SISTER MICHAEL IS OUR LADY AND SAVIOUR
She’s fantastic!!
Amen praise sister Mary Micheal. 🤣😍
@@Budgies00001 spoiler alert:
Her name is George Micheal.
Oops I'm Irish I get a pass 🤣
Amen
I met someone from Derry and she said that the show Derry girls changed the way people see Northern Ireland. P.s. Derry has a huge mural of the girls in the town
That’s so cool
that's so cool, i didn't know that!
I added it to my travel wish list after that show ❤
@@magivasileva7153don’t go there if you’re not white !
What people the southern republican Irish? Because we see them just the same 😂
Orla is definitely my favourite, she's an absolute legend. But, as someone from Derry, Michelle is the most accurate Derry Girl.
Nice!! Haha we loved orla too
Same she is both an idiot and amazing ha
I'm from Galway, and Michelle was accurate for me in the 90s lol. Cross border Michelleness
I grew up in the 90's in Norway, and I definitely knew several Michelles.
To be fair Michelle is from Derry
derry girls is literally one of my favorite shows ever and seeing Nicola Coughlan go from Clare to Penelope Featherington was the cutest transition between my two fave shows
And back again.
definitely think it’s got a claim as one of best comedy series in recent years if not forever. Excellently written and i think anyone who grown up in a Catholic/Celtic household can relate
Me too as a person from Galway. Go Nicola!
Agreed!!!
Claire really said: it's me, hi, I'm the wee lesbian, it's me.
🤣🤣
Joe putting his hand on Gerry's shoulder always brings a wee tear to my eye - as much as they bicker, they are family and comfort each other in hard times. I also love the juxtaposition of the girls having fun and the adults finding out horrible news. They do something similar in the next season when the girls are fighting and the adults are reacting to happy news.
It’s so powerful
‘Derry Girls’ is one of the best written shows out there and I’m so sad I was not regular with my watching habits.
I live in Northern Ireland and work in the film industry and this is one of our proudest masterpieces (besides maybe game of thrones at titanic studios in Belfast). These women are so talented and their accents are on POINT, which is very difficult to achieve. They also raise so much awareness on the political issues that unfortunately still prevail over here, but they do it in a very clever, hilarious, disarming way.
So happy you guys reacted to this, I never clicked so fast on a video in my life 😂 ❤
This really is such an amazing and entertaining way to educate people on something they might not have known about!
It's a british show
Careful who you say that to 👀 literally the conflict that is the premise of this show @@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek??? Its an Irish show. Written by an Irish woman who grew up in Derry City. Played by 99% Irish actors. 💚🤍🧡
@@happydaze7976 Northern Irish is Irish and british. Producers and company is british and like i said Northern Ireland is in the UK.
I loved the way they portrayed Erin's reaction to Claire coming out. It was relatable to me. Often people are on board with a sort of distant idea of gay rights instead of *truly* supporting gay people, and when one of their loved ones come out, they act like complete morons. As a lesbian, I remember some of my straight friends hugging me less and stuff after I came out in high school, because they thought I was/would become interested in them... Losing a lot of that casual physical affection a lot of girl friendships have was really painful to me. These were all friends who said they supported LGBT+ rights too.
On a lighter note, I loved your reaction!! Comedy shows don't usually hit the spot for me but I love Derry Girls. I especially adore the exaggerated facial expressions, particularly on Erin 😭😭
Yepp, As a gay man I know how that feels, and it’s sucks. We both loved how supportive everyone was if Claire even if it was an awkward start haha such a great show!
I just loved how Claire didn't back down even when Erin started acting like a moron - I always thought she looked really pretty in that scene, she seemed happy in a way that was giving a glow to her - and I loved her response to Erin's "You fancy girls?" "Well that's sort of an entry level requirement. "
Derry girls is such an underrated show!!!❤❤❤
Edit: when I say underrated I mean by the place that I live not europe, not everyone is from Europe and knows about this show
We loved it!
It's one of the most popular shows where it came out?
underrated? Its very popular in many European countries
It's definitely severely underrated in North America so you are absolutely right! It's not nearly as well-known as it should be.
@@natatatt thank you after 10 months I still think about this comment lmao
The genius of this show is putting out a great comedy against the backdrop of a turbulent and violent time in Ireland’s history. Michelle is my absolute favorite and Sister Michael is the truth, the way and the light! I’m excited to watch this show with y’all!
