour lines are often reddish-brown, so a green light does not wash out the lines the way a red light does.
So basically, no one who watches your channel needs this 😅
You'd be surprised how popular this watch is just purely based on it's looks!
I wish the "DLC" coating on the Garmin watch would not rub off only with normal use..
How does this compare to instict 2x tactical??
Would be interesting to see
It's basically an Instinct 2X vs Epix conversation at that point. The Instinct has a monochrome low resolution display, and plastic build. The Epix has a big AMOLED display with a metal build and is 2x the price. The core tactical features at similar though.
Great review. I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for. It appears that the Tactix line of watches are loaded with maps for the region in which you buy them. US maps for watches bought in the US, Japan maps for watches bought in Japan, etc. That would seem to make them less useful for travelers. Is there a way to add maps for different regions?
Yes, they come pre-loaded with regional maps just like the other Garmins (fenix/epix line). You can install additional maps for more coverage, and more advanced maps like hunting, and satellite imagery if you want to upgrade to Maps+ which is subscription based ($50/year)
It's really easy to load additional maps (or remove them) using the Express app on a PC or Mac. I've recently visited the States, and it took a few minutes to load the topo. Outdoor + is completely useless outside the US, however: it's just an aerial photo overlay.
Down here in Florida we're required to use red light flashlights on the beach in the summer, so we don't confuse nesting sea turtles. There's no way that's their intended use case, but cool nonetheless.
Don’t give Garmin any more ideas for new watch models! Tactix 7 Pro Turtle
@@Bingpot_Cowabungalolll that’s hilarious
I want that ballistic one 😫
The description on Garmin website says “adaptive display”. What is that and Does the Epix pro have this?
I think that's just referring to the adaptive auto brightness setting. There's a sensor on the front of the watch that adjusts brightness to your surroundings. Epix Pro has this as well.
Garmin has a plethora of GPS outdoor fitness watches but it’s difficult to make sense of which one or two have the best value/utility. I suspect this is by design.
just hone in on what you need. it's overwhelming at first, but each really has their role. it has less to do with cheap marketing tactics and more that, as a customer, you have to know what you need/want.
for general fitness or running the 245 is usually the most a lot of people need. it gets more complex if you're doing multi-sport activities (bi/triathalon), or if you need workouts on the watch, or if you want a gps map/way point finding vs just gps for recording activities.
Green is able to be viewed on NVGs easier than red aka tactical mode situations
6:48 ouch ,,, your watch Your watch hit the table. :( , btw nice video as all that you have! tks
lol, it aint the first time! (or the last)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder true but I think most of us agree this needs to be the new standard bezel look. It looks solid modern and sleek. It’s a hard buy though considering a lot of us can get a 20% discount on the epix pro sapphire 51 and pay around 800-900 a couple hundred bucks for a design
Anyone found a decent bezel protector for the tactix 7 lineup?
Green is made especially to not dmaage nvg equipment.
A light can leave burn mark phosphorus tube image.
And red is not more stealthy.
Green is signinifantly harder to spot from a distance and well you can use it with nvg you just look at your map you wanna some extra light and instead of grabbing a flashlight you can use green light that is much more visible in night vision goggles (they usually have green phosphorus tubes)
Nice watch. But my fenix 7pro is more than enough😎
The green light is better for night vision you can see better with lower nits in green than in red.
If we look at the interval between the sensitivity of rods (P) and cones (S) we can easily conclude that blue-green light (near 500 nm) would be the best headlamp light color to preserve night vision, where the interval is greatest. We can detect more light at lower brightness in that color.
Looks bad ass
Does anyone know if the watch faces from the Amoled come to the Tactix / Series as well? That would be awesome.
Some, but not all of them
Interesting. How bright is the display? Any issues reading it outside in sunlight?
1000 nits, very useable in direct sunlight
@@ChaseTheSummit Good to know, thanks.
Was going to order the tactix pro but screen looks dim. Might want the amoled. I currently got a galaxy active watch super oled so I'm guessing the pro would be dim
If you want something similar to your Samsung go for the Tactix AMOLED
@@ChaseTheSummitI wanted and needed the AMOLED model 😂 I’ve had it for 2 days. Love it! I wish they had better watch faces though but besides that best watch out now. Thx for the video showing off everything. I always got ads for one of those Alpha tactical watches on instagram and then realized they were basically a $39 Amazon watch overpriced and then ended up here watching your review on this watch.
Greek tattoo??!!😜
I am thinking to buy tactix or Apple Watch… I mostly want it for outdoor activities and after this video I believe tactix is better for this use
Wow, 31 days in Smartwatch AKA Standby mode on an AMOLED watch. Does that mode include Always-On Display?
Nope, with AOD on it's more like 11 or 12 days.
I have tactix 7 pro ballistic edition its my best friend ❤
I owned already tactix 7 standard edition, should I upgrade for Amoled edition or not?
You don't need to if you're happy with what you have. The AMOLED version just has an updated heart rate sensor and the brighter display.
