  • "The House of Dreams," a short story by Agatha Christie, is a captivating exploration of psychological intrigue and the supernatural. The narrative follows John Segrave, an ordinary man whose life takes an extraordinary turn when he inherits a mysterious house. The house, imbued with a peculiar and haunting atmosphere, becomes the stage for Segrave's recurring and increasingly vivid dreams.
In these dreams, he encounters an enigmatic woman named Allegra, with whom he shares a profound and inexplicable connection. As the line between dream and reality begins to blur, Segrave finds himself drawn deeper into the mysteries of the house and his own psyche. The story delves into themes of destiny, the subconscious mind, and the unsettling power of dreams.
Christie masterfully weaves suspense and psychological complexity, leaving readers questioning the nature of reality and the influence of the unseen forces that shape our lives. "The House of Dreams" is a testament to Christie's ability to blend the mundane with the mystical, creating a narrative that is both thought-provoking and eerily compelling.

Interesting story and presented beautifully by an outstanding actress. Not many narrations are good enough to raise a good story to the level this one reaches. One only wishes the author could hear it.

Is this legit ? Is it really by Agatha Christie?

That's a good question, in recent years I've seen stories written under Agatha Christie but they were really written by authors given permission by the Christie estate.

I looked this up, and it looks like Dame Agatha really wrote it. It was first published in 1926 in the Sovereign Magazine according to the article. Like you, I wondered if it was "authentic". It's a new one to me too.

Christie wrote a few fantasy and horror stories. She was pretty good at them, too.
Too bad they are not as popular as her mysteries, though.

The very first line says it, his love went unsatisfied.
It is a rather cruel and ironic tale. Christie could have a dark sense of irony, some times.

A beautiful female voice, good story completely ruined by 5 minute interludes of long tinny ads. Goodbye.

I agree. The usual few seconds of ads are annoying, but these were long enough for one's mind to lose track of the story!

@@Lit-Lens I'm not sure why, but I just watched this all the way through without a single ad! I do follow several UA-cam channels and at times am frustrated by ads (usually in languages I don't know, and often for products I would never use!). So I was happy that this story was not broken up by ads. It's the first time I have listened to anything on your channel, so will now go and see what other delights you have in store :)
