  • This video shows how we set up the drip tape irrigation on our small sweet corn field. We used 15mm thick tape with 1 foot spacing between emitters. This is our first year using drip tape, so learn with us how to set up this new irrigation system.
    Subscribe to our channel to watch our gardens grow!
    We plan to share how Northern Extra Sweet Corn seed performed in our northern mostly arid climate and give future updates about this drip tape system after using it for a substantial amount of time.

    Good information - I've tried a couple of different solution on my place, but not that one. Seems simple and effective - will give it a try. Thanks.

      Definitely was simple once we understood the system. Good luck!

    Netafim Flex Net is the new most practical thing for Main Line. Illnever go back to polyethylene hose. Flex Net is pvc pipe you can roll up . Rivets dont leak. I have 2" and 4 inch

      Good to know! We just went with what we had. We were actually wondering what to use for high volume applications if we did a bigger field. Thanks

    You need to look up the drip line specs as they are very important to their performance.
    Tape are spec’d at drip rate in gph per emitter or 100’ runs per pressure regulator. I see the 15 psi regulator is far beyond 100’ so you are loosing water pressure big time, especially on the last run.
    Your main line feed should have the regulator at each tape run to maintain pressure so when you make water usage calculations, they will be accurate.

    That's the biggest corn patch i have ever seen! Great idea to use the drip tape. Are you going to try to save some seeds? Thanks for posting.

      We will not save the seed from this corn patch. Planning to do more next year already! Thanks for watching!

    I will be planting corn and watermelons this year on my land and good some great ideas for the irrigation system. I live in South Texas and we barely get rain so this is probable my best option. I see the bed is flat how does that compare to when people hill the bed?

      We chose to keep this corn field flat because we were growing corn. In our tomato garden and main garden with everything else we hilled the rows. People may have differing opinions on this, but we hill the rows in these gardens to allow the roots more room to grow as our ground gets really hard and rocky the deeper you go.

    Hello,
    Where have you ordered all the equipment?
    Thanks,

      The drip tape, end/start fittings, and pressure reducer is from dripdepot.com and many of the other fittings and poly pipe is from our local box store, which is Home Depot.

    Wow! What is the brand of the drip tape and how durable are they?

      We purchased from Drip Depot. On the spool of drip tape it says P1 light dripline. We are still on the fence as far as durability. We plan to make a pros and cons video soon about our drip tape experience.

    Good day, good job. More powers. Where can I get quality drip materials that can resist sunlight and durable in Nigeria. Again, How can I determine the best irrigation materials. Thanks. Well

    how did you figure if you have enough water [and pressure ] at farthest point to water the plant?

    • @MontanaMidValleyFarm
      @MontanaMidValleyFarm  10 місяців тому +1

      Our understanding is that since it’s a slow drip system with low pressure the water leaks out equally once water has made its way throughout the line. Now that this corn field has grown up we haven’t noticed stunted plants on the far edge from the start of the water source. Most people need to put a pressure reducer at the start of their lines. To make sure you have enough volume you need to know how much water you pump puts out. Then you can figure out how many gallons the field is using by multiplying the number of emitters by the number of gallons a hour they put out.

      @@MontanaMidValleyFarm if it's pressure compensated drip or you're not running very much equal watering won't be a problem but if it's more than a half acre of uneven terrain you may likely have water differences amongs plants

    Iam targeting 10hectares of tomatoes farming. How much do I need to set drip irrigation on 10 hectares?

    • @raincoast9010
      @raincoast9010 9 місяців тому +1

      That would depend on your row spacing, you need to do the math.

    How about selling the products of other farmers and craftsman at your farm stand (could be anything, knit stuff, honey, cheese or bird houses etc.)? Keeping in mind the regulations of our government overlords...

      @MontanaMidValleyFarm  9 місяців тому

      We thought about that a bit. It’s kind of a lot to manage so I’m glad the farmstand is seasonal right now. Thanks for commenting!
