GREAT VIDEO! Very well explained and great supportive pictures, especially of using the paint stick to mark the places on the phazer gear, that was very helpful. To those of you who couldn't hear it very well, I know what you refer to. Go to your 'sound' equalizer and turn the bass down and the treble up and you'll hear him much better.

This video repeats a lot of things and misses a bunch of others that are important. Also it's not very much help for someone trying to replace a cam while the engine is still in the car. You guys should re-do this video and make it better. Include things like which bolts on the timing cover and water pump need to come out and which ones can stay, how to get clearance in front of the engine to be able to get the cam in and out of the engine and how to pick the right pushrods, to make sure they are seated in the lifters, etc.

This definitely clears some things up for me! I couldn't for the life of me get exactly 6 and 12 o'clock on my timing. Either the cam is slightly off or the crank. When my cam is dead 12 with TDC, my crank is a little off 6. I appreciate you touching bass on this because I couldn't get a straight answer anywhere else. You're the man. 🤙

Good informative video, sound needs to be addressed. And yet another example of INCORRECT torque wrench usage. He overtorqued every single bolt.Once a TW releases that is the preset torque desired.Don't believe me-okay. Torque a bolt down and double or triple click it.Then using the TW at the original preset and try to loosen the bolt.Do it slowly and the TW will release w/o loosening the bolt.Keep increasing preset until bolt breaks free and that will be the final torque.I only have 50 yrs experience as an Aircraft mechanic

You may want to put grease on the contact face of that cam bolt, ARP supplies such grease (and explains how/why to apply it) with their HEMI flywheel bolt kit. Without grease alot of that 90 ft/lb is used to overcome bolt to phaser friction.

Im doing this myself because theone time I get a mechanic to help he messes my truck up more than it was before so can I take out the old camshaft and just clean it and put it back in to retime the chain and what happens if the camshaft doesnt turn freely what does that mean? Because the truck wasnt having any issues with tining or camshaft until I had a mechanic help me change the oil pump and he only took the tensioner off the timing chain nothing else and now it's out of time according to codes and now I have to do it myself and I broke it all down and in other videos it shows ppl just freely turning the camshaft pulley thing and bottom part the oil pump slides on to but mine won't turn to retime and I'm not trying to break anything

I'm completely positive that the hemi lifter failures have nothing to do with mds. Way too many owners of deleted or never had mds systems have had lifter failures that ate the cam. The problem is cheap "lowest bidder" lifters. If you are over 50k miles and intend on keeping your hemi I highly suggest investing in high quality lifters now.

What brand lifters do you recommend? I just bought a Howard's 520 lift mds cam. You see a problem using Enginetech lifters or should I use Johnson's or maybe Hellcat lifters? It's a 2007 5.7 Ram.

My 2015 ram 1500 keeps getting a error code of a cyclinder 4 misfire, and on rare occasion multiple cyclinder misfires. I've changed all plugs, checked coils to see if there faulty, those haven't fixed the problem. Any ideas of what I should check next before I ha e ro get someone to RIP the engine apart to find if its internal?

Pull your valve cover make sure the pushrod is still on rocket and is moving properly. I had the same problem! If that all works well like supposed to look into the computer Ebay has them with lifetime warranty from a company in florida comes preprogrammed to your key! Nice service great quality I've bought 2 from this company 2 different dodge vehicles

the hemi has a flaw in the older engines, i think up 12 or 13. roller on lifter locks up and wipes out the cam. im dealing with this now. misfire on number 4. pull the valve cover and see if rocker and pushrod are moving, if not its the lifter and cam.

You don't need a new cam for a '17. Starting in mid - 2016, Melling began supplying reengineered lifters and a hardened cam for the 5.7 and 6 4 V8s. Squad cars also got slightly softer valve springs. These changes seem to have solved the old valvetrain failures.
