I was 100% sure I was doing this for nothing, boy was I surprised :)) Also I have an almost new remote and it behaved like this from the first day, I never dropped anything on it and I clean it regularly. I still have some lag in the webos menu and in some apps, but now when I press a channel button or a volume button it works seamlessly.
As I was spamming all my remote buttons I felt really dumb that I fell for this..... and then it worked.

THANK YOU! My remote had never really worked well. Turning the volume up or down, pausing a movie and what not. After removing the batteries and pressing the keys like you show, it now works. (Nov 2022)

You could aslo use air duster, rubbing alcohol and some cotton swabs for a much more thorough cleaning.
Why do you need to press and hold the power button when the remotes off?
It's so the remote can release any remaining electrical charge. Similar technique is done on PCs and other electronics when trouble-shooting. You want your device to be completely devoid of any electrical charge when trying to address an issue.

I have that exact same remote. It actually works. I never had any liquid dump on it. It just randomly acted this way. I had to hold the remote in place to power it on.

@UCJvTWctF-1vv9W6OiXHCO-A it’s the correct remote and it works perfectly fine. It just stopped working all of sudden. I know all of the buttons work and they’re not stuck. Since when i go into my Apple TV settings and try and sync a remote, all the buttons on this default LG remote register to it. So I’m assuming the tv freq isn’t on the same? Idk

as long as you have the correct remote and a set of fresh batteries it will work automatically...
i bought the romote from amazon, it wasn't OEM but it still worked great...
I wish you could do the same with some of the unruly countries on your map. 🤔

Hi I have LG smart TV with the same remote as your. My problem is when I press the power button just to turn off TV, it does turn off but it came back on again just couple second by itself. So I have to keep pressing the power button couple time until it completely shut off. Just wonder do you have the same issue? If you do how to fix this? That should be just press 1 time and power down like normally. Thank you in advance
