Thanks for the explanation! I'm sad that I only have sealed batteries and 20v chargers. But, the behavior that the weak battery demonstrated will be helpful for me diagnosing batteries in the future.
1 questions, When you use the laptop charger, how you now when the charger will stop charging the battery to avoid continuously Charging that might explode the battery. Is using laptop charger will have cut off system during charging?
i suppose you could try this as a last resort to tossing it, but first charging the battery is current limited up to about 14 volts, then voltage is held and current is tapered off to somewhere around 1/4 amp and is then terminated or held in float mode at around 13.4 volts (above is ballpark and is dependent on actual battery). Also these are agm batteries and should not have enough water in them to spill. If you tip it upside down and it leaks, you have too much water. The vent caps are not supposed to be opened, But like i said if your going to toss it out then sure try to revive and water it, just be careful.
No dear @mr electron and @little raptor you can run the motor at max power, 1: 50A is more than enough for a 150w motor, and 2: lead acid batteries can output crazy amounts of amps, and 3: I’ve tried running a 250w motor on a 4 ah 12v battery and it worked just fine, have a great day / night @mr electron and @little raptor
@@fbi-federalblyatofinvestig3853 ok, yeah it seemed a bit weird to me that that motor would consume more than 50A, but i looked up how to calculate it and 12V.50A=600w, so i can run it at full power. still, thanks for the feedback
If I understand your correctly: there are 3 ways you can do this. 1) If you already have the original charger that comes with the battery, you only need to get the alligator clips with proper connection for charger. 2) If you dont have the original charger, you need to buy the entire set. 3) You call also purchase a wall to battery unit plug. Hope this help!
Correction Guys, this battery is overcharged. The battery is 7ah and the charger outputs current is 3ah so the charging time was supposed to be 7ah÷3ah=2:30minutes and not 17hrs as he said.
but wait .. higher A in chargers means faster charging ? what about the w of the charger ?? also higher w means faster charging like smart phone chargers ???
im a rookie at this but my understanding is that a 12v7ah battery is fully charged at 12.7, anything over that is overcharged. You were originally at 12.2v so i believe its at 50%. A 12v charger actually puts out 13-14v. i think at 3:30 in your video you are reading 14.73v right away because the multimeter is connected to the charger as well. With a 15v charger you risk overcharging or worse unless you are constantly monitoring it Im a rookie but thats the info that ive gathered so far
Hello Everyone. I have a question. I have a B&D 750W 6.52amps inverter model PI750AB. For the most part it works perfectly. But I'm experimenting with using it with a smaller battery in my chicken coops when needed. I have it hooked up to a GT12080-HG 12v 8ah battery. I can run a fan, laptop radio etc no problem. But when I plug in a 200w heat lamp the inverter goes yellow and cuts the power. The battery is fully charged. Why is a 750watt inverter shutting down when plugging in a 200watt heat lamp??? Any ideas?
The inverter's rating of 750w is the maximum that the inverter can provide, not the battery. My guess is the small battery isn't providing enough current for the inverter to deliver 200w of power to the heat lamp. 200w divided by 13.4v is 14.9 amperes--quite a bit of current draw for a small lead-acid battery. The inverter tries to pull 15 amperes but can't, so it shuts off. I hope you've got it figured out by now! Maybe try a larger battery, or a different chemistry battery. I believe Lithium-ion or Lithium Iron Phosphate can discharge at faster rates like 15A.
Yes it is because capacity doesn’t matter much just put it on for around 4-6 hours because the capacity is lower, if it gets too hot then disconnect the charger because it’s fully charged 😁, have a good day/night sir.
No, there will be too much current for the rated Ah of the battery. It should be a max of 10% of the Ah of the battery (0.1 C), so you need to current limit to 350 mA. Anything faster, even like 20-25%, will heat the battery more, possibly cause gas build-up and will wear the battery out faster.
Could have added a regulator or something, even resistance to drop the current to a max of 1.5 amp for the first 10 hours before allowing more to surge the system. Also no fuse or any other safety cut off was used to prevent hazzards. In the end the best way is to use a proper charger that allows you to set the charge current and the cut off voltage. Using back yard measures like this is dangerous

That's a wrong answer ! If i connect a 500v supply but the current is too low it won't attain 500v. In my case the current was only 3 Amps and the battery was very discharged because of which it directly showed 14.6V but then in a few hours, the display voltage reduced to 13v and finally stabilized at 13.98V. When you charge a battery, it charges in steps and slowly attains the voltage equivalent to what's coming out of the charger. If the Battery is instantly attaining the 'Charger Voltage' it means ( either the battery is deep discharged ) or ( too old to hold the charge ) or ( the connected power supply is very big ) . There is no other possibility.

A laptop battery has a controller and balanced charging unit installed on it that converts 19v of laptop charger to 11.1v or 10.8 in some cases.
Charge flows from higher to lower potential. If the voltage is same there will be zero current flow and the battery won't ever charge.
