4:13 Ciega, Sordomuda (Blind, Deaf-Speechless) 8:54 Si Te Vas (If You Go) 13:15 Moscas en la Casa (Flies At Home) 16:32 no creo (I Don’t Believe) 19:43 inevitable 23:13 octavo día (eighth day) 27:00 que vuelvas (I want you to come back) 30:41 Tú (You) 34:12 Dónde Están los Ladrones? (Where Are The Thieves?) 37:53 sombra de Ti (Shadow Of You) 39:43 ojos asi (eyes like those)
This album is full of classic whole Latin America knows like Tú, Ojos Así, Ciega Sordomuda, Inevitable and more, however I get your point on how it can be repetitive, the loving a men theme is a very common on almost all her albums (except for She Wolf maybe) but is still interesting cause, spoiler, you’ll notice how her love life goes downhill and reborn again through her discography
The translation is just killing the vibe… this is Shakira’s best album, this is an album full of Shakira’s iconic classics, this is literally the Bible of Latin America, not just in Shakira’s repertoire but the entire Latin industry no joke 😂
This is her most popular album and some say her best, but honestly I think her best is Fijación Oral Vol. 1. Even Shakira has said she feels that's her Magnum Opus.
Omg!! After this album you have to react to the MTV unplugged Please please please!! It will blow your mind!! But do ti watching te video, it's just another level!
Sal, I understand your discomfort with the message in some of the songs, but you must consider the context, Shakira is Colombian and therefore was raised under the influence of a very strong Latin culture, and when it comes to Love it is all about the drama, the passion, the longing, the exaggerated heartache, the codependency. Shakira has defined herself as someone who is highly sensitive and exaggerates a lot in her songwritting because there is art and creative expression in it. @Sal is ok to be vulnerable sometimes and many of those feelings depicted by Shakira are also part of the early stages of breaking up with someone you deeply love, or you are obsessed about, someone you saw yourself growing old with and getting married to, etc. When Shakira wrote this album she was very young and had gone through a breakup with a famous actor from Latin America, several years older than her. We are living in an age in which people are replaceable. It is all about personal empowerment and the "You can have it all" narrative. It just wasn't like that at all in the 90s, early 2000's.
This is one of my favorite Shakira albums and I still remember the feeling of listening to it back in 1998 and being amazed. I definitely agree that lyrically can be a little too men-dependant, over the top needy, and i cringe at some lyrics now 😂. However, I think matches Shakira's mindset and mood at that time as a 20 year old who has always loved too hard too much (as she once said). Is interesting to see how she matures with her music and how her lyrics evolve, as well as her sounds. Listening to her albums you will see how her mindset changes over time on every level, talking about relationships, selflove, meaning of life, and even her religious and political views change in time. Now that I think about it listening to Shakira is definitely a ride, lol. My personal fave will always be Fijación Oral, vol 1. Keep keeping it real, is refreshing to see someone who speaks their feelings and actually cares about the music and it's meaning. Xo.
This music came out when I was a teenager and she was very young as well, and that's probably why the lyrics resonated a lot to angsty teenagers, lol. And the way she words things make the songs very unique. By the time she released Laundry Service she was heads over heels with a guy she dated for a decade and you'll notice the switch in sounds, themes and mood. But granted, many people prefer angry, sad, desolated, helpless Shakira, lol.
Shakira is a lyric genius, she always has ways to tell things that are only hers, she has a style of her own when expressing herself, you can see it in her music but also in her interviews, etc. She said in interviews for "¿Dónde están los ladrones?" that she likes anti-aesthetic aesthetics, the contrast of lofi vs hifi, the contrast of subtle and beautiful words vs grotesque words, etc. You can notice that throughout the whole album and in the cover. About the content of her music, she has said it's impossible for her not to write about love. I personally don't think she made those songs with the purpose of making people feel codependent or anything, those are just real feelings and thoughts we all have inside of us every now and then and we need a way to exorcise them out of us, if you just neglect them, you won't get over them; for her it's music what can help us get through them, singing those kinds of songs when you feel like that can be very helpful and healing. Also what's interesting about her songs is the way she can describe very specific feelings in very artistic and beautiful ways, always creative, always surprising, but also very very relatable and real at the same time. For example, codependency is not something we think of as good, yet that doesn't mean it's something that doesn't need to be talked about, you need to accept those emotions and express them in a positive way (which music is) for you to overcome them. Those songs were made for those moments of vulnerability, not meant to be your role model for life. Music and art in general, at least for me, doesn't always have to be about something I agree with or relate to, actually its power is that it can make you empathize with different emotions, situations, ideas, etc, make you understand them and heal and grow from them. These are pieces of art, not emotion and life coaching. Also, don't always take her songs as if they're for a man, I mean, most of them are about love but in many of them it's not specified that it is about a relationship, it could be for a loved one you lost or something like that. Actually some of these songs when you sing them in moments of grief just hit you very hard. Plus, this was released in the world of 1998, not in 2021, so you also have to take into account that the state of the world, the idiosyncrasies, everything was just different. That is not what music is about nowadays, not even Shakira's music. Also, you're not crazy about "Que Vuelvas", most of us Shakifans agree that it sounds very similar to "Estoy Aquí", fun fact when Shakira did the MTV Unplugged she performed all the songs from "¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?" except for that one and the only song that wasn't from that album that she performed was actually "Estoy Aquí".
