I'm a 76 year old living in Spain in retirement
and this piece with countless others of John
Barrys' tug at my heartstrings. I met him at a
party in 1968 in Maida Vale London and had
to be reminded who he was. John Smith

Saw him in 1960 when I was 11 years old. My mates mum took us to Stockton to see Adam Faith and the John Barry Seven. Absolutely love Barry's work and the music from " my favourite movie" Out of Africa is brilliant.

His musical genius known for it's ability to consume your every thought, at the same time kissing each nerve in your willing body as never before, it is more than sensuous. Each note warms your mind, body and soul as it seems to surpass the others. Climbing higher and higher through the clouds with no end in sight, lifting you into a breathless state, of an almost unforgotten love long passed, brought to mind as in life at it's end. Memories are wonderful. Thank you John Barry

Soaring strings, mellifluous horns, John Barry, composer supreme,
Superimposed over African landscapes, almost a surrealist dream.
The backdrop of mountains with rivers cascading as, sparkling, they fall into space
Can almost bring tears to the eye while detecting those plaintive heartbreaking displays
Of glorious sweeping, towering arpeggios, descriptive perfection is heard
To compliment exquisite, vast panoramas, as if through the eye of a bird.

Bud Garr you can love this type of music while keeping an open mind. Not all music has to be gorgeous and lush, but there’s a soundtrack to everything and not everything in life is romantic. Just a thought.
As a classical musician of many many years I’ve always loved modern music and it breaks my heart to see people dismiss one genre of music or another because they simply have not given it a chance, or are content to view it on the periphery of prejudice.

For myself this is greatest musical score I have ever heard, I never get tired of listening to it. It is deeply, deeply evocative and matched with visual form and story of Sydney Pollacks film "Out of Africa" - it is both heart breaking and inspiring. And it produced my favorite toast "to rose lipt maidens and light foot lads" If only to be young again...

That imposing, solitary, breathtaking beauty as wings traverse over the plain,
Enhanced by the glorious expansive melodic cadences in perfect refrain,
Give all who encountered this maestro’s artistry a genuine sense of emotion,
Which always enhances, increases the pleasure experienced beyond all proportion.
And though he is gone, his music lives on in our memories, always to treasure,
For which we give thanks to this Yorkshire lad whose genius has given such pleasure
