  • This video reflects the Upper Holy Jim trail condition on April 2022. The current condition (as of April 2024) is much worse. Near the top, there is a large 3' diameter fallen tree that requires dismounting from your bike to pass under it. There are cantaloupe-sized loose rocks all over the trail, deep ruts and the worst part is that at least 3 of the switchbacks are completely washed away making those turns unrideable.
If restored, Upper Holy Jim is a fantastic technical single track that snakes down from the eastern shoulder of Santiago Peak, the Santa Ana's highest mountain. As an alternative to riding the chunky fire road of Main Divide, Upper Holy Jim is a good singletrack option if you're heading south from the summit to other terrain like Lower Holy Jim, Indian Truck Trail or Los Pinos Peak.

Used to ride it in the 80's and it was gnarly then. Could have also been the bikes. 😉

It’s a gnarly trail! I took my gravel bike down it once and could barely get down any of it…too many rocks.