I’m not sure if you already recorded the Laundry Service album reaction but I just want to mention some facts. Emilio Estefan wanted to make a compilation of Pies Descalzos/Donde Estan Los Ladrones? hits in english, which Shakira disagreed to, so she learned English quickly and wrote her first original song in english (Objection) with the help of a dictionary. However, they added an English version of “Ojos Así” that is bad imo. Also, starting from here you’ll get some song in both English and Spanish
I wouldn't say "Octavo día" is a pro-religion song. Something I love about Shakira, is that she doesn't get involved in that aspect. This is more of a political matter, where she portrays god as a normal person, and where she basically tries to give us a message about how we're controlled like pieces of a chess game by leaders who, in her own words, are lacking love. You should check out her live & off the record performance of the song and perhaps the meaning of the song will be more clear. It's also an amazing performance! Ps. Thank you for reacting to Shakira and being invested in checking out her discography from the beginning. Love your reactions, they're so honest and genuine! I appreciate it.
So excited! I really like this album and specifically, Ojos Asi. This is the moment in Shakira's career where she gets a little more grunge - the iconic red hair!
@@SalRocha Maybe after the album reactions you can jump in to her music videos. You' ll love Ojos Asi and Inevitable even more. both of these songs have english versions, Inevitable (English version) wasnt officially released but she did sing it twice in the USA, you can search Inevitable Live at the Rossie O Donnel show. She had a bit of a flu that day but still was a good performance, so if you would want to hear an official english version you can hear it there, she also sang it elsewhere with Melissa Etheridge, they sang Come To My Window / Inevitable. Ojos Asi is eye candy, Shakira and RED HOT LONG HAIR!!
Thank you for your honest reaction. As a native spanish speaker and super fan of Shakira I appreciate the effort you are doing to understand her spanish songs. I do agree with your comment about perhaps being a bit disconnected because of the translation barrier, as I feel that you focused too much on trying to translate the lyrics (from Google translation btw which is not great) at the same time as trying to listen to the songs. I noticed you got lost in translation a lot since many of the things Shakira says are metaphors that you btranslated literally. It is nice to have different opinions and everyone will connect different with music/songs. I feel this album is a masterpiece because it expresses different phases of love (obsession, dependence, heartbreak, disappointment, cheating), but it also touches base on other issues such as politics/corruption and society/religion. Shakira's writing is genius, she uses words and metaphors that most of us struggle to understand first time we listen. I always learn new words in spanish and in english with her songs 😂. Also, she has always shown us her real feelings in each album, and you'll see how she matures more as you discover her discography. I love all her albums, and I can't wait for your future reactions
Hey its ok you didn't find it to be the best so far, for me nothing beats Fijacion Oral vol 1. It's a masterpiece. The production, the sound, the lyrics, the maturity . It will blow your mind.
Correct. And the thing is, the artist made the album at a phase of her life where She was in love and heart broken. I do like that He makes it clear that he loves and appreciate denproduction, the lyrics, etc even though he doesnt like the context. And its ok. It's a classic album that brings good memories to those who were exactly at the age of being heart broken when the album came out.
Thank you for reaction this album Que Vuelvas is the only song I Don't like from this album it's Estoy Aqui 2 basically. But overall this album a majority of Shakira's Classic Spanish songs come from this album and I love a different sounds soundscape every song has the Middle Eastern Elements of Ojos Asi, The Marachi Elements of Ciega Sodamuda, the rock Elements of Si Te Vas, No Creo, Octavo Dia and Sombra De Ti and The Ballads all beautiful, the Acoustic Guitar and Bongo Drums of Moscas De La Casa and Orchestra symphonics of Tú. I love this album, I so happy you reacted to it.
Hey Sal I am loving so much your journey through the Latin goddess queen Shakira! Something that I have to point out is that the English translations of her lyrics don't make them justice. Shakira is a genius when it comes to compose raw poetry just from her own experiences, the cultural (colombian roots - daily people expressions) components of her Spanish lyrics are indeed the main ingredients of her songs than when translated make them loose a lot of their magic. This is an album that grows in you with time, when you get to listen to it a few times you definitely fall in love with it, at she would say is INEVITABLE, LOL! If you take close attention to its production and to the different colors of her voice matching her words and feelings makes you realize that this one is a masterpiece of pure raw art. Thank you so much for reacting to her! I strongly invite you to react to her live performances such as "Live and off the record" "Oral fixation tour" "Live from Paris" "EL Dorado" after you finish listening to her albums. She brings all her songs to a higher level by transforming the arrangements Live, dancing through them and connecting on stage with her fans. Her stage presence is out if this world! Big XO my friend! ❤🌈🤗💪🥰❤
@@SalRocha Great! That happened to me back in 1998 when the album came out! Hahahaha! Yes I am 1 year and 4 months older than Shakira, also Colombian living in NYC and a big fan of hers! LOL! This album grows in you with time, her music is very eclectic, she has her own lane which makes her so unique and original and also she's got a fantastic way to mix different genres, sounds and influences. You should also react to her MTV unplugged album and live performance she did back I 1999 in this one she elevates both albums "Pies Descalzos" and "Donde Estan los Ladrones" to the next level, she was praised so much for her vocals live on this MTV unplugged. It was EPIC! I am sure you will be able to appreciate her artistry much more and fall deeply in love with her by embarking also in her live performances and videography. XO! 💪💪💪❤❤❤
The fact that you recognized Estoy Aqui in Que vuelvas says a lot about your love for her music. This videos are weird and awesome because these songs are kind of an "intimate" Shakira legacy in latin america, and watching an American review it from an outside perspective is kind of strange. Although is really cool seeing someone recognizing her greatness from an outsider culture
its literally ok to write songs based on her raw human emotions that shes gone through, not every song needs to be a phoenix rising from the ashes anthem, I have no idea how that would take away from how good the song sounds to you. I think its obvious that shes not glorifying codependency and jealousy but rather writing about some of the hardest times shes been through and the most intense emotions shes had to work through and I think its beautiful since a lot of people can relate to feeling that way at one point or another. I think this is easily her best album sound wise, vocally, and lyrically- also she will never make a better song than Ojos Asi.
