Unfortunately some uneducated people think that range equals a superior singer. Someone can have power, but not range. Others can have melisma (vocal runs) without power. Some can just have a golden tone. Then there are some people who have it all. Although it’s a matter of opinion, others who can’t discern the differences will automatically jump to the belief that belting and intonation are the most important factors to a singer’s voice. That is unfortunate because Aaliyah was literally one in a million and had it all. We don’t know what kind of success or progress she would have had, but I’m sure we can all see she had the vocal chops and major potential…

@@simple.1829 You are loud and WRONG. And maybe even deaf, as you can see from this video Aaliyah had a wide range, and great control of her voice + perfect falsetto and effortless chest to head voice transition. Just because she sang a certain way (softer and more chill, because it was her style) doesn't mean she couldn't sing, or "she didn't have a voice" like you say, because she DID. SHE COULD SANG. So pls do your research next time.

But people don’t even acknowledge the evolution in such a short time. Check the old interviews with Missy and Tim. For example Missy wrote I care for you in 95/96 and Aaliyah had been recorded it. They then re recorded that record for the A album. Which was also originally supposed to come out on late 98/99 . However they chose to wait and capitalize off of Romeo must die and what she was doing acting wise, as it was helping grow her fan base. But again she really chose to evolve her sound and with Static major coming in the picture they started to create more of what she wanted, and people still think Timbaland was behind that whole album when he only did like 3 songs, the rest was her static , Missy etc . Even the praise from the critics was that she finally evolved her sound into womanhood with the last album and the experiment was paying off.

On each one of her albums she would give her fans a song that showcased her vocal range. I think it was part of the industry keeping her mysterious as she wanted to be. Beginning with star search, although she didn’t win, but at 10 years old, the poise and voice comtrol. "Age ain't nothing but a number" she gave us street thing, on "One in A Million" she gave us this song, On "AALIYAH " she gave us "I refuse". All along she was telling y'all, stop saying I can't sing, cause I can! 😂

It really is so annoying seeing comments saying she couldn't sing or she sings deeper live than on her records. She was 18 here, singing live even through all the bullshit the media was putting her through. No one was asking R. Kelly why he was married to a minor in interviews, they were only asking her. I can only imagine that caused an insane amount of anxiety for her. She died young and didn't have time to hone and perfect her craft. Obviously if she was here with us, she would've developed and grown vocally and the comment section would be different. The comments would look like "wow she was so young here" "omg her baby tone 😍" "her younger voice was so pretty now its deeper and fuller 🥹😍" like y'all do for every other singer, its just that she died young and all the live performances we have of Aaliyah is her singing as a TEENAGER in training not as a fully realized grown ADULT with a developed technique. Aaliyah could sing but she was also a young teen still finding her way. Think about when you were 18. Would you have felt singing live on stage? People judging you for being groomed and exploited, people calling her fast or blaming her for a predator manipulating her. She utilized her gifts the best way she could while she was here. Maturing is realizing that. Anyways she ate 😭😍 the chest to head voice and head to chest voice combo with the angelic tone WAS/IS still sickening! That's why I'm still a kept stan because I never get bored listening to her. It's like listening two artists in one. The deep sultry tone and then her signature angelic tone! ❤

I appreciated Aaliyah so much as a kid. It's much more gratitude to know she carried herself with such grace and left a lasting impact. Fully able to acknowledge that as an adult.

She blows the roof off the place with her song, with the strong tones of an angel, and then is able to sit down and chat about memories and stuff.

In her hair magazine coverage part she says she adds pieces of hair in for a certain look like a sew in or something ... but most of it is her hair only the back has sew in .