As a teen in 90s England, I'm now appalled at how we weren't taught about what was happening just across the sea. Derry Girls S1 is brilliant, for the comedy of course but also those sudden hard-hitting moments that remind you what was reality for everyone.
How where you not taught? I was teen in England in 90s and was fully aware, especially as troubles were also in England...kids from a local school to me in England were killed in IRA bombing, so really hit hard and then after affects like every bin was then sealed up for years because of worries of more bombing
I mean it was the English governments fault so they didn’t like to shout about it 🤷🏻♀️
As a teen who grew up in Belfast in the 90’s during that era i can honestly say I wouldn’t change my teenage life. It was hard and scary but…….that was our world. Oh, and we definitely had blue NHS inhalers 😂
@@nico_penI'm Irish but live in the UK. There's not many people where I live that know what really went on back then in NI, or the effect the UK actually had on Ireland and it's culture. It's just not taught here.
@@Beebee192-j7i I am English and fully aware of what happened band the affects on both countries! And I don't know what schools are lacking in your area, but I went to a school were it was taught, especially after two local children were blown up by the IRA!
Derry Girls hit the ground running from the first episode and never looked back. 18 episodes in total and each one a gem.
Something to watch as you move forward is how the kids are reflections of their parents (or in James’ case, how he mirrors Gerry) the generational themes in this show are sooooo well done.
The most chaotic friend group I've seen and I love them for it
Seriously 😂😂
Yo los veo tan realistas, los veo a menudo en mi aula de clases y son iguales en todas partes los adolescentes
Honestly? I'm just happy to be here and know Benji & Rizzo have now seen Derry GIrls.... it's what they deserve
☺️☺️
I absolutely love Derry Girls. Every time I watch this show I always make sure to watch Orla because she's almost always doing something strange. She's most definitely my favorite character
Haha I need to watch again and focus on her
@@PinkPopcast yeah there’s compilations you can watch online after watching the show that are titled things like Orla doing random things in the background for 5 minutes or James noticing the weird things Orlas doing in the background for 3 minutes 😂
I’m from Northern Ireland and I’m glad you liked the show! The show is so relatable to growing up here, we all know a Colm and had a teacher like Sister Michael. Can’t wait for season 2!
😂😂 that’s awesome
It was incredibly difficult to balance the Derry of that time and the conflict in Northern Ireland with the comedy but they really pulled it off.
I'm from Wexford county in Ireland, and my cousin who is an asthmatic had blue and brown inhalers, or "puffers" as she called them, in the 90's.
Thank you lol
Called puffers in Australia too, and also had the blue one in the 90s 😁
I’ve had red, blue and white inhailers… 05 baby tho
My mam was a teenager during the troubles living in the north and while watching it she told us stories I probably would not have heard thanks to this show :)
35:33 Apparently no man from Derry will ever officially gave his approval of any man his daughter dates, not even when they've been married for 20 years.
🙃🙃🙃
Apparently there's someone like Uncle Colm in every family in Ireland, both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
If not in your family certainly someone you know haha
@@laurajaynenolan2149Or maybe if you don't think you have a Colm then you are... the Colm😮
My sister is asthmatic and from what I remember she's always had a blue inhaler (and the brown round preventer too) so the show is correct. The US caught on after us with that one 😂🤙
Edit: and yes, it was the 90s she's had her inhalers since.
Lol I guess I’m trippin
I had the blue inhaler as a child in the 90s as well lol (Australia)
My brother had asthma growing up in the 1970s and the inhaler was blue 😊😊😊😊 ( from the UK)
my mum also had a blue inhaler (Germany)
I remember having the blue inhalers around 1996, but I also remember white ones & a friend had a burgundy one in ~'98/'99 which I think was a steroid / preventer inhaler. (Also Australia)
* I can remember being jealous that my friend's one was a different colour to everyone else's. 😅
one of my favourite oneliners (that I didn't even catch my first time(s) watching) is "you can't be wasting esther's time like that" when Erin says she will call childline. it implies that she *has indeed done that before* and maybe esther even complained about it xD absolutely brilliant
Derry Girls and Schitt’s Creek were the 2 series that got me through the pandemic
Both so good!!
I also discovered those two during that time 😂
Nicola Coughlan in Derry Girls is the main reason I then watched Bridgerton. I live in Australia not Ireland but I was a teenager in the early 90's and distinctly remember regularly hearing about The Troubles on the news.
