A single action revolver is so satisfying to learn how to work, like a manual transmission or a one pickup, one knob guitar. It helps you slow down and dig each moment of working the machine.

The first center fire hand gun I bought was the Blackhawk convertible 357/9mm with the 6.5 inch barrel. That was in 1979 I think...wish I still had it. I carried it as a companion gun while hunting or just rambling about in the woods. It's a great revolver, you'll love it.

First gun I ever shot was a ruger blackhawk my dad bought in the early 70’s for 75 dollars lol. He’s still got it. They are tanks and I have NEVER heard of one breaking or having any problems whatsoever. EDC??? No but a great survival tool for hunting in a small package.

Good choice. Have been thinking about picking up a convertible myself. 9mm is a lot cheaper these days than .38 or .357. Not sure if you know, modern. 38 Colt and .38 LC are not heeled and functions in modern revolvers. While more expensive than the .357 mag, it still gives you two more options to run through it. The .38 Colts are great for new shooters, no recoil and low noise. Oh, if you happen to spot .38 Colts on the shelf, make sure it is .38 Colt and not .38 S&W. .38S&W have a tappered case and depending on the revolver may not fit in the chamber. The Remington green and yellow box is identical to both .38 Colt and .38 S&W, so double check the caliber stamp on the box end. I've accidentally bought the .38S&Ws before, got lucky, they fit my SP101 and my H&R .357 handi rifle.

Bought my 4 5/8ths .357 blackhawk new in 1983. I cast my own bullets and have shot a bazillion .38 special class loads through it. 150 RCBS KT made from wheelweights over 3 grains bullseye powder = a ton of fun. Thanks for video and have fun.

I am getting back into more traditional firearms. I've had Blackhawks in the past. Ive just ordered a 4 5/8 convertable in .357/ 9mm in stainless. I know it will be a great gun teamed up with my Henry Big Boy rifle.

Yeah. I am getting back into the cowboy action guns myself. I honestly don't know why I ever traded the ones I had. Probably because I can't own all guns...but want to try as many as possible. Just picked up my 6th single action revolver today, put a 7th on layaway, and have a few more in mind. Something just so satisfying about the manual action of them.

I just picked up a (hardly) used stainless Vaquero in .357, man she is one sweet shooter too!
Great find, next on the list is the Blackhawk.

I have a 1968 black hawk in 41 mag. And it's one of my favorite handguns. I also like my 357 mag too..

Great vid! I have the same gun with a 6 1/2" bbl, lots of fun!
The Rough Rider, by the way, doesn't have a transfer bar, it has a hammer block (pretty much the opposite of a transfer bar).

I owned a Ruger Superblackhawk (.44 magnum) for awhile. I chose it to qualify for my first CCW and it was hilarious. Was fun but painful. Lol

Love the hat bro, and also have been wanting a Ruger Redhawk for some time, specifically the Ruger Redhawk 8-shot. The blackhawks are beautiful too

I too, have a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible chambered in .357, .38 spl, and 9mm. I call it….The Three in One Gun…lol. There is a Picatinny rail that you can put in place of the rear sight that allows you to put a micro red dot on it….mine has a Swampfox Kingslayer in bullseye reticle. Still a fun pistol to shoot.

Looks like it would make a decent hunting revolver for sure.

One thing I noticed about my .357/9mm Blackhawk/w 4⁵/⁸ barrel is that when I use the chronograph on the magnum rounds they match the speed of the 6" barreled S & W 686. Which was a nice surprise.
In my book it makes a very good hunting gun.

Looks like you were practicing the fast draw. That's the gun to use for the fast draw practice.
It's still dangerous for the inexperienced though.
I especially like the 9mm in the convertible. I like the case extraction with 9mm. Pushes the case all the way out. At least that's the way it is with the 4⁵/⁸ barrel.

If you don't have the convertible you can use 38 Colt cases for the same effect.

Hi Matt, I have same gun but don’t have the 9mm cylinder. I got mine for $500 from a friend. He put some pink fingernail polish on the front site which makes it really nice and visible. Great gun for sure!

How is the grip on it? Looks kinda small for a guy with a large hand? I held one at our local shop but the grip came up into my hand. I did see a website where you can order a larger grip. Your thoughts? thanks

    2 questions.
First, did you twirl it like a cowboy action shooter?
Second, did you fan the hammer like a cowboy action shooter?

I own the same gun, and find that it shoots .38's and .357's very accurately, however the 9mm's not so much. I am wondering if the 1/1000th difference in projectile diameter is the cause, or, possibly the fact that the 9mm sits farther back in the cylinder? Any ideas on that? Does your gun show the same results? Thanks.

I would like the same thing except with stag grips and stainless. Maybe the shorter barrel version. I think there's one with a barrel that's a little under 5".
As far as removing the spent cartridges, it is easy to remove cartridges regardless of caliber, right?

do you know what the difference is between the blackhawk and the blackhawk convertible? Im wondering if you just got the standard version if you could then buy the extra cylinder some time down the road if you wanted to, or if there is something different with the frame of the gun itself

    • @ddh158
      @ddh158 8 днів тому

The convertible comes with two cylinders and no I don't think you just buy a extra cylinder cause there fitted to the frame and have the gun serial number on them.

I have an Uberti SAA clone in .357 Shoots everything I load for it really well... The Uberti... it is far far closer to orginal than the Ruger. Big difference in looks and feel Three things that are a deal breaker with the ruger and others.... first... color case hardened frame... I need that.... then...no firing pin on the hammer... I need that... then one piece grip goodness. Ok... transfer bar? it is a safety you do not need to think about.. which is the best kind.... but to say the Colt company made a 5 shooter or at best a dangerous 6 shooter? uh....no... only in one John Wayne movie was that a thing. On the Colt and clones the first notch is..... oddly enough... the safety notch. It is very robust... in fact the most robust notch on the hammer and... when engaged the hammer is back maybe 1/8"or so...enough that the firng pin is in no way close to the primer in that cyl checking to see if the gun is safe is very easy the hammer will be back slightly... you can actually see this in some photos of the time most with captured guns being displayed and sti8ll loaded So why would anyone carry their '6hooter...now nutted to 5 rounds.... In the safety notch? They would not unless they thought loading 6 and using the factory safety was a good Idea.

Miro el video porque me gustan los revólveres de acción simple. Pero no entiendo nada de lo que dice porque no se inglés. Así que déjense de joder con ese idioma estamos en Sudamérica y no en Inglaterra o Estados Unidos.