Great reaction Sal! Is going to get very interesting with the vocals from here ;) Please don’t skip on the MTV Unppluged as it was a breakthrough on her career also by the hand of Emilio Stephan, is a must where you’ll be able to experience Shakira’s genius production skills by delivering very different versions of her classics in a legendary performance for the Latin Culture.
I loooooooove this album its my second favourite after Fijación Oral vol.1. Its so funny because I'm from South Africa and when I first heard it I literally understood Jack and I still don't speak Spanish I'm just more familiar with the language than what I was. I love how you were like "si te vas is my favourite, then no Inevitable and it just kept changing. For some of the songs and not only this one, for PD as well, I would say that seeing the music videos (for example, no creo) or seeing her performing it live (octavo dia, tú) would help you gain a better understanding not only because of the visuals but also the emotion and passion she brings, it's just fascinating (Ojos Así) Also your Olivia Rodrigo comment at the beginning was hilarious.
And I have to say that Christina Aguilera WAS INSPIRED BY THIS ALBUM AND SHE ALWAYS SHOW HER CREDIT TO SHAKIRA SHE ALWAYS SAID THAT SHAKIRA IS HER FAVOURITE LATIN ARTIST AND THIS ALBUM INSPIRED CHRISTINA TO DO HER ALBUM MI REFLEJO IN 2000 ! AND HER FAVOURITE SONG OF THAT ALBUM IS "OJOS ASI" !
It's true this album promotes codependency but we have to understand the context. Today we are more realistic about love, in those days they were more idealistic, but although the meaning of the songs is not entirely positive, they are very ingenious lyrics for a 20-year-old girl. Spanish speakers respect her a lot as a composer, something in which she is not given much credit in the anglo market.
There’s a English version of inevitable if you want to listen to it and donde están los ladrones Shakira means about people who’s stealing your time, your love and at the end of the day they are gone with everything you had that’s the idea
So, next week I will be reacting to Laundry Service! However, I did just order the DVD of MTV Unplugged on eBay! So you can expect a reaction to the full video vs the CD at a later date!
@@SalRocha If i remember correctly the MTV Unplugged had english subtitles so you will not have trouble translating at least the behind the scenes. the documental part is so good to watch too
Hi Sal! So, "Que Vuelvas" does sound like "Estoy Aquí" and it's my least favorite from the album. Also, the music video reminds me SO MUCH of Alanis Morissette's "You Learn". You can check it out on your own and let me know if you feel the same lol. Idk, I feel like her record label at that time was trying to mold her into another Alanis :( they're both so different and deserve all the praise in the world.
@@SalRocha Oop! I got that info wrong lmao. The music video I'm talking about is from the song "No Creo". Either way, you should check it out some other time :)
I loved this album. So many memories! Shakira’s luggage was stolen at the airport. Her lyrics were in the luggage so she had to rewrite the album, hence the title. She once explained that her hands are dirty because in one way or another we are all thieves (of property, ideas, energy, love, etc.) btw, I like the haircut!
There were just five singles, Ciega Sordomuda, Tú, No Creo, Inevitable and Ojos Así. Si Te Vas and Donde Están Los Ladrones were radio singles over Colombia and Mexico with not that much promotion but Si Te Vas became another HUGE HIT for her without any video or promo. In 2000 “Moscas en la Casa” and “No Creo” were released as singles for her MTV Unplugged. Even though not all the tracks were released as singles, all the album became very popular all over Latin America even “Octavo Dia”, “Sombra de Ti” and “Que Vuelvas” became famous tracks here.
Hey Sal, I’m having so much fun going through Shakira’s discography with you! It’s so interesting to see your interpretation of the lyrics from a young American boy point of view. By the time pies descalzos was released I was a 9 yo Colombian kid. And I was 13 when donde estan los ladrones was released. As a kid I loved both albums but never paid attention to the lyrics. I wasn’t even able to empathize with them. But I loved the music, her voice, the guitars, drums, etc. Today I’m 35 and went through a real bad break up for the very first time in my life. And is also the very first time I’m connecting with Shakira’s lyrics from her different albums. She really describes very well how you feel when you are deep in love with someone and what you feel after breaking up with that person. As per today and a few months later after my break up, I’m totally feeling Shakira’s she wolf (lol) Watching at your reaction and not being able to connect with the lyrics I think it has much to do with the time those songs were released and the fact of Shakira being Latin American and living the love drama our music went through by that time. Also the cultural context of a religious society where you have to devote yourself to the person you love. Anyways, I look forward to watching your reaction to el dorado, which I’ll do in a little while. Peace ✌️
It should be pointed out that Shak was 19 when he began to write and produce the songs for this album, it is excellent from start to finish, by the way, on September 29 it will be 23 years old. thanks for reacting to Shaki.
