Awesome. A DOUBLE DPU ALRIGHT !!! That was cool. Oh I need to tell you about that Feromex unit that you filmed. It came thru Claremore, Oklahoma in a BNSF train. It was the rear unit in a 3 unit consist. Pretty cool. Do you ever come down this way? This is where the Union Pacific and the BNSF cross. Anyway. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
0:40 You are at the Norfolk Southern crossing of Middle Road on the east side of Dunkirk, New York across Progress Drive from the Nestle Purina dog food plant waiting for Norfolk Southern train #206, an intermodal train, to come by heading east to Buffalo, New York. After the engines and a couple of cars passed, you started off to pace train #206 along Progress Drive. We could hear the turbos on the engines whining as the train started up the slight grade on the Norfolk Southern tracks. You paced the engines to just after the Werle Road crossing in Sheridan, New York where you stopped to watch and capture the rest of the train pass. 4:00 You are in the parking lot on the south east corner of East Third Street and Park Avenue where the City of Dunkirk, New York is taking down the pavilion that stood in the parking lot. A new pavilion is scheduled to replace the one that has been torn down. I presume that we will be seeing progress reports on the building of the new pavilion as 2021 progresses. Let us get back to the real reason why you are at this location at this time. CSX train #Q165, the westbound Canadian Pacific run through double stack train, comes by on the elevated tracks. CSX train #Q165, as you said, is a Canadian Pacific train that originates in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and terminates at Schiller Park Yard in Schiller Park, Illinois. Schiller Park Yard is located a little over a mile east of O'Hare International Airport. As usual Canadian Pacific has placed two engines on the front of the train. It is rare to see this train with a DPU. 6:17 You are back at the Norfolk Southern's Middle Road crossing. This time we have an eastbound Norfolk Southern mixed freight going past us. This was a long train with two mid-trains DPUs that appeared at 9:06. After the DPUs past you waited for the rest of the train to pass the Middle Road crossing.
Yes Im waiting to hopefully film when they tear down the pavilion. They have been doing a little prep work for a year now. Maybe covid has something to do with the slowdown. I guess they are building a building in place of the pavilion
The Train with the two CP units probably don’t have DPUs because stack trains, and auto rack trains are relatively light. With two loaded containers in a compartment the net tons in each compartment would only be around 50 tons. Loaded auto racks are around 20 to 25 net tons per car. Where other cars like box cars, tanks, covered hoppers, etc, etc, could be loaded from 100 to 110 net tons per car. That train had 144 compartments with a lot of empty and single containers and probably grossed out at 5,000 to 6,000 tons. A 144 car grain train would be a little over 20,000 gross tons and as much as 15,840 net tons, or 31,680,000 net pounds of grain. Dats a lot of corn flakes paw paw.
I don't know how you do those chases - the camera work is great! Hopefully you have a driver or helper so you are safe :) Great stuff - a double DPU Alright!
OKS !!! THANKS !!!! How's the PIZZA ???? Hope ALL goes Well for 2021 !!!! ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!!! Saw that the Recovery Crews Got ""OL"" SWIFTY with the ""FAMILY DOLLAR "" trailer out of the ditch !!
Wide World of Trains It’s a habit. When we met trains and was in the siding we inspected both sides of the passing trains. We counted the cars so if we saw anything wrong we could tell the crew how many cars behind their engine the problem was. If nothing was wrong we would just give them the car count.