The night vision actually dims to .7 nits! I think that’s the dimmest oled display
He said, “if you get captured or whatever “ 😂 😆 😂
Believe it or not, this is a real concern. Even if it is highly unlikely to happen, a lot of units won't let you wear a smartwatch into combat for exactly this hypothetical reason.
What watch is on your wrist here? Whats your EDC watch?
The Garmin 965 in this video.
Has anyone seen the Taxtix 7 AMOLED on sale anywhere?
Useful review. Thanks. Seems like a crazy price to pay unless you really need the features, particularly given the lack of day to day smart watch functionality. I have a fenix 6x and it feels very dated, but the menus on the tactix look the same - and the fenix is 4 years old! Come on garmin.
I believe that the green light has something to do with nightvision
Are the golfing graphics as good as the S70? Golfing and shooting are my top 2 hobbies 😊 Maybe Playbetter could comment. Thanks for the time on the video!
I believe the golfing graphics are identical to the S70 but I don't have an S70 to confirm!
Green light doesn’t reflect off foliage as much. Supposedly it gets absorbed more by plants so you depth perception is better also.
You sure? Foliage is typically green, meaning it is _mostly_ reflecting green not so much other colours.
@@scriptosaurusrex no idea tbh. Just heard it on a different channel.
Is it true that from now on Fenix and Tactix lines will have AMOLED display?
I guess time will tell.
The green light is for use with night vision. Using a green light is less disruptive on the NVGs
if you had 1200 budget for another watch which would you buy Chase and why? I already have a Garmin 965 apple watch series 8 and an apple watch ultra 1. Anyone can chime in I am going to buy at play better through your channel.
What don't you like about the 965, and apple watch? Those are two of the best... so I guess I'd try to understand what they're missing before you spend more money. Or do you just want something more premium?
At 12:20 - Using different colors of light in tactical situations can significantly impact visibility and stealth. Here’s how green and red lights typically perform in outdoor tactical scenarios:
1. Red Light:
- Visibility: Red light is often used because it preserves night vision. The human eye is less sensitive to red light, so using it in dark conditions allows the eyes to stay adapted to low-light environments. This means you can see the red light without your eyes needing to adjust much from the darkness.
- Stealth: Red light is less likely to be seen from a distance, making it a good choice for operations where stealth is critical. It doesn't scatter in the air as much as other colors, which means it has a lower visual signature.
- Applications: It’s commonly used in situations where you need to read maps, navigate, or perform tasks without alerting others to your presence.
2. Green Light:
- Visibility: Green light is brighter and more visible to the human eye under low-light conditions compared to red light. This means it can improve clarity and definition of objects better than red light, which is helpful in complex environments or where detail is necessary.
- Stealth: Although green light provides better visibility, it also means it’s more likely to be visible to others. It can be seen from greater distances than red light, which might compromise stealth in certain situations.
- Applications: Green light is often used by hunters and in military operations where higher visibility is required for moving through rugged terrain or identifying targets more clearly.
Conclusion:
Choosing between red and green light depends on your specific needs for visibility and stealth. Red light is optimal for low visibility needs where staying hidden is a priority, while green light is suitable when you need better visibility of the environment but can afford a slight compromise on stealth.
I didn’t even know Garmin made this. 🤷🏻♂️
What do you think is better between the Epic Pro AMOLED or the Tactix 7 AMOLED?
They’re basically the same Watch. The Tactix just has a few “tactical” features that the Epix doesn’t and a flatter bezel.
Got it 🙂didn't need it, but I got it.
Enjoy it! It’s a beaut!
Applied ballistics on the Play store is about £22 UK.
How are they justifying $300 to unlock it on the watch? 😮
Does this have the sapphire glass
Yes
Meanwhile Floyd Mayweather and other Rolex watch consumers continue to spend between 💲10 000.00-💲18million if not more on Rolex watches lol. I wouldn't feel the least guilty about buying a practical durable watch for $2000.00 at most lol. I have a couple Garmin smartwatches and I'm good. Tactix 7 AMOLED looks nice. Good Garmin smartwatch review
Meanwhile, most could score a Fenix 6 refurbished for around $300 and it’s a tank of a watch for that price.
Do you sell your used i wont one of them 😅
The green light is to be able to use it with night vision googles.
Dayummmmm 🔥
Is the screen quality the same as Epix pro?
Yup. Identical
@@ChaseTheSummit alright thanks. Not my proudest purchase
I dont need any so sticking with the epix lol
Does it have wireless charging?
No
Nice review and fun to watch. For the color blind the red or green light version doesn't matter. Meanwhile the killer app for the Garmins is that flashlight. That said, Garmin launches all these variants because they are able to tap each little differentiation pocket in the market. It's also kind of how classic Swiss watch manufacturers do it, except at a more sedate pace. Amazing how Garmin is able to retain their image and charge as much as they do.
Red lights typically don't ruin your night vision. Think nighttime photography or astronomy.