This particular album is UNTOUCHABLE. One fact about this album is the fact that she got stolen her suitcase 🧳 at the airport where she had all the songs she wrote ✍🏼 for this album 💿 and that’s where she got this tittle “Where are the thieves” so she had to memorize all the songs and melody to recreate this legendary 💿 album which became Shakira’s signature album full of classics… “Ojos Asi” was the beginning of Shakira showing the world her Lebanese culture and her iconic belly dance moves which this song became legendary and there’s no way she can’t perform this song in her concerts, it also became Shakira’s “Iluminati” 🧿 song, people started finding “diabolical” hidden messages behind this song, and on top that she released “Octavo Dia” where it caused a huge controversy from all the Christians, Catholics etc when they thought shakira was going against God, laughing at him … it really took time for people to accept this song and it’s true meaning. I mean can go on and on but this album is just a masterpiece. 💞
This is the bible of Latin pop, one of Shakira's iconic albums. In Latin America it was for everywhere, it is an album with which you do not have to pass any song, completely good.
Remember that most of the songs and music of the 80s 90s were ballads, love songs, a source of inspiration for her, Shakira is an excellent balladeer. Also female empowerment was not as much as it is today. That is why with each album you will hear a different Shakira, more mature and not repeating the same formula as her previous albums.
As far as I'm concerned the fact that she was related to Alanis is something that it was talked about only in the 90's so is something that only hardcore fans of Shakira knows or remember this. For you knowing this, means to me that you really do a decent research of the album and artists you try to discover. And as a viewer I really like that :) Also relating songs that sounds familiar like "Estoy Aqui" and "Que Vuelvas", means that you actually take your time to appreciate them and capture the music. If I would do this, probably would only listened them once, made a reaction of my first impression but eventually forgotten them. So I also admire your effort, or maybe you good music ears :)
It's funny you bring this up. I find that most reactors on UA-cam seem to listen to something once, edit and upload the video and never even listen to the album/song again. Granted, I have some here and there where if I didn't really like it I didn't listen to it much afterwards. My whole point of this channel is to experience new music and grow more familiar with the artists I love/care so deeply about.
great reaction this was my fave from her until the fixations came out and I never thought about it in the way you're describing it but I guess you're right it feels a little bit dramatic but hey that's the shakira a lot of people love lol, btw the 3 random persons she mentions in "octavo dia" 24:49 is a reference to somewhat figures of power by we would have to change God for if he abandon us, Michael Jackson (the king of pop), Bill Clinton (at the time commander in chief of the most powerful nation in the world) and tarzan (the king of the jungle)
I think the theme of the album is that love is blind and sometimes you think you can't breathe or ever be without that person (which isn't the truth). The beauty of this album is her metaphors and analogies. They're refreshing. I love this album. "Si te vas" seems to be directed towards a person who knows, doesn't care and does the most to make sure you know that your significant one is cheating on you with them. "Octavo Dia" is more political if you see the rocks she throws at the elite or those in power. Great reaction!
This album is in my top 3 (first are Christina Aguilera's Stripped and Back To Basics) My least favourite is Que Vuelvas, I agree that sounds like Estoy Aquí I laughed with your comment about Si Te Vas: the anger from Scorpio and the deepness of Cancer. Well, she's aquarius Ojos Así has influences from her libanese heritage. Amazing song
Continue reacting her albums please!!! I enjoying your opinions, but i have to say that this album is her best, it still is playing on the radios on the mind of the latin american people, it is a master piece 😎
To me, her best album is Oral Fixation Vol. 2. Maybe because I connect with it more than with any other Shakira's album... I mean, that's why she is the queen of music, because she's the most versatile artist in pop history... because she has music for everybody... for the ones who love so deeply and love to be sad all the time, for the ones who love to be sexy, for the ones (like me) who love protest songs... so don't feel bad, every Shakira's album is the best depending on how you feel. As a very personal experience I can tell you that when She wolf came out I really hated it because I was a teenager who refused sensuality but when I meet the nightclubs in my early 20s She wolf became an anthem to me... nowadays I'm really in the Shakira's self-titled album mood... so there's Shakira for everyone and for every moment of our lives.
You’re beating yourself up over the expected reaction from people 😂 It’s alright; I was one of the people that expressed preference for DELL. I loved it for the sonically evolved nature from the previous albums, the amazing lyrical content (the lyrics translation DOES NOT DO JUSTICE), and her ability to emote across language barriers. This was a HUGE album for her, and the one that cemented her iconic-level stardom in the Latin/Hispanic world long before she crossed into the English market. Think Taylor Swift, but with a grungy edge. A lot of sentimentality is tied to this specific album. I love it because it was the soundtrack of my childhood-the songs were EVERYWHERE. You’ll find that Shakira is very much a submissive romantic in her lyrics, and usually writes in that perspective-but with a cutting edge that’s hard to translate into English because it’s in her delivery, her voice, and the subliminal messaging in her words. It’s only later on that she plays with different perspectives-like the one you prefer, “the independent, modern woman” trope. But many people flocked to her because her lyrics spoke to them of the chaotic, conflicting and destructive forces of love. Anyways, long story short-looking forward to the next one on your Shakira journey! Maybe you’ll better enjoy the next one.
