I have not done this before on a hemi however couldn’t you install a short pushrod and measure the gap between the pushrod end and rocker with a feeler gauge and add that measurement to the length of the pushrod to determine the length you need instead of buying the $100 tool/kit that’s somewhat difficult to adjust with your fingers in a tight space. It seems that it would be even easier with the feeler gauge method with the engine installed also.

      Did it work?

    • @purethoughts3844
      @purethoughts3844 2 роки тому

That may work, but you would have to consider the inset where the pushrod sits in the rocker arm. The feeler gauge wouldn't account for that, so it may prove a little more difficult using that method. Whereas with the checker tool, it is guaranteed at the to be at the setting you want without the guess work. Good idea though!

Thank you for the cool video... watchin this made me start thinkin to check my lifter preload (engine still on stand).... this is back when you guys were still guessin pushrod lengths... you guys nailed it, i got .073 preload with your nsr cam and new lifters, with fresh head gaskets too!!!
    You guys are good!!

I need your time to help get my 2008 hemi back on the road..I installed camshaft and lifters...due to the plastic lifter holder cracked and allowed my lifter to turn sideways and eat the camshaft..also oil pump timing chain...after in stall it fired right up but rattling even more so...I noticed uneven wore spots on valves from rockarm... And oil wasn't getting good oil pressure so I seen scarring on the pushrods and on the inside of where to push rods rod on the rocker arm so I replaced the pushrods thinking that they were shorter allowing a space in-between the valve also killing oil pressure after installing new pushrods now think I just ordered whatever RockAuto said....now I have extremely high oil pressure but rattling not so much..I'm lost..I will pay for ur time in Avance 💪💪💪

I've got a set of 6.4 heads that I want to put on my 6.1 426cu. In. Stroker, I now that these will need longer pushrods and I will need bigger intake valves reliefs in the piston, do you sell these kind of kits

Byron great video Thank you for putting it together. Very informative.
Question: Why is there 3 pushrod checking tools? Is the intake a common length and the exhaust length varies in different years?

What's the acceptable range for pushrod length? I had my heads skimmed .005" and reassembled with the factory pushrods.

would i need more pre load on a BGE based 426ci with the non MDS lifters?

So I bought thicker wall pushrods for my 392 and I was told the stock length for a 2018 6.4 MDS cam is 6.800 and 8.100. I got the same size just .80 wall thickness and I measured mine out of the engine and just measuring one on the intake it’s .020 smaller on the stock. Should I swap to shorter pushrods or call where I got them?

I have 2 questions if you're willing to answer - Are the lifters freshly installed (After just sitting in engine oil) or do they need to be pumped up or bled down? I've heard some people say to take the lifter apart to convert it to a solid roller and measure that way, but then you would have to torque the head down twice wrecking your head gasket and head bolts. Or am I confused here? I'd like to do it without yanking the head to put the lifter back to stock/hydraulic if possible. Thank you

@@ModernMuscleXtreme Oh I know, in order to swap out to new lifters, but I'm saying can you put the new lifters in, bolt the head on all the way and measure the pushrod using that? I checked the service manual and it wants the lifters bled down, but it doesn't cover custom pushrod lengths. Thanks for answering!

If you're using MLS gaskets, nothing gets ruined by torquing the heads down, removing them and retorquing again. Gasket is reusable unless you've gone through a few heat cycles and the rubber coating sticks to the head surface. Head bolts however should be checked for stretching signs.

    Why .050/ .080 ??
With other v8's with adjustable rockers
On a 7/16 NF stud comp preloads the lifters with 1/2 to 3/4 turn past zero, which usually ends up with .025/0.035 preload???

It will make noise at that number. Aluminum head expansion and pushrod angle could be the difference

The 6.800 and 8.100 is that with the preload? I'm working on a 5.7vvt that has a 6.2 cam with 6.2 lifters (hellcat)