Sister George Michael (for yes, that is her full name!) is one of my most favourite TV characters ever. Every word that comes out of her mouth is pure gold. I can watch all 3 season multiple times and never get bored (I'm Irish and grew up a little earlier than these girls but still recognise all they lived through).
That awesome feeling when you like the video before it even premieres! Can’t wait!
🙌🙌
This is gonna be a good one, I’m so glad you guys are reacting to it lol. Any Orla Stan’s in here?
We love Orla 😌
Orla's fantastic
THIS SHOW IS INCREDIBLEEEE love to see it getting recognition
yesssss I'm so happy you guys reacted to this show!! thank you so for taking the time to react and edit it and even bring it over here on UA-cam . it is really appreciated 💖. Claire is my favorite characters because I relate so much to her when I was a highschooler ,the wee lesbian 😹and orla is close second .
Thanks for appreciating the extra afford lol
I also relate to Claire- anxiety lesbian is my whole mood

Did you guys realize there are 2 bridgerton connections in this. Besides Nicola, the guy who plays Ciaran (the photo guy) was Berbrook in season 1and in season 2 of Derry Girls one of the boys erin has a crush on is Theo from season 2 of bridgerton
We noticed later haha yea
I RECOGNIZED NIGEL BERBROOKE AND THEOOO OMG. i loVED theo!!! nigel appalled me sm, i cudnt forget him even if i tried hahah
Thank you!! I couldn't quite work out why Ciaran/Berbrook were so familiar!
That's crazy! The Bridgerton x Derry Girls crossover ❤
Such a good show, I just finished the last season and it a so well done the whole show. I coulda watched these girls in a million more situations but they way they ended it right at them turning 18 was so good and so purposeful to show how quick that part of your life is.
Agreed, we could’ve washed so much more of these girls, but they ended it in a great place
Firstly, I was in school in Ireland in the 90s and we did have blue inhalers!! Derry Girls was exactly what being in an all girls school was like. I always well up at that last scene because even though the writer said it wasn’t based on any particular bombing, it reminds me of the Omagh bombing in 1998, one of the worst atrocities in the history of ‘The Troubles’.
I’m SO happy y’all are finally getting around to this show! It’s just SO good. I feel like we don’t have enough “slice of life” tv shows and this one doesn’t disappoint!
Finally!!! It's been 84 years!!!
Haha can you still smell the fresh paint?
@@PinkPopcast The fresh Derry paint
@@PinkPopcast and the china has STILL never been used!
just an absolute delight of a show - a precious little thing I would protect with my life
Hahah yes!
The next 2 seasons grow deeper. There are some really comical stories and some heartfelt stories. All the group supports Claire totally (note how often rainbow symbols crop up) and there are some amazing! musical parts. Gotta finish it! Season 3 has a 7th “finale” episode. ☘️💚
Michelle is my favourite the things she comes out with soo funny 😂
😂😂
I'm a Derry man, this show is one of my favourite really captures the people of Derry really well. Also the Inhaler is 100% accurate I had one, love seeing people react to my wee city
fun little fact, for the rest of the show all of friend group wears rainbow pins in support of clare
As someone actually from the North of Eire, the show is genuinely one of my favourites. It's nice to hear my accent on TV
Best show ever. Sister Michael and Orla are my faves!
Also, all the main cast are actually in their 30’s or older.
I had no idea lol
They were in their 20s here except for the girl that plays Claire she was in her 30s
One of my absolute favorite shows! Orla is by far my favorite character!
Orla is awesome!!
I love everything about this show. The cast, the writing - every single character feels real (thought their heightened of course)- the side characters are ace: Dennis, Jenny, Colm, Sister Michael, aunt Sarah. The show is hilarious but has so much heart and authenticity. It's light but doesn't shy away from important political and life issues. It's nostalgic and the soundtrack is perfect. I cried straight through season 3 because I felt so connected to the girls and felt like losing a group of friends I never had as a teen.
They such a great group, even though they’re constantly in trouble 😂
Spoiler for Bridgerton
Nicola Coughlan is, again, the one who wrote the anonymous article.
I think the show is set in 1996/1997(?) because it's only set a year or two before the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. 37:00 I was born in 1995 and was prescribed an Inhaler when I was 5 in 2000 (from the UK) and they had been blue for quite a while before I was prescribed one. My dad is asthmatic as well and he had a blue inhaler before I was born. So I think in the UK they may have primarily been blue for a long time? I didn't know inhalers were colours other than blue until I was pretty grown, I think they're colour coded for type of medication now?
