I gotta say, it's hard for me. Anytime I get angry, I gotta ask for forgiveness. No matter what, I always find myself asking for forgiveness. My conscience strikes me down so hard to where there's no way for me to stand up and fight. I just bend to it and ask for forgiveness. Anytime my conscience makes me feel guilty, I ask for forgiveness. It ruins entire days tbh, always being under such a pressure. It started when I read someone say, "God, IF I've sinned against you, please forgive me." That became my motto just about. I say it first thing in the morning (I just can't get around my conscience telling me otherwise), I say it if I've been busy all day, etc. I fell trapped sometimes because of it. I want my sins forgiven, but I don't want to be under guilt just because I'm existing. Idk anymore
I know exactly what you mean. I’ve experienced this same thing. Sin will ruin my entire day, everyday it starts all over again. I feel trapped, I don’t know which direction to turn and everything feels like the wrong thing to do. I confess my sins aloud and thank God for all he has done. I have a long talk with God about all type of things and I tell him I love him and if I’m not being honest please share his spirit with me and give me an honest heart. I told God I will not worry anymore and I will trust Him to lead me in all situations. I’ve been having a good day ever since.
First you must understand that all your sins have been forgiven by what Jesus has done at the cross, not by your deed, strength, asking for forgiveness, holiness, righteous acts, etc. Forgiveness is by Him not you period, and you receive that forgiveness by faith when you acknowledge Jesus as your saviour. It's all about Him and what He did. Receive that your righteousness is in Him.
I loved this answer. I just want to point out two words he uses which could as easily be exchanged for two other words. The first is the word faith - we could just as easily insert the word repentance. Why? Consider what it is that we trust - it isn't that Jesus died for forgiveness of sins - even the devil believes that. No our faith is that Jesus is Lord. And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And faith that Jesus is Lord is demonstrated in aligning our lives to his being Lord - in our repentance. No work that we do can cause the Spirit to fall on us in greater power - not praying, not reading the Bible - these can only cause God to come in greater power in as much as they are repentance. Repentance is not a work - it is a decision - even if it is only by God's grace that can we repent. For example the decision to go to the gym twice a week is not a work until the day in which we first go. And secondly whenever he talks about being patient we can think of it as waiting - the same waiting the disciples were doing in Acts 2. They have just spent years trying to please God without the power of the Spirit and they had without exception fallen flat on their faces. So now they are waiting - they are refusing to put faith any more in that which they can do in their own power - in dead works. We cannot cause God to pour His Spirit upon us but we can in repentance and in waiting choose to no longer place faith in anything other than God's presence, leading and empowering.
In the past I struggled to walk right with God but failed until the Lord revealed to me what cross is and how to reach it. What the preacher says is correct but he misses it on faith. The word of faith about Christ Jesus and grace obtained through same faith is what lacks. Faith is one (1) Eph.4:4 and grace of God is not unmerited favor as many purport.

If you want a decent example of how to walk in the Spirit read Genesis 24, the account of Abraham's servant going to get a wife for Isaac. Also Isaiah 30:21. Whether you turn to the right or to the left you will hear a word behind you saying this is the way walk in it. It's being a born again (Acts 5:32) follower of Christ, not just a believer who does their own thing. Take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
Men are enslaved to sin and they need Jesus, the last Adam to save them. Abraham was Gods' prophet, his life being assign of what was to take place later. The promises in the scriptures including 2 Cor. 10:5 are for those IN CHRIST JESUS - something Christians don't know how to access.

Even if someone miraculously achieved this “spirit patience”...there would be no way of knowing it. Not only that, but the temptation to judge people based on your “patience” would create the very impatience you’re trying to avoid. Same with the other “fruits”...it’s literally impossible to claim or achieve any of them with certainty. Piper has missed the whole point of the purpose of the human condition. That’s the Calvinist in him...compliance to the law and it’s impossible promises.
