This was so awesome to see live! And for you Al fans who aren't also Neil Young fans, that's the solo: one note. But one note with the HELL played out of it!
Al always rocks to the utmost! My right ear quite enjoyed that one... my left ear thought the occasional underwater/crunching celery noises were lovely too.
Love this so much! Al really rocks the solo in this video👏👌 We just saw Al 3 days ago in Greensburg PA and we were treated to a cover of Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting. 🎶 Someday I'd love to make it to the Apollo.
Does anyone else wish that weird al would make an album of non parody music, not because I don't like parodies, or I'm tired of his (because I do, and I'm not) but just because al has an awsome singing voice and a legit banging good band???
He got close! On Friday at his first Chicago show he did his cover of Beat on the Brat which is on Dr. Demento's Covered in Punk compilation. Dr. Demento was at the show Friday (he was in Chicago promoting the album) and introed Emo at the beginning of the show. It was a nice surprise!
There's a small town in Saskatchewan called "Cinnamon Swirl". It's just up the road from Swift Current. Here's part of a song about it. "I wanna live in Cinnamon Swirl, I could be happy, the rest of my life, in Cinnamon Swirl. Bait, gas, and groceries, hotel with a bar. Kids try to leave, but they never get far, from Cinnamon Swirl"
For an admitted novice guitar player, Weird Al certainly displays virtuosic talent on that solo! Guys like Clapton, Beck, King, Santana, et al, wish they could play like Yankovic does in this solo!
Excellent. Al nailed the solo. NY should be proud Al finally parody him. Good Crazy Horse like sounding back up band. But the lyrics were the real lyrics.
I've been loving these covers from the new tour. I think Steve's vocals drowned Al's out somewhat on this one, which is too bad. But Steve sounded great! LOL Their Blister in the Sun cover is still my favorite so far.
Was it intentional then? It's odd for Al not to be lead so I just assumed it was bad audio. But Steve's voice is really better suited, more Neil-like than Al's. And yes, he needed so much focus for that complicated solo LOL :D
Steve actually said Al let him do the lead on it, so it was definitely a purposeful decision! Al has always done lead vocals at all of his shows, so this is definitely different, but it was so fitting for the performance!
Nice. When did he say that? Were you at that show? I can't wait to see what covers he does here in Chicago and in Milwaukee (the shows I'll be at :D) I'm torn over whether to try and get a video of them to keep and possibly share, or to just enjoy and soak it in. And not have to worry about holding a camera steady. Also I'd have to resist singing along to avoid having my voice on the recording. :P
Steve mentioned it on Facebook after the show. I only went to the one the night before, but I know a lot of people that were at the second one! As far as video is concerned, you'll know how you feel about it when you're there. The only thing I'd worry about is the venue policy. At the last couple shows I went to, the ushers were pretty strict about videos AND photos. Of course, it wasn't too difficult to get them if you were discreet, as evidenced by all the videos popping up on UA-cam lately.
I saw him live in clevo in the 90's and he played an acoustic which he then smashed up and eventually threw the remains into the audience for souveniers
WOW!!! I can't believe he learned how to play that solo in only THREE MONTHS!!! The man's a GENIUS!!!
It was a joke.
@@tpzid Thanks for clearing that up Tom

Neil is known as the one note wonder.
Sing along everybody.....’I could be crappy the rest of of the the night from an enema pill’. Respect for both Neil and weird Al.

I've seen Weird Al twice and he's fabulous! Nice to see him doing covers in lieu of parodies.
Such a great song. I actually appreciate this version.
One of My Favorites! Loved how Al played the Guitar!
Does anyone else wish that weird al would make an album of non parody music, not because I don't like parodies, or I'm tired of his (because I do, and I'm not) but just because al has an awsome singing voice and a legit banging good band???
He who is tired of Weird Al is tired of life.
he did, it was just in his earlier days.
@@mr.krinkle8173 do you know if its available?
@@nicholasmapes of course it is, just go before like the 90's. his 80's music was pretty good.
@@mr.krinkle8173 i guess even back then i remember it being mostly parodies amd comedic tunes
HES SO BABY GIRL OMG I LOVE AL 😍😍
Al never disappoints!
Al's mike isn't on. All you can hear is his bass player singing.
Nice work Weird Al. One of my faves
As soon as I saw the song title I had a suspicion. This was great and well thought out.
Amazing.
I always liked the Type-O Negative version a lot, the Neil Young original, and I love this one.
Classic Weird Al!
Not at all a Neil Young fan, and yet, I absolutely loved this--Weird Al can do anything!
A true guitar prodigy. Astonishingly accomplished solo performance.
I taught Al and Neil how to play that solo
Wait for it...wait for it...finally Weird Al flaunts his guitar prowess. He's da man.
Cool, he did the rolling stones it's only rock n' roll (but I like it) in Atlanta on 4-15-18 I was at that show!!
Long live Weird Al
Perfect. If he can do that, he can also do "I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones.
That would be epic! Can't wait to see what they bring to the Chicago shows!

Well: He just did ua-cam.com/video/eKDx9bvCP-E/v-deo.html
Impressive voice. I didn't know is was such a good singer. ❤
Serious business here!! Spicy, spicy.
Guitar solo at 3:19
Lol!!! Boy was Al shredding the hell out of that solo!

great band 🎛🕶

Nailed the solo!

Hence, not a parody...
This is a cover, not a parody.
I was hoping he'd parody this one and title it "Cinnamon Rolls."
I love Weird Al's parody stuff, but it'd be super cool if he did an album where it's covers of his favorite songs or something. That would be badass.
the sustain at the end!
Dude he held it forever WHILE handing the guitar off to a stage hand, MAD!
That's not Al singing. That's his bass player singing harmony. Someone didn't turn Al's mike on.
This is the Ginger Anthem.
Continuing his trend of songs about food... and he only sounds like Neil when he plays guitar, amazing!
I met al in 87 at bullwinkles. He was cool. Al wanted to record chicken pot pie. Mccartney said no

It's because Al is doing back-up vocals for this song, and Steve is doing the lead. I think they did that so that Al could focus on his solo, lol.

Classic solo

He should have changed the lyrics to Cinnibon Girl.
Gelezinis Vilkas I was thinking “a cinnamon roll” but yours is good
You're right. Al could make the lyrics hilarious.
OK, that's just too funny!!
Need the solo tabs.
Or you could just listen and figure it out.

Anytime, man.
😆 that was actually pretty bad ass
Lol I was just trolled and I love it
Now that he's mastered the Neil Young solo, maybe he'll sing "Mellow My Mind."
meh...one string wonder, LMAO. That was awesome! Luv me some Al!
Wise up Vegas! Give Al his own 20k seat arena.
Thomas Pintion Yes! I would go in a heartbeat
Almost as good as when he shredded.
Wish woulda done that ending riff.
Now, all he needs to learn is the solo from Down By the River.
Holy shit This shit is the bees knees
Grinder notification sound at .35
Interesting. So, Al is playing the guitar and Neil Young is harmonizing with Al and playing the bass.
That's a real switch up.
MrMagoo thats Steve Jay on bass, he's been with Al since 1982
Steve Jay looks like Neil Young
Al should have done cinnamon squirrel
XD
Someone send this to Stevie T
Perfect solo but the rest of the band knew the changes?
Brown sugar would have been more apropo at this venue!
Great cover Mr. Weird, except too much distortion.
Cause nothing says, "Apollo Theater" like Neil Young.
Better than Neil these days.
Well that was average, stick to polkas and parody. (Still love ya though!)
Weirdo Al should stick to playing solo.......as in with himself