Excited for you to watch season 2!
Hahah thank you!!
Yup! 1996-1998 😊
The actor at 34:36 actually plays Nigel Berbrooke in Bridgerton. The guy who herrassed Daphne
Martin Scorsese loves this show as well. I think Sister Michaels is his favourite character.
I'm inclined to say Erin's my fave bc she has my name and I've seen it like 5 times in media in my 26 years on this earth, but Claire is just on another level, and I have a soft spot for James. Cannot wait for your season 2 reaction!
There’s a whole
Movie celebrating your name! Erin Brokovich.
@@aurelie-annegilly8018 i know! But i’ve only ever heard it a few other times like in a Drew Barrymore movie and sprinkled on tv eps in one-off characters
37:00 The inhalers here in the UK have never been any colour other than blue or beige/brown (there are reddish-purply ones that no-one really had), and they’ve been like that since I’ve been alive (1980s), so it IS historically accurate for the UK ❤
omg, glad you guys reacted to this!! Derry Girls is such a good show
🙌🙌
the subtitles are off in a few areas by the way like when michelle says 'speak for yourself shite the tights' (basically meaning clare's a nervous wreck) but netflix has subtitled it 'speak for yourself sugar tits'
Oh i didn't realise that! I caught some slangs used but im frm SEA so have to rewatch probably 19392x to catch the accent n slightly make out the words haha. I didn't know how much I'd love an Irish comedy like wow!
My moms family is from/lived in Kerry, Ireland. Such a good modern Irish comedy about an important time & i know many irish people are pleased this show exists. Yall are one of my fav reaction channels but it also just makes me so happy to watch Non Irish American people watch and enjoy this show as much as me & my mom do :)
It’s so good!! 🥰🥰
I just discovered DG a week ago. Binged it. It's one of the best things I've ever seen. My teens and I laughed so hard and learned much.
We’re so glad it got recommended!
I'm so excited that you guys watched this show!!! You definitely need to check out seasons 2&3
All on patreon already ☺️
I love this show so much. I studied aboard in Derry in ‘06 where I studied the conflict. But this show just nails that town. I don’t know how to explain it. But I just love it so so much
The way you reacted to this really showed me the difference in culture from America to the UK because most of the stuff in this is normal here, and is a slightly over acted version of my home town lol 😂
😂😂
as someone who went to a catholic all girls school, this show is scarily accurate.
The ending just hits you so hard
Yepp
My brother's inhaler was the same color as that girls in the 90s. Now they are white.
They’re not white in America now lol I guess we switched
SO GLAD YOURE WATCHING THIS SHOW ITS ONE OF MY FAVORITES
They always find a way to make people laugh or smile and thats why the pink popcast is one of the best podcast
🥰🥰
Please watch red, white and royal blue!! Currently obsessed with it and would love to see you guys reacting to it! ❤️❤️
Oh gaaawd Benji will melt!!! THE EYELASHES!!!

theyre hot but thats it. its too wattpad and cringe T_T
I see a lot of people mentioned about the inhalers but just so as you know it was a channel 4 production in the uk, Netflix have it now, but channel 4 made it if you’re throwing anything at makers 😂
Derry Girls is set exactly when I grew up and it’s epic in both the nostalgic sense as well as the comedy. The fears that were around in ‘the troubles’ were just starting to hit us as we were hitting our teens.
I'm so excited y'all are watching Derry Girls. It's one of the best sitcoms ever!!!
IM SO GLAD YOU GUYS ARE WATCHING THIS
Omg I love that you used "black and tans" in the beginning lol! This is my favorite show ever and im so happy you're watching it
every Derry Girls finale gives tear jerker feels. Season 2 was my fav of the trio.
so happy one of the commentary channels i watch is FINALLY doing this show! it’s my everything
❤️❤️
Growing up in Glasgow in Scotland its easy to get the political, historical and religious aspects of it. Glasgow during the irish famine saw thousands of irish catholics move to the city (Scotland went through the reformation so was very protestant) they were treated like second class citizens. Now to this day the problems in Northern Ireland are also in Scotland. Growing up catholic (although im not religious in any way at all) i thought the episode where they got stuck in the Orange Order parade was hilarious. I think Glasgow has more Orange Order parades than Belfast..... Always trouble around tht time of year too. They actively march through catholic areas and stop outside catholic churches etc. Also there are republican marches too but say maybe 10 a year but there are hundreds of Orange Order ones. So it's safe to say that sectarian hatred is still safe today in Northern Ireland and Scotland.......Anyway Derry Girls does a good job of capturing the feel of being a teenager then and also the ongoing civil war or "Troubles" hilarious showand it only gets better. My personal favorite is Michelle (everything she says just kills me). Also shout out to Siter Michael who is probably the star of the show anytime she is on screen.
