Written to exalt the glory of God and to facilitate Lutheran worship, Johann Sebastian Bach’s sacred cantatas stand among the highest achievements of Western musical art. This acclaimed recording sees the works performed in their entirety by a stellar line-up of musicians that includes the renowned Holland Boys’ Choir and period-instrument ensemble Netherlands Bach Collegium.
Bach wrote about 300 sacred cantatas, of which 200 have survived. They have been widely recorded over the years, but Pieter van Leusink’s account remains one of the most acclaimed to date; created over a 15-month period and first released to mark the 250th anniversary of the composer’s death, this complete survey brims with spiritual expression.

Such a shame that rap hip hop and pop is so popular and this is only thousands of views . No Hollywood artist could hold a candle to even the singers.
What is amazing about hearing so many of these arias together is being able to marvel at the insanely high level of quality that Bach was able to achieve. I've always had my favorite twenty or so arias, but to listen to fifty in a row and realize that they are all great...well, it's just astounding.

His job in the church was to compose cantatas for EVERY Sunday services . Certainly he recycled some of his work but yes that was he was hired for . I think he did the job brilliantly 😊
the cantatas are all of bwv 1 through about bwv 200 so are easy to find and listen to all of them

Thanks Brilliant Classics for this impressive collection of arias for soprano by JS Bach. As is usual with Bach, the creativity and imagination is astounding. Within the baroque strictures of the form, Bach creates an immense variety of melodies and musical arrangements. As expected, violins, organ, oboes and flutes are often used to accompany the soprano's leading melody. Hearing one aria following another for five and a half hours does not become boring nor dull. This says something regarding the composer.
My hunch is that there was great joy in Papa Bach’s heart ❤️💕❤️

I recommend the aria at 04:04.20 mein Jesus kömmt. It is unbelievably beautiful and the instrumental accompaniment of oboe, flute and organ is literally celestial.

В опере сопрано, обычно, визжат и орут. А здесь Сопрано и оркестр ангельски воркуют! Арии - это практически колыбельные! Теперь только этот оркестр и это сопрано слушать могу.
