    In the last video we went over the basics of CSST and how it compares to black iron pipe for supplying gas. Now I want to talk specifically about Pro Flex and show you how it’s connection is made. I’ll also show you some safety equipment and accessories you can buy with this.
    All CSST pipe is similar from the most part, even though it’s manufactured from a few of the biggest names, but Pro-flex steel is annealed so it’s more flexible without compromising its strength.
    Every brand/manufacturer of CSST has a unique fitting system so none are interchangeable.
    So if you’re looking to purchase CSST, but you don’t know which manufacturer to go with, the deciding factor will likely come down to the fitting system.

    This is a great video. One thing you need to be careful with when using this style of fitting is the o ring. You can cut it very easily on the sharp stainless edge of the cut piping. Luckily you can buy the o ring and rings separately.

    Needed to move my range connection and needed more length. First time using CSST. Existing line was Gastite. Local supplier only has Pro-Flex tube and fittings. They do NOT interchange. Had to re-run the whole line, but it was easy and no leaks!

    oring hand tighten, plus quarter to half turn w wrench,any more will crush the o ring,I learned hardway...also good to see you wear gloves cutting the pipe leaves razor sharp edge,sliced my finger slipping the orange o ring over,had a helper ...he also did same,a file may help

    This system seems like how gas tite used to be where you just strip the runner out of the way. That’s much easier than what we use which is flash shield. It requires peeling different layers at different places which always causes leaks. However I’m always wary of using rubber in long term applications. I don’t like having a rubber gasket or O ring that I can’t easily replace.

    Installed 20 feet of trac pipe to repair a galvanized pipe gas leak. I like the fittings of proflex 100x better than trac pipe. Going with proflex next time!

    Just throwing this out there... Proflex uses multiple components inside it's fitting while Gastite uses a large beefy brass fitting without multiple small pieces that can get lost on a jobsite or under a house very easily... Also the "required" special tool Gastite has is not actually required, but it is recommended as a convenience since it will give you an exact cut for stripping away the outer protective layer vs eyeballing it with a utility knife and normally you can get them at no charge from the local rep which needs to certify installers anyway.

    Can you use csst underground and do i need risers with this?

    • @davem3789

      Use the poly underground with special fittings to go to steel risers to come out of the ground. All sold at Menards.

    Gloves are a great idea here. The CSST steel ends can be SHARP! I speak from experience. Ouch.

  • @227lazer

    These fittings leak easy. I find them with damaged pieces leaking all the time. .
    Gastite is the best. Pinches cast hard making a durable connection.

    • @PJBeee

      That is not my experience at all. Pro-flex is VERY leak-resistant. Not a compensated comment here.

    How would fix one of these if you cut it by accident???

    • @PEXUniverse
      @PEXUniverse  3 роки тому

      While you can, this is a very risky repair job. There will be plastic covers encasing the gas lines, and these need to come off so you can get to the gas line itself. You will need to disconnect the low-pressure gas line from the gas regulator. Then you will need to take out the high-pressure line before applying epoxy.

    Trac pipe is what I use. Not sure if proflex has gotten better in the last few years but when proflex and home flex first came out there was nothing but problems with them and leaks. The fittings were terrible. My company wouldn't even work on it. Again maybe it's gotten better, but Trac pipe is what we use and like, especially because the new "snap in" fittings they use its much easier. Trac pipe also now has a csst that can be buried in ground which used to be against code, but now Trac pipe has developed a csst with a much thicker jacket that can be buried.

    Ugh, do you really have to be a professional? I just need about 10-15 feet ran and fittings to hook up my gas range....it will cost me a fortune to get a plumber out here for such a small job ☹️

    • @davem3789
      @davem3789 3 роки тому +1

      You can get certified on this stuff. But they sell it at Menards. It’s not hard but if you have access to a pipe threader that isn’t hard either and it’s cheaper.

    Thought I'd let you know this: I liked your video, wanted to buy a complete set of piping, fittings, etc., to run a complete system in my house for LP gas. Called your 800 number and the gal on the other end was pretty much useless and absolutely not helpful. I guess I'll be buying from someone who has better technical support.
