When bagging you should invert the bag by first opening the bag, sticking a hand all the down to the bottom of the bag, then grab the root like a glove, and pull the bag over the plant like a pillow cover. Less friction and bruising, much easier.
Love that your family put this structure together primarily w/o contractors. Ensuring the structure got detailed specific attention and clean, a sterile facility. Clean fresh safe produce !

My wife loves purple bok choy, they dont sell those around here, I'm trying to grow it in my small hydro kit all year in cold climate of canada, it works but it was hard to get it somewhat right. ph level was too high like 7-8(they wont grow properly unless under 7) and nutriment requirement around 1000-1200 ppm.
What does CSA stand for I recently subscribed really enjoy what you guys are doing you make it look so easy but I know the time involved is extensive ....you’re a really wonderful family . Keep up the good work 👍👍👍

They are doing really well despite the pandemic and have picked up a lot of customers. -Devon
Thank for the updates its very interesting, how long have yous been farming this way and do you self pollinate the flowing plants or is there a bee hive in there?
Yes of course! We have been doing this for 6 years, and the only thing we grow that needs pollinated are the tomatoes. We do not have bees, so we use an old electric toothbrush to vibrate and pollinate the flowers.
Mine took about 8 weeks. It was really good and easy to grow even though I let it dry out the one time on accident. I planted another round because I liked it so much. Hope you are doing well!!!
Wow! I would love to learn more about which seed varieties you use. Do you find some varieties are better suited for different seasons? I'm asking my dear husband to build a NFT system for me small scale to try it out and learn from. Thank you so very much for posting your videos! God bless.
We have found a some varieties that do very well hydroponically just through trial and error. We really like Johnny's Seed and they have a category for hydroponic seeds. We grow mostly asian greens, spinach, kale and microgreens in the winter. In the summer we do more herbs, tomatoes, lettuce and other veggies. Good luck with your NFT system! They are very fun and it's cool how many types of plants can be grown that way. God bless and thank you!
The greenhouse covering lets in the correct light spectrum from the sun so the lettuce can still grow without direct sun light. It also is good for us when we are working. We never get a sun burn, but still wear sunscreen.

A question about algae. Here in Florida algae loves nutrients in the water. We have a real problem with harmful algae like cyanobacteria. I worry that algae could be releasing toxins into hydronic food. How do you control algae?
We have can have problems with algae too. Our main way to combat it is keeping as many growing surfaces covered as possible. We keep a cover over the tanks, over the growing medium in the buckets, and over the unused nursery channels. As algae can't get light, it can't grow.
@@HomegrownPassion thanks I appreciate your reply. We eat a lot of hydroponic greens and once in a while they get a taste I can only describe as the way a dirty pond smells. Hi Devon, nothing to do with Bok Choi but about tomatoes. Mine set goo fruit at the bottom of the plant but seem to have problems setting fruit at the top. Any ideas? They are grown outdoors hydroponically.
What kind of tomatoes are you growing? For the Rebelski and orange tomatoes, we only let a couple off each flower cluster become big tomatoes and prune the little ones off the top. It helps make really big tomatoes.
Michael Pye I asked Katy and she said to just let 3 or so grow off each cluster and clip the top little ones off. She said she had a couple clusters last year with just one growing and they got huge.
We like to do 2-4 depending on the variety and season. More for the mini bok choy and during the winter. Less for the larger variety and in the summer.