Oh my gosh, we definitely appreciate the show for shedding some light on something that wasn’t taught to us, thank you too for the added context
"The thing about livin' in Derry is there's nowhere to hide."
my sister and i will randomly quote this all the time, especially the "i hope its not the gay thing" scene
😂😂
As a born and bred Derry girlie, bless yous for this reaction LMFAO
On a serious note im so glad it brought our struggles to the mainstream, NI has went through some amount of shyte. Love the reactions boys
I was a 90’s teenager in Northern Ireland and this show was so so accurate! Also the inhaler is accurate as my sister had one and it was blue lol! 😅
This is such a good show, and I love how Penelope from Bridgeton is in it too.
why does the last episode always make me cry
It’s so sweet 🥲
I just watched this show for the first time this summer and it's such a gem
When are we getting Season 2? Love you guys!
I'm so excited that you're watching this. I love Derry Girls. OMG Rizzo's laugh is one of my favourite things - such a good full body laugh. ❤
Thanks 😁😁
I mean the recent pandemic was this for a lot of people. All those kids who missed dances and graduations. But still had their own young people things whilst the world was shut down and people were dying. Wild times
I grew up in northern ireland, same age as those girls would've been at the time. Confident my friend had an inhaler just like the one in the show.
YES OMG I DIDN’T KNOW HOW BADLY I NEEDED YOU GUYS TO WATCH THIS BUT I’M SO HAPPY YOU DID!!!!
😊😊
Girl NO WAY you just reacted to Derry Girls. Omg 2 of my favourite channels (including you guys) reacted to it, when it wasn't even one of Netflix's biggest shows. This is amazing. It's still one of my favourite shows I've watched in the past 10 years (favourite comedy, that's for sure).
I don't know how i have been waiting for this! so excited to watch it again with you guys!!
🥰🥰
watched all the seasons on patreon but excited to see how you guys edited this!
🙌🙌
Rizzo throttling Benji was not something I expected from this video but it was fucking hilarious 😂
😂😂
I was shocked when I googled the actress who played Claire. Shocked in the good way.
I love this show. I’m so happy you’re watching it.
Clare and Sister Michael were hilarious through out the show. The rest of the cast was equally entertaining. I love the show, thank you for reacting ❤
2:04 I wouldn't really say "everyone from the UK", this is set in Northern Ireland, therefore people from Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland know more about the Troubles than people in the Great Britain/England would. Love the reaction! Just thought I should mention that though, there’s a lot more Irish humour in the show rather than English/Great Britain (I'm aware Northern Ireland is a part of the UK, but the North has a different culture to Great Britain)
Bro i love this show it was filmed in my old school! it was so cool to see them in person in between lessons!💀
That’s so cool!!
Yay! Derry Girls is my top 5 comedies!!!
Derry Girls is such an amazing show!!
I don't know about 90's Irish inhalers, but Ventolin inhalers in Australia have been that colour since at least the 80's.
TLDR: This show has my entire heart.
I see the mural in Derry often and I've always been in awe of it. Its beautiful and it reminds me of my childhood and of hope. The show's finale holds a really special place in my heart. This is my home and it is the home of the people I love, and the people I will meet or never meet. The faces painted on that mural represent not only the comfort the show brought millions, but of the thousands of childhoods experienced or cut short during the troubles; the childhood memories that couldn't be recreated in a script. It would be incredibly difficult to travel to a town in the north without finding a monument or mural dedicated to the victims of a bombing or shooting where you're stood. There is so much anger, darkness and grief associated with this time, but this show depicted a side to real experiences that reminded us that joy and love continued on in the face of it because it had to. These were children raised in an adults' war just like the conflicts that are still occurring across the globe. The humility of the characters is supposed to highlight the absurdity of the situation whilst comforting us that we are largely removed from it - a privilege others do not have.
I just rewatched this video and im so excited for you guys to watch the rest 😁
The awesome thing about you posting it so much later to UA-cam is I forgot your reactions when I first watched it on Patreon 😄
Hahah it all worked out I guess
I can hands down say I never thought I’d see a pink popcast vid open with Black and Tans playing in the background 😂😂😂
