Even if we keep in mind the sublime interpretation of *DFD*, we can only warmly congratulate the Maestro Lutz and M. Harvey for this excellent version. Thanks for sharing.☺
Wonderful version, with an amazing Peter Harvey. This version also does justice to the wonderful contribution of the oboeist, often neglected in many other performances. Small orchestra makes the music clear and transparent.
Hmm...a hard choice, to pick one or the other! Personally it's 'Schlummert'; more soothing and consoling to my mind. 'Mache dich' is more...bittersweet, perhaps? I think Gardiner's recording with Harvey is top-notch--the best.
Congratulations superb work!!! All Ist excellent musicians. No don't care because is "genug" or "genung" the most important is the beauty of Bach and the orchestra. Bravo!!! Greetings of Perú.
Listening to a lot of Bach cantatas for inspiration while composing songs to be performed at my local church. This is one of the best!! Thank you so much for posting
In German is "genung" an alternative form of "genug", meaning "enough" in English? Or is "genung" simply an error? An explanation here would be worthwhile.
@@Schleiermacher1000 Old german accent. Steht so in der Original Partitur. this means "authentische Aufführungspraxis". They try to do is exactly like they did in former times, when j.s. Bach was the conductor himnself. Using old insruments and so on. I find it intrestin, but nor shure if it 's possible to reach the original sound. We don' have a "Timemachine" to go back and listen to Bach's interpretation.....
„genung“ was locally correct high German. Bachstiftung uses the original spelling in the title and the music, but the modern correct spelling in the subtitles. This allows translations to other languages.
The intrsting thing about this sentence is, that it has tow meanings. 1. Genug = satisfied. plenty of life, reach my fortune so I agreed to give up my life and go peacefully. 2. "Ich habe genug" = Es ist genug" like to be tired of my life, happy to get rid of it. I like the fact that in spiritual context, talking to god, both versions make sense
Schlummert ein: Blissful, peaceful, serene acceptance of death---SUBLIME!!!!! (My wife had to correct me--I thot it was a lullaby to the Christchild--Simeon was accepting his own death)
It is not "i have enough" .It means " i wish nothing more" , because i have meet The Lord Jeseus Christ today, refering to Simeon, meeting the child Christ in Jerusalem.
@@burgstallersina4895 Vielen Danke. Thanks for reading and commenting. That is your opinion, very respectable. I do not believe in God, but if he existed, he would be the one who should thank Bach. Vielen Danke noch einmal. Greetings.
Beautiful version of one of Bach's most mooving cantatas. The singer is absolutely superb, what a voice...

Ergreifend schön💫🙏
Danke 🙏
There is a beautiful , sensitive , vulnerable feel to the singing in the opening aria. Truly touching.

That’s why he is Bach . Bc his faith was in the Lord Jesus , I’m very happy that God saved Bach and he will be praising the Lord I heaven for ever
Wunderbar! Wunderbar! Vielen Dank!!❤❤
Oczywiście poprawnie jest ,,genug,, dosyć. POZDRAWIAM SERDECZNIE. Dziękuję. Szacunek. ❤
Could never decide whether Schlummert ein or Mache dich was Bachs most beautiful aria

Indeed. Schlummert ein points right toward Mozart
Nice allusion/reference to the St Matthew Passion in the organ part at 19:27 - very clever! Thank you
listening to this singer is a religious experience
Great musicians, beautiful voice! Bravo!

Thanks for sharing.

my favorite oboist. Delicious
Marvellous - as everything radiating Bach's Genius!
A most wonderful work of art, composer, baritone, musicians, a legacy to mankind. Thanks so much for so much detail even with the subtitles.

Why is there a consistent use of "genung" instead of "genug"?
It is the original German text.
❤❤❤
Genug German for "enough"
In German is "genung" an alternative form of "genug", meaning "enough" in English? Or is "genung" simply an error? An explanation here would be worthwhile.
"Genung" is archaic, or it seems to be. It is what Bach wrote in his manuscript.
"Genung" is indeed the original German word here. We would say "genug" today.
@teatotaler nein

Tonnerwetter.
Impossible to do any better.
Where did Bach´s inspiration come from? There are no words to describe such magnificent music... I kneel at your feet, master.
