    I just smoked my first turkey today (11-18-18). Was also the trial run for my new (used) WSM. Did a very similar technique, turned out great! Can hardly wait for Thanksgiving day. Good family and good food. We have a lot to be thankful for.

    Thanks for the mention😊Your turkey turned out perfect!! The color was amazing. I hate that plastic piece, mine was still a little frozen, didn’t think I was ever gonna get it out of mine. Spatchcock is a funny word😂I’m doing mine hot and fast again for Thanksgiving, just gonna go easier on the rub, as far as appearance goes. I know that turkey was delicious with the injection and rubbing it with garlic butter😍You don’t need a Guru, you wanted one, that’s all that matters😂Love your new knife, may have to get me one. I hope you're still looking at this. Based upon your "advice", I've ordered those accessories. I've also watched your other video on adding Pit Viper to the Weber Kettle. Mine is 26" so I'm really looking forward to seeing if the spatchcock turkey will fit a bit better. Now, my question is where did you get your "goose-neck" holder for your Pit Viper controller? I've got the CyberQ controller on order and I hope it gets in before my wife notices the charge :D . Love your videos and the way you present yourself; I've subscribed and I hope that helps you. Further, I really "identified" with your Craftsman drill. I've had plenty of those throughout time. You're a good man and have brought me some joy. Take care.

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019  5 років тому

      You just made my day. I really appreciate your comments. You will have an easier fit and cook on the 26 for sure. I need to use my guru again. I've been looking at it in my bedroom on the floor in the case thinking about what to cook with it. It's an expensive accessory, but really works great. The gooseneck holder that the Thermoworks Storm Thermometer was in came from Amazon. The other magnetic holder came from BBQ Guru I ordered extra as an accessory. Well worth it. If you look back under the video, you will see the words SHOW MORE. Click on that and you will see a drop down showing links to these items. That Craftsman Drill goes back to the 70"s when me and my late partner use to have it on our work truck. He's in Hillbilly Heaven now. I appreciate the sub to the PIF channel, and stay tuned for more vids. Be looking for that Visa bill and go ahead and file it away. lol

    Awesome looking turkey. I cooked one almost exactly like you did (but without the Guru) and it tuned out great. I had the same concern with the turkey getting too dark too fast. I was afraid of wrapping the bird because of the chance of the skin getting soft and mushy instead of crisp. I didn’t wrap the turkey and the skin was crisp. Yours looked good as well. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Keep them coming and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. By the way what was the name of that knife you said you got off of Amazon.

      Hey Glenn. I'm glad you posted that info. Most viewers love to read other's comments and experiences, especially when they are getting ready to try it. I know I do. The kettle will do a great job with or without the guru. Glad you had a successful cook. Makes you feel good when you put the time in and everything worked with a great tasting result. The slicing knife is a Victorianox ordered from Amazon. A company in Switzerland that makes the Swiss Army Knives. Thanks-phil

    Hey IFs, thats all the family, PIF, JIF, and TIF
    That bird looked real good, did u use any wood chunks or just straight charcoal? U need to use your OSHA approved crocs next time out grillin.
    As u well know it is always fun experimenting with all the PIF rigs, tryin something different. Did Toby have a preference on white or dark meat?
    Everything looked Tasty, spuds, bacon wrapped asparagus, ciabatta rolls, and the turkey of course. Two thumbs and one paw up on that cook. J

Then nearly half day Sunday. Takes a lot to put this on. TIF eats white and dark. Love my crocs with holes on top. Much more cooler. That one little hot flake hit the hole. LOL. Hey Phil I forgot to ask but where did you get those shears you used to remove the backbone? Do you have a link for them?

      Hey Steve. That cutter came from SAMS a couple years ago. Was included in a pack of those colored knives as a bonus. I've tried to locate them before but only find kitchen shears. The closest thing in appearance is what's called a bunch cutter. Haven't seen them in SAMS anymore. I've seen plenty of those colored knives but this cutting tool must have been put together for a SAMS CLUB promotional. If I find them I'll let you know.

      Ok thanks. They look like they cut a lot easier than regular kitchen shears...and I NEED some new ones lol

      They do cut easier because of how the hinge point is set different than kitchen scissors.

      Well, I couldn't find them, but JIF found them in half a minute at Amazon. I looked there too. Oh well, two heads better than one. That turkey was dirt cheap!!!! The lowest price around here is 88¢/lb, and that's hard to find. Food prices are very high up here.
    Don't drop the asparagus. The turkey looked fantastic for sure. Those slicing knives are great, I would like to get one. Have a great Thanksgiving.

      Hey GB. I couldn't believe Janet when she told me she paid $3.95 for a 14.6 lb turkey, and $5.00 for a 20 lb turkey. You saw that Asparagus disappear, LOL. Sharp eye eh? Think I'm gonna love that slicing knife. Thanks for stopping by GB. RO

I don't hunt, fish, golf, travel or gamble, so I have to spend some fun money on something. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. Happy Thanksgiving

      I definitely believe in pit cook over wood and whole hog type cooking over shoveled red hot oak/hickory coals for best BBQ.
