Awesome interview
Such nice episode thank you very much
Such a great insight into the world of acting from someone who has worked with some of the most well known actors on the planet. Thank you for this.
Terrific interview. You can see it the bodies and hear it in the voices of great actors: so grounded, connected, fluid, free.
What a pleasant dude.
My college teaches the Alexander Technique. I wasn't quite sure what it was all about but, after watching this I am definitely going to take it. Thank you for sharing this video and teaching us the information about this technique, I feel this will really help aspiring actors and actresses out there.
Favourite episode so far. Brilliant interview.
This has been one of my favorite episodes. I have studied the Alexander Technique for over 5 years, and have actually sat in a talk with Jean-Louis. I love that he spoke in this episode of thinking of the entire spine. For awhile I was just focusing on my "bad habits" and when I started to focus on my spine and body as a whole, I lost all the tension that's been so hard for me to get rid of. Thank you For this Clare & Jean-Louis. The breakthrough has been amazing!
This was Grace! Sorry! Using a friends computer.
Loving this series so far!
Love this! Great episode
Thank you, Jean-Louis Rodrigue. :D
Thanks for making this video!) I do lots of sports like dance, tai chi and daoist yoga, and meditate as well. I usually conceive the way I personally feel, but, doing sports, I'm used not to think about pain that I may constantly have. Once I broke my foot and continued dancing at competitions and walking straight normally. This video reminded me an important thing: we need to pay attention not only to the nature and people around us, remember how they react, breathe, think, live, which emotions they have. We also have to pay attention to ourselves when we feel pain from time to time. Then it's just that much easier to make the characters because you have truly comprehended the feelings and sensations
"no acting without access to your yourself" - well said Jean Louis. Thank you
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview and I really want to study this technique someday. What great advice and wisdom. Thank you Jean-Louis!
Chocolate in the drawer where vegetables should be, my kind of guy!
One day we will work together jean-louis
I hadn't heard of the Alexander Technique before this episode but I'm so intrigued. I love the talk of presence and awareness - I'm taking up yoga after this! Thanks Jean-Louis!
Great episode! Amazing advice, especially on the topic of breathing that is so underestimated, but vitally important. Thank you!
So much great stuff in this interview. Makes me want to study Alexander everyday! I really loved his advice on telling myself "I have time" which can help keep one focused on the moment itself. The importance of knowing oneself is huge and vast.
I got to work with Jean-Louis on a play I was in which Larry Moss directed here in LA. They're both brilliant - I cannot recommend them highly enough. Jean-Louis helped transform me to the point where people didn't recognize me. Alexander work is so important for all actors.
I often get really lost in Alexander Technique. I am someone that holds a lot of tension and in a way, releasing that tension gives me kind of an identity crisis. I am performing at the moment and before I step on stage I am ALWAYS terrified that this time I'll stuff it up, the audience will see the real me, someone who is not capable and not worthy of this kind of attention. However, while the performances have been going I have begun to give myself a moment before stepping on stage. I breath and relax my body and I tell myself: you are meant to be here, this is your time to shine, you are the only person who can tell this particular story tonight, just be open to it and it will find you. Arghg!!! I'm still an anxious child off-stage but slowly I feel like I am grappling the concept of release on-stage.
Great interview. I have used the "silent R" in every audition after watching this. And I can tell you it really works! Thanks

A very very interesting man Jean-Louis. This has me really interested in studying the Alexander Technique. well done!
I studied Alexander Technique at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood. It helped me with relaxation, awareness of my body and posture. It also made me more aware of all of the bad habits I was using in my acting. I had so many of them. Cheers!
***** Yes, I do. Some of my habits included my head shaking and/or bouncing around too much, my feet dancing around too much, not breathing enough, etc. I used to bounce my knee all of the time without even thinking about it. My acting teacher at AADA would turn his hand into a gun and yell, "BAM!" He did it every time and pretty much cured me of it. He told me that it comes from nervous tension. We all have it. Becoming aware of it makes it easier to control it and use it to your advantage in your acting work.
Most definitely, Amy. Agreed! ;)
In this business, either you got it, or you dont......(old sb saying, goes way back....)
