In this episode ive got something abit different, i just bought a rusty old classic rover mini 1.3 spi, i can restore this mess it could be worth A LOT OF MONEY! Its all about getting the rusty old engine to run, im investigating the 3 main components AIR, FUEL AND SPARK! LET THE NEW BUILD BEGIN!

Been after a mini for ages and i never see them for that kinda money. Madness 🔥👌
My first car was a 1983 mini city e. I paid £200 and changed the engine. Total cost to get back on the road was £400. I’m amazed I’m still alive as it had drum brakes all around. Fun to drive through. 😂

I'm glad you turned things around we all relate to normal cars and your right low mileage minis fetch some doe, many you tubers are doing 140s etc etc don't rush this its a perfect money maker keep it standard at least the next man can put it back saying that k series make these fly.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy a new fully paneled complete heritage body shell in primer for £11,000 including V.A.T than spend hours and hours cutting rot out and replacing panels which aren't cheap. separately

Hi Dee - you should try getting a complete new body for that - it would be cheaper than you think. If not, make sure you fit genuine panels if you want to maximise the value. Good luck!
Buying the body panels is easy, finding metal to weld them to is the hard part 😂
Love your channel.. but this is gone beyond repair my friend .. getting the engine started is least of your problems .. I reckon you’re in for more nasties than you can imagine once you get into it .. but good luck . 👍

Let’s hope so .. they are rot boxes .. you’ve only scratched the surface .. watch Yorkshire car restoration if you haven’t already .. Restorations like this are not going to make a profit ..there done by people for love of the vehicle .. they are money pits .. I hope you prove me wrong .. but there is worse ahead for you in my opinion but keep it moving . Good luck .. get a good broom you’ll be sweeping most of that min up off the floor 👍😂😂
This car will be a lot of work but it should be worth it.
Used to love working on the engines in these cars, the metros more than the mini's because everything is so cramped inside the mini engine bays, but everything is pretty simple if it's not rusted into one piece lol.
The fuel injection system is probably identical to the 1.4 spi metros from the bulkhead forward if you're needing to source parts. The throttle body looks the same, at a glance, for example. Rover was working to a budget back then so didn't bother to develop new bits, just used what they had lying around for the most part 😂 Minispares is a good source of new parts if minisport doesn't have what you need. Biggest issue with these cars is rust on the body/chassis, good news is almost literally every panel is available if you are willing and able to fit them.
Can't believe even a newer one like this is worth £20k now 😭
We used to buy a car in this condition for £Free-to-£50 and almost MOT-worthy ones for £150 😂
Good luck Dee (and try to jack the car up from the subframes rather than the body, they really aren't built for jacking from the sills, hence the rust on the floors).
You're only suppose to blow!!! The bloody door's off. A reshell would be a faster turn around. Or definitely heritage parts!!! Happy welding 😂🎉

Miniparts are great and usually have every classic wise in stock , sorted mine when I restores the GT a while ago, good luck.

There should be a spring on the actual part what was seized up one spring hold one way and one spring hold the other and they work against each other, I used to work at a garage that restored minis and MGs basically the same engine. Good find but them panels will be expensive don’t waste your time patching them

I’d take the shell to soda blaster uk in Kent. All the top paint and body shops use them. Well worth it.
Trailer to transport shell to blaster, several black bags to bring it back in 😂😂
You need to take the sub frames off, mostly the rear one. I can tell you right now this is easy to take apart, getting it to drive again without crabbing is another story. This looks salvageable if you know a mini but might be easier with a new shell. when you remove the front wings pay close attention to around the interior vents.
around the interior vents is critically close to the A pillar, you will soon see that.
Sure u can get a new shell for this car and have the engine rebuilt forged for as much power as possible she be a keeper little go cart
Ascaso engineering have a talk with them they have a new engine built for these would be epic to fit one in this … love minis keep the look original with new engine as mentioned above
Quite easy minis I used to reshell them years ago , get new shell and a donor car , hardest bit is new subframes. In line , engines are crap. Easy to rebuilt Standard rebuild. Hardly any electronics like todays cars

But this isn't even a proper Cooper. The 60's mini's are the ones worth money not the later ones like this.
Sadly it's never going to be 20k unless you spend 20k but I'd still like to see it saved!

Looks like a candidate for reshelling, unless you are a very skilled welder.
I wish you luck but in my opinion a Rover Mini is very poorly built compared to earlier ones and my 78 mini has 14,000 on the clock and virtually no rust, I admire you trying to save it but this is a parts car at best.

There's so much rust in the car it isn't viable to restore in my opinion. Cost of full restoration will exceed what it's worth. I know it's content for the channel but your time would be better spent on more profitable projects 👍
if you want to maximise your profits you need to go back to original
Restore it and sell it get your money and find something else better
