Even though he might die in body one day (not that I have no faith in his carnal immortality...) his spiritual presence is eternal. When we get bored of St George England will have a St Damon. Each 23rd of March will be celebrated as St Damon's day with parades and wacky traditions like wearing your clothes inside out. And of course, by this time, the national anthem will be For Tomorrow (and it is a truth universally acknowledged that this is the most eclectic Blur song). And so though the man may die, the legend will live on...
His voice has changed a lot, now he simply sings different things in a different way. He doesn't pretend to sing the same stuff in the same way through 20 years and more. His nasal, almost high-pitched voice has turned into a more warm and narrative voice, his voice is growing with the man and the artist and turning into a more mature sound. Oh, well, that's my thought :)
Yeah, voice changed a bit, in the way you described imo. But another nice thing to notice is that Albarn also has learnt how to use his voice, I mean now he has much more control over his voice. Experience, yeah. And my voice is two tones lower after just 5 years of smoking ;)
Agnese In the 2009 Blur documentary, No Distance Left to Run, his voice changed after his heroin years. He couldn’t explain it but stated that his voice was never the same after that period in his life. Also he is older...oh, well, that’s my thought😉
His voice now is more sensual and he can go deeper. (That sounds bad) but I feel like his voice now is just more comforting, like a warm blanket. His voice then was beautiful on songs like tender and this is a low. His voice fit the songs like parklife and girls and boys. Universals one that I feel didn’t change much but that was a lower song already. I was never able to describe his voice when he was younger. It was just different to what I’ve heard before.
My brain still cannot compute that Damon Albarn from Blur and Damon Albarn from Gorillaz are the same person :-D I think the evolution of his voice will be the reason, I know Blur since I was a child but I got to know most of the Gorillaz discography in adulthood when his voice already changed considerably.
His old voice was a bit nasally. But now it sounds mature and warm and more velvety. I prefer his voice now as he aged, but he was still incredibly talented.
Am I the only one who likes Graham's later voice? It's much more fuller and warmer which I think is more pleasant in the ear compared to his sharper voice when he was younger.
He released a few solo albums, and I think he just became a more confident singer as time has gone on. I definitely think he sounds better these days than the 90s!
I sing and an the same age as Damon. My voice has changed quite considerably over the years. Listening to him, his hasn't changed that much, especially considering he's a smoker which usually gives the voice a velvet thicker tone after a while. I remember David Bowie recommending Lulu take up smoking to give a thickness to her voice. It really does change it. Damon's voice is still on top form. To be honest, the man could mime and I'd still love him! Haha!
@@HayleighM4y when Damon was talking about heroin not that long ago, maybe a year ago he said he didn't have an addictive personality and could smoke a few cigarettes in a day and not smoke for a week after..... just cos he didn't want to. I think he still probably smokes now and then especially the odd joint but he's still a great singer. Compared to how different Liam Gallagher's voice has changed. Obviously different styles of singing and heavier drinking and drugs with Oasis. Liam was losing his voice around Heathen Chemistry like so much he was just screaming into the mic, couldn't hold a note or hit the high notes. And by high notes I mean the simple chord progression on Some Might Say. So they had to stop playing it live. It was kind of sad but unbearable to listen to live at the same time. Both still legends in my book. And Graham Coxon is a legend too and seriously underrated. He's an amazing guitar player!! You're So Great is one of my favourites despite him not really being a singer. It's more the frailty and sincerity of his voice in that song that makes it so amazing! Saying all that I'm not sure what the point of this video was. All our voices change as we get older.
He is singing one tone lower in the "adult albarn days" but i think he sings better now cause he has the ability to sing in many different ways now. He can sing the old Blur songs in the same way he used to do in the past. He keeps his Voice very well and improved it also. I need another Blur album.
I prefer his voice now...it's so warming...I could listen to him the whole day... just love his hypnotic voice...it feels like a hug in the ears...prefer him now...I'm obsessed with this man 💖
Same thing happened with Brett Anderson. Possibly smoking and drugs had an effect in both cases but he also went through a voice change with similar results. Maybe not quite so comfortable in the upper ranges outside of the studio but lower down, a warmth and texture that wasn't there before. I think that can be said for both of them. They are able to in inject gravitas and sincerity into their old songs and almost give them new meaning.
I think his voice used to be able to do more in sense that he had a better range, but at times he just yelled while now he's far more precise, so I'd say both are equal in a way.
Me gusta su voz ahora, es más cálida y se nota la madurez pero escuchar "This is a low" cantandolo en los 90's me eriza la piel y me hace soñar y volver a ese momento tan único en la vida como es la adolescencia. 😢
The only reason I prefer 90's is because of the bit with 'Jim stops and gets out the car...' means a ton to me and he sang it with so much emotion in the 90's version lol
i think he had a great range during 90's but didnt take care of his voice well and nowadays even though his control is better and he is more experienced i preffer his younger voice. he is unique anyway tho
Yeah yeah yeah, his singing is beautiful, but have you heard him SPEAK in 2020 or 2021? I swear he could melt butter ln top of pancakes just by talking onto it.
5:05 as a singer, i definitely feel he can support his high notes more, its pretty what his voice is doing, changing from chest to head voice, but i feel like he can stay more in chest voice to gain a fuller sound. p.s. PLS MARRY ME DAMON AHHHHHH
Everyone here is discussing how much his voice changed and I’m thinking here that compared to others singers of his age it didn’t change at all. Maybe I’m deaf, or he knows how to use his voice but on both versions it sounds great. Only maybe a bit softer, but still he can sing loudly if he wants to and also he can now reach lower notes. But for my ear if I’m not concentrating to hear differences it sounds the same.
Seems the opposite to me. His voice was stronger before but vocals are more blown out and less modulated. He’s better at controlling the notes now and has a warmer, richer tone than before. So while his voice is a tad weaker, his command and tone is overall much better now.
Que buen trabajo hiciste! Creo que la diferencia está en los años que lleva cantando lo mismo, quizá algunos temas no los canta sin tanto entusiasmo como antes. Damon es un genio!