Fact: with this album she was name biggest rockera (rocker girl ) in the 90s just at 21 years old. Also with this album she became the 2nd best selling Latin female artist only behind Gloria Estefan.
Sal como dato curioso, el título del álbum va un poco sobre que en esa época mientras Shakira trabajaba en el album unos ladorenes robaron sus canciones, saludos 😜✌🏻
@@SalRocha it happend on an airport. Somebody stole the case in wich she had the written lyrics for the album, so she had to re write them again. that's the reason for de albums name.
Where Are The Thieves came about because she had been writing songs for a new album but her briefcase or bag that had all the songs she had written was stolen at the airport. So the inspiration comes from that. I largely considered this her best album of her career but then she came out with Fijacion Oral vol. 1. I think you’ll find quite a few hardcore fans like myself that consider Fijacion is her best. That album is Shakira at her peak. Natural in every sense even her look. Fijacion is genius.
@@SalRocha The singer is Fey, and the album is "Tierna la noche", which translates to "Tender night" or "The night is tender". It's 90s, mexican dance-pop.
I am looking forward to the other reactions. Do not skip the MTV Unplugged please 🙏🏻 it is a simple acoustic presentation but with a lot of feeling, different musical genres and good vocal range by Shakira 👏🏻 My favorites from "Dónde están los ladrones" are: Tú, Inevitable and Si te vas Curious Dator of the album: the name comes from a personal experience of Shakira, some people stole a briefcase and where she carried all her written songs! the robbery was at an airport. For the song "Octavo Día" Shakira received a lot of criticism from the people because the song basically talks about God leaving and "abandoning" us and since then human beings have done what they want, and everything is chaos on earth, war, death , hunger etc. Later you will see Shakira singing this song live and you will see the great message that it shows 🙌🏻
I have so many things to say ok first of all you look super handsome with that haircut 😉 ♥ ️ about the album, the art (the music) is subjective, that is, everyone perceives it as they feel it. In short we all have different tastes and when they say out there "for different tastes there are different colors" It is completely understandable that you did not understand the lyrics of some songs well, Shakira usually uses a metaphorical and complex language in some of her songs, even to me that my Spanish is native, I find it difficult to understand sometimes 😅 but I realized that you liked the album and I'm glad for that ♥ ️
Gonna tell you why People say this is her best album. Latinos we are so dramatic when we end a relationship, so we feel really destroyed by the moment, and whe actually feel we are desolated without the person who's leaving, it's a perfect album you have a broken heart, the rest of the albums in her discovery, has more things to say, more fun, another kind of things. I've been fan of her for 22 years now and my fav album is oral fixation vol 2. I even think that fijacion oral vol 1 is her best Spanish album. Anyway she es so much more than sad songs, sad songs that we only understand, empathize with when we are sad.
11.- Inevitable For me this is the Best album from her
You must be the ONLY person in the world to make a negative comment on this album, literally the the only one. The problem is that you are judging 90's lyrics from a 2021 person's perspective. But it was an interesting and good reaction
Shakira's lyrics in the 90s are a little more about feeling like a loser, disappointment, anger and love obsession. Many songs at that time were like that, they showed the weaknesses of each artist to a very intense point, but then Shakira joined the trend of more "empowered" music, what at the same time fell into repetitive and superficial messages about being sexy, move her ass and that hahaha but I think you don't need to connect at all with any lyrics, these songs are catchy and have a good vibe after all
I kinda get your frustration with the lyrics but like..haven't you felt heartbroken before? It...doesn't always end up with people feeling their strongest/most empowered. It's a heartbreak album.
Like yeah, sometimes you fall in love and for a time...you *are* dependent, to a certain extent. It's not empowering but it's honest, and it happens to most people.
Don't mean to sound too critical I guess, I def appreciate you being honest about how you feel, it's better than you just praising everything for the sake of not wanting negative comments. I guess I just feel this album so close to my heart that I got a little defensive watching at points heh
@@SalRocha "Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. In rhetoric, it is also sometimes known as auxesis (literally 'growth'). In poetry and oratory, it emphasizes, evokes strong feelings, and creates strong impressions. As a figure of speech, it is usually not meant to be taken literally" Just like I'm sure you don't think she is literally giving her sighs to someone, locking them in a room, or seeing a river of salt in a desert, or that the sky is literally tired of watching the rain fall...well, I'm sure you get the point. Different strokes for different folks I guess
Baby, you should see an entire live concert, You will love it! I promise you will enjoy!!.. You could star with tour of the mangoose, they are already uploaded in UA-cam🔥❤️
In Octavo Día, when she mentions Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Tarzan, it's not just random people. It's a reference to "the weight of the crown." President of the US, king of pop, and king of the jungle. 👑
As latins, we grow up with these intense codependant love songs, but its not like we necesarely see relationships that way, its just the way we traditionally perceive romance IMO. But I agree, she was criticized because of that at one point.
