- You HAVE to check this one out. NuX have created a Vox AC30 in a box and have absolutely nailed some of those classic British chimey tones all the way up to cooking classic 70's rock tones. I just got this today for £20 used and wanted to see what others thought. Why he got rid of it is a mystery. It’s a great example of the Vox sound. It drives the front end of my Fender Bassbreaker really nicely. Pure Vox tone. I’ve yet to try it in the fx loop, but that’s for another day. For £20 I couldn’t be happier.

@@BudgetPedalChapto kindly note as fellow Brian may gear owner user and and heavy user of the kat Brian may silicon treble boosters Brian may now uses (they build his normal channel ac30s not vox! Vox's name is just on there because that's part of the agreement with Brian) the top boost channel in an ac30 is NOT a treble booster. (Also I hear this a lot " a klon is a treble booster and eq pedal is a treble booster which it is NOT! Period) hope that clears it up 😊

Mine arrived from "Affordaboard" earlier this week. It's a belter of a pedal. I found it works best after all my other drives (Tumnus > Bonsai > Angry Driver > NUX`63) - if just gives all the other pedals a bit of grit if required, or played on it's own sounds "fab". Colour me impressed. £35 - bargain.

Sounds like yet another winner for Nux. It’s a shame that this doesn’t have the long press mode toggle like some of their other pedals. That’s a great feature.
Yeah, I have the horseman that does that. They could have done top boost and normal switch with that but I think in this case I prefer it as a toggle 👍
I remember seeing Rory Gallagher in Swindon in the 1980s as part of a jazz, blues (or was it a blues jazz🤔🤭🤭🙄) do. Remarkable player, great feel and tone. I used to be able to bash out a few RG riffs - this pedal inspires one to go all RG. RIP Rory.
He truly was one of a kind. Go knock out a few riffs for Rory 👍
So we had to help Prince Albert get out of that can, do we assist Brian or figure he can take care of himself or is happy were he is? Really I just want to hear about that shrinking technology now. Is it a ray gun? Gamma rays? Some new cloning process? Can’t wait.

My "one guitar, one amp" setup is any of my guitars through my Vox VT 30. I mainly play either the Fender-ish Deluxe Reverb setting or the AC 15 setting depending on how much sizzle I want. While this amp does way more than that, this pedal does a good job of grabbing that Vox sizzle, it would definitely be good in front of Dirt pedals.
I upgraded the speaker in my amp to a Jensen MOD. The Vox VT series are great amps for what they offer and putting in better speakers can really help them punch above their price point. Fantastic amps to buy used.
Speaker upgrades are something I've never dipped my toes into but it makes sense as it's such a big part of the sound 👍
Nice demo. Pedal looks really good value for chasing that cranked AC30 tone if your budget can't stretch to UAFX Ruby prices. 👍

Yeah, it really has that classic bark that you get with some ol' classic rock tunes.
I have a Nux Amp Academy and with the latest update The Vox AC-30 was added to 18 amps roster. Nux did a great job and with a change of IR I can get Brad Paisley like tones. This one is also a great and possibly well priced.
I've really got to try one of the amp academy pedals, I've heard some really good stuff 👍
@@BudgetPedalChap I bought one to play at gigs but it's also very handy recording tool. I prefer free God's Cab IRs. I can even use just it's IR block via return so I can use other pedals. Vox and Mr.Z are my favs for low gain amps.
Just like the Amps, The 9 O'Clock position on the tone cut is the best

What does this do that an EQ pedal can't? And what amp are you playing through anyways?
Guitar EQ pedals have fixed EQ points, so unless they align exactly with the EQ that a vox amp naturally accentuates, then the EQ pedal will likely only approximate the EQ of this style pedal rather than exactly match it. This pedal also adds clipping the further up the volume control you go, which an EQ pedal wouldn't. If you are just looking to get a bit more chime out of your amp but don't necessarily need the grit, an EQ pedal could probably do that well. This demo is through a deluxe reverb model on the HX stomp I believe, I made it to be a really neutral fender clean so the pedals do most of the contribution to the tone. Just bought one, i was quite surprised that it doesnt sound as 'fierce' like on the demo videos online.. it lacks gain for some reason.. is it supposed to be this way?
@@cigcgiv7tvitvk648 remember that the volume is the gain and the master is the volume. It's labelled up like the amp, so it's a bit odd compared to other drive pedals.
@@BudgetPedalChap even with the volume fully up the gain is still not as strong.. could it be because I only set the master to unity? Do I need to also crank the master to get the effect I want?
@@cigcgiv7tvitvk648 I've had a decent amount of gain without having to push the master. It's always worth a try, and compare it to the amount of gain I get in the demo. I'm using a Strat so it shouldn't be pushing the signal very hard anyway. Other than that, maybe double check the cables are good as they could be attenuating the input if they are faulty. @@BudgetPedalChap I still find it quite weak, I can get better "crunch tones" with a screamer, is it naturally lower in gain compared to a TS?
@@cigcgiv7tvitvk648 I would definitely say it pushes more gain than a screamer. Maybe my ears are hearing something different?

I don't think they're out yet, UK suppliers will be getting them at the end of next month so I imagine something similar will be happening in the US too 👍

You must try the ENO Metalistic pedal. At low gain it's like a klon.

@@BudgetPedalChap also. Ever heard of a Slow Hand pedal? Rowin make a cheap one. I would like to see you review one if possible. Slows down the sound by clipping and delay? For backwards, violin bow swells and used with a delay for a unique sound. Digital unfortunately but they can't all be anolouge. Cheers.

Did you try it with a sharp mid-boost or a cocked wah pedal to see if you could get that "boxy, hollow, mid-rangey" sound Brian May gets frequently, like in the solo for "Killer Queen" for example?

@@BudgetPedalChap Thanks! Can't speak for others, but I'd love to see another video where you concentrate strictly on replicating Brian May's sound with that pedal, even if you have to use another pedal or two to make it close.
That Brian May tone is a lot to do with his guitar and pickup wiring . Plus he goes into the normal channel , dimmed . Doesn’t use the top boost 👍
@@markandclairethomas2062 yeah, his guitar has a really distinctive EQ that's hard to replicate without using the exact gear👍
