in my humble opinion sam is one of the greatest artists of our generation. the way he manages to bring electronics to life and make them sound organic is absolutely mind blowing.
We are with you 100%. Have had the pleasure of helping him (in a small way!) get the gear and sound he wants for a few years now. It's just astonishing to watch and hear him in action.
Likewise also artists like Four Tet and Forest Swords somehow manage to make synthesised/computer sounds beautiful and human. The UK's smashing it for electronic musicians.
@@johnyixcks Somehow UK has always produced some of the most forward thinking and innovative musicians and composers of all time. Something in the water, I swear.
Sam is not just an artist, he is a scientist as well. To even comprehend managing and operating all those machines in a live performance environment makes my mind boggle.
Think you’ve got to really know your equipment, inside out upside down etc etc....really impressive. So much gear live must be quite stressful, heard a lot of live performers have three or four bits of gear to keep the stress out of live gigs.
I just whatched his anasickmodular video and got curious about his live setup and then BAM: youtube recommends me this. Thanks for the video!! That overstayer unit tho What's the synth that he builds the first sequence on? edit: it's the CS-70M
Can some explain to me how he is doing the looping please? With it seemlessly going from the main audio. To looping and back. Is it just through Ableton?
@@Soundgas sexy. Thankyou. And thanks for the video. I need to figure out how I can loop in Ableton, but the pre loop audio pause. Then after I'm done fing with the loop, have it play seemlessly from where it paused and looped. Hmmmmmm 🤔
anyone got any idea what he's using to loop the drums? he's using a korg midi controller to do the looping but that surely must be sent to an unidentified looper? anyone know what it is?
How on earth does this guy know where all the plugs and gadgets go? I would end up surely starting a fucking electrical fire. Dude is a genie for sure! Nice work man
He's a long standing customer - there are lots of things from us in there, including that CS-70M. Seeing and hearing the things we've restored being used like this is absolutely one of the best things about doing what we do :)
Hey guys! I have a few outboard synth and sequencer and effects and mixer also. But when it comes to connecting somthing with USB to the Mac, I get an ugly noise in the Signal Path. Someone with similar experiences?
Its a Korg Nanokontrol 2, that drives the beat repeat in ableton. I assume his audio runs into ableton and back again, so hes able to do any fx inside it.
In all honesty looks like fun but almost all of this stuff is quite pointless and honestly very limited in it's sonic possibilities. I suppose it depends on what music you make. modular synthesis especially, but also drum machines and analog hardware. such an effort just to make anything slightly approaching interesting. Honestly makes me feel humble knowing all I have is a laptop and a set of speakers.
there is no right or wrong how to make music. stay with your laptop and set of speakers, see for yourself where you are at after 5 years, if still in front your computer then good, you have found your instrument for rest of your lifetime, but most of the time artists seek for inspirations out of their laptops after a while. it is just a different feeling of music creation. Floating Points has been using and I bet - he is still using computer for music production.

Once you’ve got everything clocked to one midi source can actually be fairly easy. Understanding Buchla is definitely not though.
Saw him live last night in Greece. Simply mindblowing! What an artist!
Yes! He was pretty epic at Printworks in London as well!
the synths are all actually just sending midi over to a massive patch
😂
CS70M and Echorec... Too great.
That arp is slowly but surely lifting me up to space
Thirty seconds in and it already sounds amazing
all the gear and all of the idea.
I've seen this video countless time, I'm pretty sure that he's genius. Maybe only few persons can reach that level.
This is magnificent playing

Ohhh myyyy this is so amazing
Yesss!! 💘💘 Love all the gear
Started and finished with Love Me Like This-Nonsense dub.
Awesome!!! What’s the looper he is using that the controller is mapped to?
It's Ableton, according to the soundgas article linked.
My god, how much he must have paid for that studio. Glad it's being put to good use, very good use.
