We need an interview with Danny Boy O’Connor. He, himself, was never a superstar, but his involvement with Hip Hop runs deep, from his time in House of Pain, his relation to Cypress Hill and the Soul Assassins camp, directing videos, creating projects like Xsupermodels and La Coka Nostra, his involvement with streetwear brands, and his relationships with other superstar rappers and big time celebrities. His story is wild.

I moved to Brooklyn from my home state of Kentucky in 1998. All my CD books were mostly down south joints from mostly Houston, Memphis, New Orleans & Atlanta. Me, being a hip hop head that loves all regions, I was trying to record music from Hot 97 on cassettes off the radio, but all my folk would never let me record shit. They always had my playing my southern shit 24/7. They was definitely feeling the Cash Money joints. Juvenile just dropped 400 Degrees & they was definitely feeling that B.G. "It's All On You, Vol. 1 & 2." I couldn't get them into any DJ Screw or any chopped & screwed shir back then, tho. Now they like that shit, lol.

@Cogic I liked chopped & screwed when I first heard it, but what really set it off for me was the hook on UGK "Diamonds and Wood" back in '96. Even tho the lyrics by Pimp & Bun wasn't chopped & screwed the hook was. Being from Kentucky, some say we from the south & others say we ain't. I always had more of a connection to southern shit because how we live out here with gold grillz, old school big body rides, how we talk & good ol' country livin'. That being said, I love NYC & West Coast music just as much too.

From James Brown to Disco King Mario... a lot of those B-boys, MCs and DJs who were cooking the culture in the '70s were fresh and new in the City by the '60s. Look it up. So while hip hop was made in NY, its flavor came from the South.

I'm from Dallas and I have family in NYC (North Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens). Each time I go to New York there's nothing but hospitality. My daughter and I got on the wrong train going back to The Bronx coming from China Town. I got on the green (6) instead of the (4) and a young dude kinda figured we were lost because I said there's the (4). He leaned over and said you can get on the (4) at the 42nd stop. He could have easily saw us as victims. Salute to New Yorkers. And about the music, I was a writer back in the days and my emcee I looked up to was KRS One and LL. They were the reason I start writing.

By the time they put out their first couple of tapes under the Color Changin Click he had managed to gain some solid respect. By the time he put out his first solo CD Peoples Champ he was a certified staple in the scene down here.
