Honestly they all fucking slap, at this point honestly edm isnt seperated by age, even a kid born today raised to an adult 20 years later will still jam to the 90's all edm is seperated by is genre, an exponentially increasing libraries of genres added on by generations and generations of artists.
For me it’s the 2000’s & 2010’s of EDM. I like the 90’s EDM too. The 00’s & 10’s EDM hit different for me because I’m a 2000’s kid and I grew in the 2000’s and 2010’s so, the Dance/EDM songs of the 00’s and 10’s were magical for me 🔥.
I feel like electronic music peaked in the 90s, with such influential artists/groups like Daft Punk and Aphex Twin. I also absolutely love 90s atmospheric dnb and jungle.
yeah same i feel like late 90s and early 2000s was the peak of EDM, I will say the 2010s had a few bangers here and there, I miss the older stuff like daft punk and aphex twin, it was better.
@@d3drummerboy I think the issue with the 2010s was that sonically and philosophically there was a very clear difference between the pre skrillex music and post skrillex music. While not universal, a lot of the 90s dance era was pretentious as hell, filled to the brim with art school weirdos experimenting with synths. But by the time skrillex came out, the culture around dance music had shifted from a black queer and nerdy culture to one dominated by obnoxious frat bros. And obviously there was always dance music for frat parties, and the nerds never stopped making beep boop noises on their synths. But the dominant impression of the culture shifted in the 2010s, and it’s honestly really sad to see. I always feel like I have to justify the music I listen to cuz the current mainstream American edm is so adverse to my musical philosophy.
@@rainbowkittycat627As far as EDM (techno, house, trance, e.t.c.) You have an interesting take as far as using Skrillex as a dividing line. I'd say you'd have to take into account that there were two major scenes, one in the U.K. and the other in the U.S. and they did have divergent paths though they would reconvene in the end. In Britain, EDM was popularized from the ground up, with pirated radio channels and illegal dance parties which became massive, while the scene in the U.S. was underground for much longer and really only began to gain mass popularity after being conscientiously promoted by MTV and other music media. Fatboy Slim was already called Frat boy Slim in the late late 90s and Crystal Method hit the top 10 for album sales and tracks. The black and gay element had already taken a backseat earlier in the decade as the scene became dominated by European DJs and groups but it still let an influence. I feel like DJs wanted to make more money and so they started to spin or produce more of the stuff that appealed to the masses, especially U.S. American masses. I read a book where this guy, Simon Reynolds pointed out that more EDM producers were making more and more dance music with more complex melodies and less focus on making complex rhythms and this is so true when you compare late 80s and early 90s techno and house genres with so much later stuff. I don't know why I wrote this. It's just an interesting subject and one that's dear to my heart I guess and there aren't a lot of people around who knew or participated in the scene except momentarily and only very shallowly so it's nice to read someone opine about it who also wonders 'where did it go wrong?' lol.
As someone who grew up with those 90s and 00s songs, and as much as I LOVE your picks for the 00s as a personal fave, I have to admit that the 10s are surprisingly 🔥. Heads Will Roll is just addictively catchy. Keep the playlists coming!
After the last, you just had me go and listen to it again! I love Daft Punk and just about everything they do! The 90's and 2000's were really amazing!
I got into EDM in the late 90’s and early 00’s as I was becoming a teen and developing my own musical tastes. I’m just glad to have been around for 3 decades of great EDM. I don’t know if I could pick a favorite, just depends on how I’m feeling at the time and what I’m in the mood for.
Bruh 2000s and 90s just hit different
