Pete is wise beyond his years - a true testament to learning from mistakes and evolving with time. His take on how he perceives other people's lives was really valuable. Thanks for uploading.
I remember when people on yt where literally making videos about Pete just for the fact that he admitted to using peds. We wouldn't be anywhere close to where we are now without him.
Pete is as real as it gets. I got coaching from him for a little over a year, and I’ve never experienced such a meticulous coach. Had the quickest gains of my life in that time. He’s got skill when it comes to knowing what to do to produce a result, and he’s a standup guy while doing it
Thanks Dave and Elitefts for all you guys do, Hopefully we can see Brandon Lilly and Possibly more former Animal Cage members and hopefully Josh Bryant !
Pete was such a big part of the RAW movement, I was such a fan of his content always; I was so excited when I saw this podcast happened, having watched it though it so exceeded expectations. Pete, you are a really good at timing conversations and knowing when to turn the questions back to Dave. You should consider having a podcast of your own to do interviews like this.
I wish dave would just invite all the guests from previous years and interview them again, because he got so much better at doing the podcast...he just flows with the questions, its so natural...he still add his own takes on some things or his stories but it makes the conversation go so wel...he doesnt repeats his own life like he used to do in some older episodes (sorry)
This one is my favourite of the lot. Pure love of the game from start to finish. What’s remarkable is how far apart the two era’s were, and yet the bridge crosses the divide. Loved it.
Me too Dave! It’s ridiculous when people say these lifts mean and or will mean nothing in the end. Its ignorant in the very least but then again very few people think the way hardcore lifters think it’s probably less than 1%. Ive had 6 months to live and next to needing my family constantly all’s I mostly thought about was will I be able to exercise tomorrow(couldn’t lift the bar for few months so it was just exercise for a minute) and will I ever be able to lift the bar again?!?! It drove me and it was my gauge for everything and I never stopped believing I would. And I did and this month 5 yrs cancer free and my lifts are the biggest they’ve ever been in my life.
This is peak. The identity crisis part is so real and applies to coming off, aswell as sickness, injuries and other shit life throws at you. So good to hear the mental side of this get covered more.
Great Episode! Refreshingly sincere from Pete! Great words of wisdom from a guy who's been on both sides of the fence. as a lifetime natty myself, It's inspiring to feel like I can still improve too.
Great info as usual, Dave! I know I’ve mentioned it before about the audio volume, but it bears repeating. Volume was great during intro (“where the underground still thrives…” part), and then drops a lot when the interview starts. After 1:50:00 after your commercials, it dropped significantly more, and I really had to crank the volume (when UA-cam commercials come on, it scares the bejeezus out of me). But thanks for doing these!
Pete was one of the most raw people in the fitness industry when it was extremely taboo to talk about gear and admit to using it. Another person that was similar was Bostin Loyd but he couldn’t reel in his addictions and it caught up to him
There's something about Pete that just draws you into everything he says. John Meadows had that same quality. When they speak, you listen. No wasted words.
As far as Pete talking about eating clean at 1:59:00 he's right, the only thing that matters is calorie intake, ideally in a high protein diet. "eating clean" is subjective, the way most people talk about it, but it doesn't have to be. All eating clean really means is eating whole, unprocessed foods. anybody can eat pretty much whatever they want as long as there is calorie in, calorie out and the food isn't laced with a pile of chemicals as you would find in a box of hungry man, a swanson TV dinner, a box of bagel bites or a lean cuisine. as long as you stay away from boxed groceries and sugary drinks, you'll be fine.
@@PeteRubish You have an incredibly likable personality. Other than your lifting exploits it’s probably opened a lot more doors than you realize. It’s a gift I’m many ways.
I didn’t realise Pete had succeeded in having a kid. Very happy to hear that. Even if you’ve accepted the health cost of using the drugs, I think everyone wants to be able to have kids and take care of them as long as you can.
Hey Pete . I was wondering what kind of back ext machine you have for doing your barbell back ext ? I want to buy one but want a good one . Hope to hear back thanks 💪
Pete, I'm surprised you aren't happy with 400 on test levels. Fatherhood and bad sleep really interrupts test levels, I know guys under 300 with no history of ped use.
I think Boston played a big role, at least was part of pulling the curtain back. I think at least recreational lifters just wanted to know the truth. Like ok that's why even though I tried I'm not strong or look like, the guys who are on
Yep, it's a whole different look completely. Road map veins are pretty rare on a natural guy unless he was down below 9% bodyfat. And you're not going to see the same shape as far as the 3d capped delts and huge traps and such.
This was fantastic. I competed against Pete years ago in WV. So at the time I was like "fuck him" Honestly, I'm not even sure we were in the same weight class now? Lmao I was at 220. I got him on the bench. Watching him warm up on deadlift, I was like "ohhh, that's whats different" lol Weights fucking flying. Violent. Way more hyped than myself. Didn't talk much, seems like a great guy. Same age. Relatable. Might have to take a road trip.
I think we all had that competitiveness back in the day, so I 100% get your mindset. I was a lot more standoffish back then due to the cycles and such. That was a fun meet though!
Nope. Everybody at the gym isn’t on something. 64. Natural. Why? The VA won’t let me get on anything. Sad face. However, I’m happy with my training, and if they let me take a little test as I age, all the better.
@@Jmack7861 Lucky you. I live in St. Louis and couldn’t get my primary care guy to. He keeps saying my natural levels are high enough. Perhaps I need to shop around different VA primary care docs here? Keep on lifting. All the best.
