Are Mars lights still getting much use in the States? From this perspective it doesn't appear to be as effective as a fixed headlight and I can't help but wonder how distracting they would be to motorists when tracks and roads are running parallel? Really interesting video, thank you!

Not the mississippi river. that was mill creek, which branches off of the Cumberland River. The cumberland empties into the Mississippi river in KY.

Tennessee the Lone Star State?😂😂 Tennessee Central Railway had passenger service on those rails until 1955, Nashville to Harriman, TN, where you could access the Southern Railroad. If they did indeed close the Donelson station in 1930 it wasn't because passenger service had stopped. It was booming in the 30's.

ONCE WE GET A RED OVER GREEN WE TRAIL THROUGH THE SWITCH ENTERING THE MAIN LINE. WE CALL IT CONVERGING AS WE ENTER SINGLE TRACK. IT IS EXACTLY LIKE THE DWARF SIGNAL AS THE TRAIN IN THE VIDEO ENTERS THE MAINLINE. I KNOW THE ASPECTS THOROUGHLY! THE SIGNAL IS OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS DIVERGING CLEAR, BUT WE CALL IT CONVERGING CLEAR OR CONVERGING APPROACH WHEN TRAILING THROUGH A SWITCH TO ENTER THE MAINLINE ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED AS "CONVERGING". WE KNOW THAT IT IS CONVERGING BECAUSE THE TRACK CONVERGES INTO SINGLE TRACK. IF THERE WAS AN EXTENDED STATION TRACK WITH A SWITCH TO DIVERGE ONTO THE MAIN, IT WOULD BE DIVERGING CLEAR OR DIVERGING APPROACH TO ENTER THE MAIN. WHY DO WE GET A DIVERGING CLEAR WHEN THERE IS NO DIVERGING ROUTE??????? THE ONLY THING WE CAN DO IS "CONVERGE" ONTO THE MAINLINE. AT THE NEXT STATION, WE WILL GET THE SAME SIGNAL ON THE MAINLINE TELLING US THAT WE ARE DIVERGING ONTO THE STATION TRACK. WHY DO WE GET TWO SIGNALS WITH THE SAME ASPECT WHEN ONE MOVE IS FACING, AND THE OTHER IS TRAILING THROUGH THE SWITCH???? ON THE UNION PACIFIC, THE "SET BACK" SIGNALS HAVE ONLY ONE HEAD. THEY DON'T NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE CONVERGING ONTO A SINGLE TRACK MAIN I GUESS. I THINK WE GET IT SO THAT AT NIGHT SO WE WILL KNOW THAT WE HAVE ENTERED THE MAINLINE BECAUSE OUR SIGNALS ARE ALL DWARFS???? WE RUN RIGHT NEXT TO UP AND THEY NEED TO BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE AT NIGHT SO THEY CAN IGNORE OUR SIGNALS AND FOCUS ON THEIR OWN????

That Mars light would drive me batty after a while, but it's there for safety. At least Nashville has this one commuter line; Atlanta has none!
