This helped me immensely. I am a lazy player, and only for my own enjoyment for the most part. This gave me a kick, and was fun.... I grew up in Houston in the 70's, and every other song on the rock station was from ZZtop's first 3-4 albums. When they did Eliminator I was still along for the ride. They kind of lost me with the Sleeping Bag era, but it's all good. I've even met Billy face to face a couple of times. Once in a bar in my 20's, and then a restaurant in my 40's. Both times I could hardly speak correctly, lol. They were a HUGE influence on my playing, so that's why I am here.
Tim Pierce is an awesome teacher, his love for playing the instrument is so obvious, but the best thing for me is he has a way of teaching solos that make seem them much less daunting to attempt.
Tim isn't only a Session Master he is also a Lesson Master, I've been watching his vids the past 5 months or so and he has helped my playing massively. Thank you Tim and Marty
Beginner player here and had this down pretty quick. Love the way it was broke down so easily! Between Marty, Pappa-stache, and now Tim added to my arsenal...I will be busting some blues/rock before I know it!!! Really do appreciate these free lessons guys...thank you so much for taking the time to share your hard work and skills with us.
I've never seen his lessons before, I really enjoyed this. He's like a Bob Ross of guitar teaching! "You can work on that later... you can work on that now... it's up to you..." :)
Glad to see the respect for Billy. He has a pretty good musical history for those who think it is only as deep as ZZ Top. I got to hold a few of his guitars during a photo shoot at the Rockefellers in Houston many years ago. We lived in the same neighborhood though he is 12 years older.
I just want to thank you guys for all the hard work you have done on publishing these videos. I love to play the guitar and since I've been watching you guys, I am noticeably a better player! Keep up the good work! Rock On!!!
Marty I love you, and you're awesome. In this video I discovered that Tim is by far the best one of the best teachers I've seen online. Wow. His light commentary and very thorough description of the little nuances of his guitar playing is incredible. Thank you both for putting this together, I sincerely appreciate it.
I've been playing this wrong for sooo long. lol. Story of my life. At least I know enough to come here and take the time to learn it right. Thanks guys. You really helped!
@@sailirish7 Yeah any Billy Gibbons stuff can be tricky. I was actually talking about the riff right after the opening lick starting with the open low E. I wasn't doing it quite right. Now it sounds like the real deal when I play it the right way.
I don't think it could be taught any better fellas,, Thanks Guys ! It's Dec/24/17. Happy Holidays!!!! :) Marty/Tim ! You two guys made better guitar players out of so many people, I think there should be an award or some sort of recognition for all you guy's do ! You are great human beings! Bless you and all the others out there who share their knowledge with us,, we appreciate it very much,, :) &
These lessons are awesome - wanted to mention, if anyone else sucks at playing an open chord arpeggio backwards quickly like I do, there are other ways to play that lick at the end of the verse after the D7. From the live videos it looks like Billy Gibbons goes back up the neck for that part.
I am introducing 12-bar blues form to one of my beginning guitar students and he might be able to play this riff. The chord progression and phrase structure are a great example of 12-bar blues form!
+Keith Hallbourg thanks for the support, I'll be back better than every in 2016! In the meantime, please keep in touch with me at my official Facebook page here: facebook.com/MartySchwartzofficial/?ref=hl
Marty, man I love that Strat !! It's my custom shop dream build.. Fiesta Red body,Rosewood neck and Fender 'Texas Specials' pickups is what I'm planning to have Fender build me .....🎼. 👊😎 🎼
There is no key boards tabs So I’m watching.Hoping you could change cords on Guitar.Your doing an amazing job playing this tune. We’re learning the two ZZ Top song together Jesus just left Chicago and waiting for the bus
Merci Tim and Marty for this lesson , I realy love Billy's guitar style and Tres Hombres is one of my favorite whith Deguello.. Billy is also a "connaisseur" of ours White and red wines , a really good guy ! Jac from Toulouse
Excellent! What a really good teacher! Thank You Tim! Sorry Marty, you're really good too, but he's got you beat! He's just got something you'll have to wait for, a few more years/miles under his belt!
wicked awesome lesson gentlemen big ups our band is trying too learn this. Q... Could you please if possible do the other lead parts for the turn around into the lead ditty & the turn around into Jesus just left Chicago. Thanks for the lesson from New Zealand.
When playing the main part between the A and G on the D string, instead of using down strokes to play A A G, try a pull off to the G. Same when you move to the G string D D pulloff to C.
I think that the down strokes sounds so naturally becouse originally Billy plays it with thumb, so it is the down stroke. Nice lesson, I really appritiate your job.

yes, the early stuff is so cool then all that mtv sharp dressed man stuff....wow, I hated and still hate all that.
Tim Pierce is an awesome teacher, his love for playing the instrument is so obvious, but the best thing for me is he has a way of teaching solos that make seem them much less daunting to attempt.
Two of my favorite guitar teachers teaching one of my favorite songs. Idk how I've missed this one for so long.
Tim isn't only a Session Master he is also a Lesson Master, I've been watching his vids the past 5 months or so and he has helped my playing massively. Thank you Tim and Marty
jim jimm Ah thanks so much Jim!
Tim is to advanced lessons what Marty is to beginners./ early intermediate. both good teachers in their own way.
Tim Pierce is the Bob Ross of guitar lessons. I'm not sure how I can get that relaxed listen to such a kick arse riff.

Thanks for bringing Tim back, Marty! He's such a well spoken, intelligent guy.
