This brought back some memories for me. I used to work on a great lakes freighter and I was designated the one to get the mail every time we went through the soo locks. I was the only one on the boat that ran fast enough to make it back so that I could just step off the walkway and onto the boat, so knobody had to get the ladder out😆.. Great presentation! 👏
Thats pretty cool! and what a neat job working on the freighters, did you enjoy being on the ships? I know someone who often shares pictures from the bridge of ocean liners on the Mississippi, really neat to see
Personally i dont have an issue with a single kayak using a lock and dam. The people complaining probably dont consider the amount resources (fuel and lubricants) that is used bringing a single kayaker to the river . While I have to imagine the gates powered hydraulically use quite a lot of electricity to turn hydraulic pumps large enough that in turn open and close those very large steel gates, would those complaining prefer a hundred kayakers to use the lock and dam? That sounds good to many people , only be cause they aren't intelligent enough to ponder how much resources in the form of fuel and lubricants they never consider in such a complaint. For 100 kayakers to be there in order to use the lock and dam would mean a huge amount of vehicles necessary to deliver 100 people and their kayaks to the river in the first place, all those resources are ok just so the lock and dam isnt used by a single kayaker . Single kayaker = single suv driven to river. 100 kayakers = 100 suvs driven to the river. Carpooling isnt an effective option due to you still need to also transport 100 kayaks to the river, thus using up all those resources, probably much more than the lock and dam requires in electricity to power hydraulic pump to open the gates on the lock and dam. Great job explaing the locks on your video.
thanks for the comment. if one thing is for sure its that people dont think things through. all too often they make their comments in complete ignorance. cheers man!