I agree that the lyrics depict a very pessimistic, toxic and even sexist idea of romance/love... But this album was released 23 years ago! Unfortunately that was the norm back then, and pop charts were packed with lyrics like these... What I'm trying to say is that it's unfair to judge a song/movie/book from a different time with the lenses of today 🤓
Hi Sal. If you are into pop music. Please react to Adam Ant’s discography. Studio Albums order: 1. Dirk Wears White Sox 2. Kings Of The Wild Frontier 3. Prince Charming 4. Friend Or Foe 5. Strip 6. Vive Le Rock 7. Manners And Physique 8. Wonderful 9. Adam Ant Is The Blueback Hussar In Marrying The Gunner’s Daughter I beg of you Sal, take my word for it. You won’t regret it.
I think you should understand even better the lyrics of this production if you look at it from its contexts. Latin American production, 90’s , very conservative society and that’s why is very common to see this kind of lyrics that are very passionate but at the same time with some sort of “sexism”.
The reason it doesn't mean that much to you is because you don't understand the art of Spanish lyrics. even if you read the translation, it is different. her lyrics are cleverly written by her in this album
This album has so many good songs that there is not one I don't like... from this album was born the iconic song "ojos así" with which Shakira showed her talent for belly dancing. A very famous song in Latin America and very representative of Shakira that pays tribute to her ancestors as she is a descendant of Lebanese.... also sings verses in Arabic which makes it more iconic🥰 Can't wait to see this reaction!
@@SalRocha The English translation definitely does not do her justice. We must understand that she was a teenager at that time and in her music she expressed her failed relationships, her opinions about politics, society and religion. But I insist that in the English translation the essence of the songs is lost, it confuses and can even change the meaning they have. An important fact is that she named the album "Dónde están los ladrones" (Where are the thieves?) because of a bad situation she experienced when her luggage was stolen at an airport. In those suitcases she had her notebook where she wrote her songs, songs she was preparing for her new album. Those suitcases she never got them back so she had to start all over again and so she created this album....me wonder "what would have happened if those suitcases hadn't been stolen?" Probably the story today would be very different. I hope you react to the music videos and her live performances!

I'm excited to hear the rest of the albums!

The translation is just killing the vibe… this is Shakira’s best album, this is an album full of Shakira’s iconic classics, this is literally the Bible of Latin America, not just in Shakira’s repertoire but the entire Latin industry no joke 😂
Thanks for sharing Antonio!
This is her most popular album and some say her best, but honestly I think her best is Fijación Oral Vol. 1. Even Shakira has said she feels that's her Magnum Opus.
Most popular for old fans maybe. Defined Fijación Oral is one of her best
I'm excited to listen to that one!
Omg!! After this album you have to react to the MTV unplugged Please please please!! It will blow your mind!! But do ti watching te video, it's just another level!
I'm planning to react to the DVD of MTV Unplugged!
Thanks for sharing!
There's nothing wrong in being vulnerable, or insecure when we are in love especially at young age.
Cool!
Exactly!
PERIODT
Xo.
Thank you so much for all the kind words Mariale!!
Thanks for that info!
I love both albums! “Te dejo Madrid” is always a nostalgic gem 🔥🖤
Don’t feel bad. Your honesty is gold. Shakira was honest to what she was going thru at a young age. Latin American culture is dramatic too.
We Indians are dramatic too... Something I find common between Latin America n India 😂
Thank you!
Thanks for all this lovely information!
I'm filming it tomorrow! Thanks for the tidbits of info!
“Eyes like yours” is not bad, but is not better than “Ojos Así”
So glad you are enjoying! Thank you so much for the kind words :)
So excited! I really like this album and specifically, Ojos Asi. This is the moment in Shakira's career where she gets a little more grunge - the iconic red hair!
We stan red hair!
Thanks for sharing Robinson! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos!
I'm excited to listen to that album soon!
Thank you for reaction this album
Que Vuelvas is the only song I Don't like from this album it's Estoy Aqui 2 basically.
I'm happy you're happy I reacted to it!
So glad you're enjoying the journey so far! I've found that repeat listens have helped me find enjoyment out of this album so much more!
Thanks for sharing Andres!
its literally ok to write songs based on her raw human emotions that shes gone through, not every song needs to be a phoenix rising from the ashes anthem, I have no idea how that would take away from how good the song sounds to you.
Thanks for sharing!
Great reaction Sal! Is going to get very interesting with the vocals from here ;)
Please don’t skip on the MTV Unppluged as it was a breakthrough on her career also by the hand of Emilio Stephan, is a must where you’ll be able to experience Shakira’s genius production skills by delivering very different versions of her classics in a legendary performance for the Latin Culture.
Went to the comments, saw you ordered it. Looking forward!
Fear not! We will react to MTV unplugged but sometime after Laundry Service!
For some of the songs and not only this one, for PD as well, I would say that seeing the music videos (for example, no creo) or seeing her performing it live (octavo dia, tú) would help you gain a better understanding not only because of the visuals but also the emotion and passion she brings, it's just fascinating (Ojos Así)
Also your Olivia Rodrigo comment at the beginning was hilarious.
