Anyone in the comments who would try to say something critical about the calves being separated from the mother cows, needs to know that it's a well know fact that Holsteins aka milk cows are horrible mothers, they do not take good care of their young and will most of the time abandon them from right after giving birth to days later. It's unknown why exactly Holstein cows in particular abandon their young more than any other breed of cows, but if the farmers didn't intervene many of the calves would die of starvation, expose or aggression. I worked on a dairy farm in my teens and I've seen Holstein mothers abandon their calves first hand. There were many instances I saw where calves were born at night when no one's around and by morning the calf would be dead bc the mother didn't even bother cleaning the afterbirth off and it froze or if it did survive, later on the cow would get aggressive and kick the poor calf whenever it would tried to feed, so many farmers find it's just best to separate them in a preventative method so none of them are lost.
