      Thanks very for your comments. Catching small stocked fish is great fun on ultra light gear and perfect for beginners and kids. I agree that its brilliant that fisheries have picked a lovely and scenic spot like this to stock. Yeah the scrubbies seem to work on just about everything.

    Great video. I’m completely new to fishing and this helped a lot. After looking at the site, the most recent stock was on December of 2020 of about 1000 Australian bass. Do you think it’s alright to use the same setup in your guide for trout when fishing for Australian bass? I am not completely sure if that amount of stocked fish is exhausted or not by now. Cheers for the video.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 роки тому +1

      Yes a similar setup for bass will work really well. In fact this setup works great for a whole range of species including estuary perch, bream, trout, redfin, pinky snapper and more. Also remember that bass respond incredibly well to surface lures and shallow diving lures.

    • @lodg2577
      @lodg2577 3 роки тому

      @@fishingmad Thanks for the response, I really appreciate the help! Although, I have another question about the setup - When looking at your guides for carp, I plan to follow the same running sinker rig, but I am unsure about what size sinker to use, I have been using size 4, but lately my lines have snapped when I have a fish on (carp).

    I went here yesterday for the first time. Only managed 1 Redfin and no other bites in 4-5 hours 😢. It was 27 degrees and a group of 10-20 kids were jumping into the water and making a hell of a racket so wouldn’t have helped fishing. The place is stunning though but got very busy with kids and dog walkers throwing their dogs into the lake for a swim. Oh and the walk back up the hill after is no joke lol

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ben, I hope you are well. It can be a little tricky to guess sometimes. Generally that spot is well protected from the wind but it all depends on the direction the wind is flowing. I generally use windy.com and meteye to work out which direction the wind is coming from. If its coming from the cliffs you should be fine, if its pointing to the cliffs then it might be windy. I hope that helps, let us know how you go and always feel free to share reports and pics

    Around 15 years ago this place had a substantial population of yellow bellies and i remember sight castings yabbies to schools of silver perch in the shallow weedy end a few times. Then around 2010 there was a massive fish kill. Not sure what happened exactly but unfortunately its happened a few other times since then. Its a shame, being such a beautiful spot. I suspect something toxic from the past quarry operations. But if you ever get an evening summer session with one of those bright orange/red sunsets bouncing off the quarry face, you wont forget about it quickly. Has the feeling of being in the Kimberly or somewhere similar. I must admit i have a love hate relationship with the fact its such a great place to swim aswell. I really do miss the time when it was all fenced off and officially out of bounds. There was hardly ever anyone there, in fact quite often youd have the entire place to yourself with the falcons that nest on the cliff face. Its too often full of drunken fools rubbishing the place with bottles and cans, not to mention the loud top 40 tunes blasted from a dozen portable speakers. I totally get how i must seem like an old grouch but when youre well aware of the potential of this place and experienced it before it was open to the public, only to see it so horribly disrespected these days, im sure youll get where im coming from. I regret that i was probably one of the first to contact knox council and suggest that they do something with the place like theyve done. If id known how badly it would be treated i would have strived to keep it semi secret a little longer.

    • @fishingmad

      There are reddies in there, its just with the really cold conditions they have shut down a little. When it gets warmer we should see regular catches of redfin once again. I'm sure there are plenty of trout still in there. For me the bites have been more frequent in the early morning, which is also a good way to beat the crowds down there.
