We’re all a little off kilter right now so forgive me my absent mindedness. It’s been a crazy few weeks and I’m also not feeling great myself. Please watch, laugh with me, and take a break from your own troubles.

Your video really illustrates how much more complicated putting an engine together on a newer bug design is..... I’m not sure when it started to change, but I don’t remember my old 64’ being that tricky.
Live and learn.... If you ever have to do this again, it should go smoother. I admire your determination.

I found with old tin many holes are wollored out so some repairers with a welder are needed...many blind nuts had to be added..and a little hammer and dolly work...now my tins fit very tight,no air leaks....
Oh man! I'm going thru this now. I have to redo my beater boxes too as i have not done the lower tins. I am also struggling with front apron tins, i have to find nuts and bolts for the heat riser and exhaust tubes, iam also having issues with that rear upper and lower flaps near the oil cooler outside. Ayayayeeee!! Lol
It took so long to figure out! But got it in the end.
The belt is not a "timing" belt. It is a belt for the fan and the generator. Valve timing is done by gear on crankshaft meshing with gear on cam shaft, at the right spot. Ignition timing is done by distributor. To keep hot air that is being blown out at the bottom of the engine, from coming up into the engine compartment and heating the engine, you need the rubber grommets that go around the short metal tubes that carry heating air from the cardboard hoses to the heat exchangers. If you can't get rubber grommet you can use silicone seal. Every little bit of hot air you can keep out of the engine compartment, is important. And don't forget the rubber flap that goes between the engine and the body.
I’m sure I meant the pulley and not belt. That’s the problem with dyslexia/disgraphia. The wrong words come out of my face sometimes.
The little slot on the generator backing plate is supposed to face down for airflow. Something tells me the generator was not mounted right on its backing plate.
I commend you for getting the whole system on; a lot of people just throw it away.
I’m 99% sure you’re right. Mounted down you get a Venturi effect that pulls cooler air into the genny. Any other way it will overheat. Also, that generator had worn through most of the contact plates under the brushes. It was nearly gone.
My 1959 bug is running a 1967 h Bloch 1500 that has been re judged and Pistons with 1600 aa kit due to a # 3 piston having a hole in it..motor was seized when I got it...I have remote oil cooler and filter system.filter in engine bay two coolers with fans in side car were back seat use to go....
Did you put on the 2 sheet metal babbles than clip onto the bottom of the cylinders - below the cylinders and above the push rod tubes? They are important. And you put them on before installing the cylinder heads. Otherwize you will have to remove the push rod tubes, put on the baffles, then put on 2-piece push rod tubes. I didn't see the baffles.