Thank you ever so much!
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing!
There’s a English version of inevitable if you want to listen to it and donde están los ladrones Shakira means about people who’s stealing your time, your love and at the end of the day they are gone with everything you had that’s the idea
I'll check it out!
You have to react to Shakira MTV Unplugged music videos after this. It's a must, trust me, every fan will apreciate it
So, next week I will be reacting to Laundry Service! However, I did just order the DVD of MTV Unplugged on eBay! So you can expect a reaction to the full video vs the CD at a later date!
@@SalRocha If i remember correctly the MTV Unplugged had english subtitles so you will not have trouble translating at least the behind the scenes. the documental part is so good to watch too
As a long time fan, in my opinion this is not even top 3 of her best album, but for old fans is so nostalgic that they consider it her best

Fijación Oral y Oral Fixation (original version) are even better than Donde estan los ladrones?
Whilst not her best album, this is by far my favorite. So many childhood memories attached to many of these songs. A true classic in Latin America!

Interesting!
@@SalRocha Oop! I got that info wrong lmao. The music video I'm talking about is from the song "No Creo". Either way, you should check it out some other time :)
An amazing album! Probably my favorite by Shakira 👌🏾❤️
Awesome!
I wanna think of this one as her master piece 🥰 and kudos on the pronunciation of her album names!
Thanks Alex!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing!
Hey Sal,
I’m having so much fun going through Shakira’s discography with you!
As per today and a few months later after my break up, I’m totally feeling Shakira’s she wolf (lol)
Watching at your reaction and not being able to connect with the lyrics I think it has much to do with the time those songs were released and the fact of Shakira being Latin American and living the love drama our music went through by that time. Also the cultural context of a religious society where you have to devote yourself to the person you love.
Anyways, I look forward to watching your reaction to el dorado, which I’ll do in a little while.
Peace ✌️
Thanks for the lovely words Juan!
It should be pointed out that Shak was 19 when he began to write and produce the songs for this album, it is excellent from start to finish, by the way, on September 29 it will be 23 years old. thanks for reacting to Shaki.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for all that info!
Thanks for sharing Andres!
Good Job. I hope to see your reaction to Shakira's new album. When she decides to launch it on the market.

Thanks for sharing Enrigue!
Octavo dia is extremely underated
Such a powerful song
I think the theme of the album is that love is blind and sometimes you think you can't breathe or ever be without that person (which isn't the truth). The beauty of this album is her metaphors and analogies. They're refreshing. I love this album. "Si te vas" seems to be directed towards a person who knows, doesn't care and does the most to make sure you know that your significant one is cheating on you with them. "Octavo Dia" is more political if you see the rocks she throws at the elite or those in power. Great reaction!

Ojos Así has influences from her libanese heritage. Amazing song

The live version for "Tú" is AWESOME (The one from MTV Unplugged or Live & Off The Record)
Okay!
Thanks for sharing Diego!
You’re beating yourself up over the expected reaction from people 😂
It’s alright; I was one of the people that expressed preference for DELL.
Thanks for sharing!
Fact: with this album she was name biggest rockera (rocker girl ) in the 90s just at 21 years old. Also with this album she became the 2nd best selling Latin female artist only behind Gloria Estefan.

Damn!
Where Are The Thieves came about because she had been writing songs for a new album but her briefcase or bag that had all the songs she had written was stolen at the airport. So the inspiration comes from that. I largely considered this her best album of her career but then she came out with Fijacion Oral vol. 1. I am looking forward to the other reactions. Do not skip the MTV Unplugged please 🙏🏻 it is a simple acoustic presentation but with a lot of feeling, different musical genres and good vocal range by Shakira 👏🏻
My favorites from "Dónde están los ladrones" are: Tú, Inevitable and Si te vas
Curious Dator of the album: the name comes from a personal experience of Shakira, some people stole a briefcase and where she carried all her written songs! the robbery was at an airport.
For the song "Octavo Día" Shakira received a lot of criticism from the people because the song basically talks about God leaving and "abandoning" us and since then human beings have done what they want, and everything is chaos on earth, war, death , hunger etc. Later you will see Shakira singing this song live and you will see the great message that it shows 🙌🏻
Thanks for sharing Juan! I plan to react to the DVD of MTV Unplugged!
I have so many things to say
ok first of all you look super handsome with that haircut 😉 ♥ ️
about the album, the art (the music) is subjective, that is, everyone perceives it as they feel it. In short we all have different tastes and when they say out there "for different tastes there are different colors"
It is completely understandable that you did not understand the lyrics of some songs well, Shakira usually uses a metaphorical and complex language in some of her songs, even to me that my Spanish is native, I find it difficult to understand sometimes 😅 but I realized that you liked the album and I'm glad for that ♥ ️
So glad you enjoyed and thank you for the kind words Juan!
Thanks for sharing Asilo!
Shakira is so metaphorical, that's why you try to understand some songs titles that sound weird for you.
Gotcha
There is actually an English version to Inevitable.
I gotta check that out!
My personal top
1.- Ciega sordomuda
2.- Ojos así
3.- No creo
4.- Que vuelvas
5.- Tú
6.- Si te vas
7.- Sombra de tí
8.- Moscas en la casa
9.- Octavo día
10.- Dónde están los ladrones?
