listened to it about 4 times already - I think thats her best work so far, very well written and produced. I can imagine some people will find certain elements as a bit gimmicky, especially the "true" BM listeners - but in my opinion she is bringing back the 90s spirit in a way that makes it relevant in 2024 and sounds genuine, great vocals as well

Nice review, Matt. Heard her new singles, and it seems pretty decent. Other than Inquisition, Darkspace, Departure Chandelier, possibly Mgla, and Thy Catafalque, do you have any suggestions for upcoming black metal releases this year?
Only judging from the singles that she released, I'm not too sure how to feel about this one yet. I much prefer the more lofi production of her previous work and the clean vocals also don't really do it for me. Maybe I'll feel differently when I get the chance to listen to the full album. Two albums that I'm really hyped for though are the new ones from Inquisition and Darkspace.
Yeah, it’ll either make or break the album, as the production definitely leans more into the ‘bestial’ side of the Black Metal sound. For me, I think it works perfectly. Really good stuff. Love her early work as well, mind, so I can definitely sympathise. Offt, potential for two barn burners there!
@@Altars_of_Mattness Clean vocals are always a bit of hit or miss for me. Either they create the greatest atmosphere or completely take me out of it, lmao. Perhaps I'll warm up to them once I've listened to the full album.
Fair enough, they’ve gotten a tonne of attention, for sure. I feel like most Extreme Metal bands that get this amount of hype get labelled with the ‘overhyped’ tag by default. In this case, I think the praise is justified. For many, it probably isn’t really
I’m always for people enjoying music. You clearly find something in her work I don’t. I think you said it had an almost War metal production. Not sure I hear it at all. I find her boring and completely derivative. I didn’t like the first album and this is even weaker. On 3 listens I rate it 2/5.
I think he says War metal because the production just blends into a haze and you can't make out the riffs. I'm with you though. I've never listened to her debut album but her Demo was sick, very raw and unhinged and actually riffy. On this album there simply wasn't enough riffs and I don't like when black metal acts use synths to make up for the lack of riffs. I wanted to like this album more because she is an absolutely compelling vocalist. But everything else was quite conventional
this is the only black metal record I know that's coming out this year, but it couldn't be for a better band. Hulder is one of the most important bands in the scene, in my opinion.

Also, forgot to mention, I think the clean vocals are stunning. However, that said, I do like a lot of Atmosphere in my Black Metal
