Previously, in the last game, he had a upbeat pose and short brown hair.
Made him feel fluid and that you'd always need to catch up to him.
The new art changed his demeanor from feeling naturally upbeat to easygoing while giving him an overall darker design making him feel heavier. Also, noticed outside of his nose every aspect of his face has been shifted.

Having some Greek gods with darker tones of skin wouldn't be odd since mediterranean people's had a lot of skin tones, but we all know that they are doing this just to tick boxes, hence why Hestia and Hephaestus look the way they look in the game. The fact that it is not honest it is annoying. And it is a shame because the charaters do have cool designs on their clothes and themes which shows that the artists did do their research about them and can be creative, and then they put in some mandated things and use those things as the main marketing point.

Hades literally had all of this stuff too though. Aphrodite's ""man face"" was the same, they had black characters (Euridice, Athena, and Ares) despite them being from Greece in the mythology, and Zagreus was OBVIOUSLY bisexual. He and Thanatos' flirtation with each other was extremely obvious. It was exactly the same then as it is now; you just didn't notice, probably because you didn't have a youtuber telling you how woke it was.

Except Hades 1 had most of the things fellas are complaining about, including race swap charcrers(Athena, Ares, Dionysus)
The two reasons I can think nobody made a fuss back then was that with Hades 2 _journos_ were making hit pieces to games like Stellar blade while lusting over Hades 2 characters (mainly Aphrodite) and that caused unwanted resentment towards Supergiant's game.
The second is that Hades 1 roster was good-looking for the most part, Athena for instance was made black but she looks attractive while Hestia is not.

Hepheastus is the god of volcanoes, fire and the forge .... Hestia is the godess of family and the hearth.

@Vynne96-jg7er what a shame. Hades 1 had some eye raising choices in the first but nothing that I would feel was worth raising a fuss about, especially since the combat is solid and the story I felt is compelling.
When Hades 2 got announced, it was in midst of how these swaps were happening especially when people were expecting the original protagonist. This was definitely before SBI was on anyone's radars but the tone already felt off. Female protagonist with zero introduction sporting the red and green eyes of the male protagonist of the prior game, just swapped which eyes had the distinct colors. The distinct eyes with a new character when the eyes are from both Hades and Persephone implies the new character is a sibling to Zagreus. But why the hell would a sibling not be mentioned at all? It makes no sense.
Hades 2 story has me worried and I'll probably just watch Moist play it.

I really loved 1st hades and the game design as well as dialogues not because of inclusivity but because the game is a great game. I enjoyed the first Hades for the gameplay and art design, but passing on the second as the art I saw worsen. The hack from yesterday also is a shocker and shows how effective our voices are being heard.

It is important thta with a glance you can recognize the character, but with this designs, I get nothing that says Greek or God, much less Greek God.
that hestia character bothered be. first instinct was "is this supposed to be blackface?"
then i was shown Hestia's domains in greek mythology and I realized the outfit more charitably was just focusing on "fire" and nothing more. when someone decided to show an anime interp of Hestia vs the original and the Hades 2 version, I pointed out how the simplicity of anime Hestia's design and a focus on white as a color and minimalism lead to a kind of focus on her other facets- the other means of hearth, family, and home. essentially what im getting at is Hades Hestia looks like a walking once bonfire that hasn't cleaned the soot off, but that version fails to me on all the other implications. Hestia does have fire in her domains, but it's more about Warmth on my read- a familial warmth. original hestia and the anime hestia are closer, because fire is also a visual power, you needn't go so hard on such an easy concept to show externally.