11.- Inevitable
For me this is the Best album from her
Thanks for sharing!
You must be the ONLY person in the world to make a negative comment on this album, literally the the only one. The problem is that you are judging 90's lyrics from a 2021 person's perspective. But it was an interesting and good reaction
I was just born to be different!
you have to keep on your mind that it was 1998 and she was just a 20yo latina girl, she sang a lot about love and dependence of a loved one
Yes
The best album everrrrr
A mighty statement to make Leandro!
Shakira's lyrics in the 90s are a little more about feeling like a loser, disappointment, anger and love obsession. Many songs at that time were like that, they showed the weaknesses of each artist to a very intense point, but then Shakira joined the trend of more "empowered" music, what at the same time fell into repetitive and superficial messages about being sexy, move her ass and that hahaha
but I think you don't need to connect at all with any lyrics, these songs are catchy and have a good vibe after all
Amen
I've been heartbroken but I haven't been in the position of feeling like my life has no meaning because I don't have a significant other.
As a figure of speech, it is usually not meant to be taken literally"
Just like I'm sure you don't think she is literally giving her sighs to someone, locking them in a room, or seeing a river of salt in a desert, or that the sky is literally tired of watching the rain fall...well, I'm sure you get the point. Different strokes for different folks I guess
@@SalRocha the shakiras song are not literal what?, I think Is cultural shock because latín culture Is very "apasionada" idk how to say english
The album’s title is inspired by Shakira getting her luggage stolen during a trip to Bogotá, which had most of the material for her next album.
Those damn thieves!
Baby, you should see an entire live concert, You will love it! I promise you will enjoy!!.. You could star with tour of the mangoose, they are already uploaded in UA-cam🔥❤️
I will check it out
Hey bae once u r all done going thru all her discography
U must react to her live performances tours
She will blow ur mind off 😙🙌
Noted Danny!
A fun fact: Sombra de Ti (Shadow of You) is Shakira's favorite song of her whole career.
Cool!
She sang a little part of Ojos Así in the Súper Bowl when she was bellydancing with the rope
I’ve sense come to realize that! 💕❤️💕
Este album me recuerda cuando iba a la escuela y en todos lados ponian estas canciones
Por la nostalgia querido!
You should've had the dirty hands! lol
LOL
WE WANT THE COVER OF SHAKIRA IN YOUR ROOM POST PLIS OF THIS ALBUM!!!!✌🏼 IS THE BEST ALBUM OF SHAKIRA!!!!
Once the journey ends you will see her on the wall!
In Octavo Día, when she mentions Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Tarzan, it's not just random people. It's a reference to "the weight of the crown." President of the US, king of pop, and king of the jungle. 👑
Cool
EL MEJOR ÁLBUM DE SHAKIRA 🌻🌺
Estoy contenta de que te guste
As latins, we grow up with these intense codependant love songs, but its not like we necesarely see relationships that way, its just the way we traditionally perceive romance IMO. But I agree, she was criticized because of that at one point.
Great!
That's true!
i wanna see the picture of shakira s Album in your wall
Once the journey ends you will!
@@SalRocha thank you 😍
Love u from Morocco 🇲🇦
That album is my safe place xd
Love that for you!

"Que vuelvas" is definitely the same structure as "Estoy aquí". I noticed that when I was 8 years old. 🤣
It's crazy!
I would love a Shakira musical.
That would be awesome!
Hi Sal.
If you are into pop music.
Please react to Adam Ant’s discography.
Studio Albums order:
1. Dirk Wears White Sox
2. Kings Of The Wild Frontier
3. Prince Charming
4. Friend Or Foe
5. Strip
6. Vive Le Rock
7. Manners And Physique
8. Wonderful
9. Adam Ant Is The Blueback Hussar In Marrying The Gunner’s Daughter
I beg of you Sal, take my word for it. You won’t regret it.
Maybe, one day.
I think you should understand even better the lyrics of this production if you look at it from its contexts. Latin American production, 90’s , very conservative society and that’s why is very common to see this kind of lyrics that are very passionate but at the same time with some sort of “sexism”.
Thanks for sharing David!
The reason it doesn't mean that much to you is because you don't understand the art of Spanish lyrics. even if you read the translation, it is different. her lyrics are cleverly written by her in this album
Yes!
@@SalRocha ☺️
@@SalRocha react to "No" live. Amazing
No conozco a mi amigo. Nunca me sentí como ella se siente en estas letras. ¡Quizás sea porque soy un escorpión!
I though que vuelvas sounded exactly like no creo 😭
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!!

@@SalRocha oh cool. Your reactions are so genuine. Keep up the good work !
@@andresruiz4401 thank you very much ❤️💕❤️
@@SalRocha your welcome guapo
This album has so many good songs that there is not one I don't like... from this album was born the iconic song "ojos así" with which Shakira showed her talent for belly dancing. A very famous song in Latin America and very representative of Shakira that pays tribute to her ancestors as she is a descendant of Lebanese.... also sings verses in Arabic which makes it more iconic🥰
Can't wait to see this reaction!
Thanks for sharing! I hope you enjoyed!
I'm not sure if trying to analyze the lyrics from a superficial feminist perspective is the best idea in order to understand them...
Totalmente
That very well could be
