I just saw them perform this at a concert. During the bridge Tim asked who felt fear, anxiety and worry for the future. Many hands went up. He said, "I ask this question every time we perform this song, and every night many people raise their hands. Know that you're not alone."
We need a critical mass that's not afraid to act. I feel we're getting there as more people begin to realize the constraints of the system they live under and how much it affects their lives. I'm just a tad bit worried that peaceful protest isn't going to catalyse the change we want and at some point violence is going to be neccesary to be heard.
Perfect anthem for the nowhere generation of whiny, entitled, lazy, self important brats.

My son and I were fortunate enough to meet the band at Carolina Rebellion in 2013. Tim, Brandon, Joe, and Zach took the time to talk to us, and signed my "Endgame" CD, and my son's album. They were down-to-earth, and very genuine. It rained the show out later that afternoon, but they still made an impact on my boy and me by how they interacted with their fans. My son even had the RA "logo" tattooed on his right arm after the event.
My son died by suicide two years later, and I don't think I would have made it through if it hadn't been for Rise Against's music. I love this song, and I love this band. Thanks to Rise Against for years of fucking amazing heartfelt music. I hope to see you again someday soon.

Rise Against is pobably one of the few bands that managed to stick to their roots for 20+ years without sounding cringe.
They’ve always been a very political band, and not emo at all.

yeah but nobody to talk about it. Just saying superficial stuffs like "old Rise against style" or "reminds me of..." blablabla...lyrics don't count anymore, sad coz this band has deep meaningful and accurate lyrics.

I'm a teacher who grew up with listening to RA. This seriously hit home as I struggle to meet unrealistic expectations as parents get upset with me over things I cannot control.

I'm really psyched about how good quarantine seems to have been for Tim. His voice sounds so much cleaner and more energized
He’s been seeing a vocal coach for a couple of years. I listen to a podcast with him and his vocal coach, he had been struggling for quite a while and went looking for help.

Lets see how he will sound live. His voice on albums is always great, but usually his voice breaks quite a lot during live concerts. I really hope he could improve on that.

Guys, you have no idea how much this speaks out of my heart right now. Just lost the second job during the pandemic, will loose my flat in summer, two loans to pay off, a useless bachelor degree noone hires me with and depression's back after therapy. It's unreal how consistently and perfectly he makes his voice sound like that. There are dynamics, and it doesn't feel like you're being shouted AT, yet it paradoxically sounds like a passionate shout the entire time. Production helps too but still, he's doing so many conflicting emotionally deep things with his voice all at once. The video wouldn't make sense in my mind with the sound of the actual track, due to how relaxed and soft-spoken he looks when singing, except I've seen them a million times and watched him reliably create that tone every second he sings. 😆 Just amazing

I found this song a weird experience as a long time fan. When I first heard rise against, I felt like they were reaching out to me and giving me a voice. This song for me feels like they are doing the same, except to the next generation. 10/10 hope the next kids hear this and feel inspired like I did
After a dissapointment that A Day To Remember - You're Welcome was, this gives me hope that good music is definetly still out there. Stay the same Rise Against. Never change. First time in my life I've pre-ordered the album. Stay strong and stay safe.

But its been honest change all the way along. Theyve grown but never changed for sales or to get people to like them. Its always been organic growth of skill, message, age, and growth in their world views, all portrayed in the music and composition.

Kind of a more mainstream sound than my taste but you are right the chorus is pretty good lyric and melody wise.
To me its more like simple plan.
Well, since The Future is Now is basically the Offspring interpretation of Savior, I guess this is justified.
Although personally it reminds me more of All Time Low, A Day To Remember, Neck Deep, Knuckle Puck or something more pop punk even

I couldn't disagree more. Technically his singing is pretty good on this one, but bite? Not even a bit. He's never sounded so sterile and boring. Go listen to Tip the Scales and then try and say he has bite on this track. He sounds clean af, but no soul.

Idk if I am older or younger than the generation described here, but as an (almost) 23-year-old I feel a crushing uncertainty about the future. I want to be a musician, and I am not sure if I will be able to. Climate change, the pandemic, my (mild and hopefully temporal) disability, a fucked up economy, my mental health, and general uncertainty have me on the edge sometimes. I am sure many my age feel the same way. Will I ever have my own home? Will I ever be able to do what I love? Will I ever be content?
Thank you RA for being a crucial part of teenage me self-development. You gave me music. You gave me a sense of right and wrong. You even gave me art to cherish with my first love, whom I will never forget. Keep being amazing and doing incredible music. Hope we can meet in a show somewhen in the future. xo

All I hear is Appeal to Reason. Both Tim’s vocals and the mixing. Not a bad thing, that’s probably my second favorite of theirs.
@@dontyouworryaboutit_ Not sure if it's just UA-cam, but the audio mixing sounds much more like Black Market than Appeal to Reason to me. Appeal to Reason had a very full sound, with Tim front and center and very clear backup vocals. This is thinner imo, and the drums and rythm guitar sound more front and center
I dont get that vibe but considering Sudden Life is one of their worst songs, that isnt the best. This is better than SL but definitely a disappointment after thr banger that Broken Dreams Inc was.

Rise Against has been with us during every modern crisis and that says A LOT about this band.
I've listened to this most days since it was released. It puts into words a lot of what I've been feeling recently, like the best of Rise Against it makes me feel angry, but also comforted, and seen.

Fuck all expectations, isn't that what 2020 was all about? I really don't care about whatever "Rise Against should sound like" means, because the most important thing this band has ever taught me is that we humans are indeed a fucking mess most of the time, but still very capable of making the best of this single life that has been given to us, if we so wish it.

I love the lyrics to this song. Especially the ‘we climb these burning ladders.’ That part is so powerful in my mind. The way I interpret it is that the ladders are the ways of life we are taught to follow, the plans we are taught to make, and the futures we are taught to build, none of which will work in this new day and age. We climb the ladders that are breaking and burning before us, without realizing that there’s a new set of stairs to climb to make the world better.
I lost my job three weeks ago and this Sunday I start my next job but today just listening to this band has made me happy thank you for being there RISE AGAINST. You guys always find a way to make people happy :D

I used to wear a brand of clothing as a kid called Lost, to me it wasn’t about a brand, but rather an identity. A word that summarized an emotional resonance - a term that described the brittle confusion of a generation without an identity or a directive for what to do. Nowhere Generation resonates with me.
I'm 40 years old and so the lyrics "we are a no where generation, we are the kids that no one wants", is changed for me to i am the man that no one wants. Thanks to my wife leaving me, as my mom did as my friends have through the years and as foster care taught me. Everyone leaves no one will ever be there for me.

A just voice anarchy, Rise never has changed. Not a single one of their songs have been bad. Incredible through and through and the most relatable message to the majority of the human race. The greatest band in history, hands down. This isn't music. This is the voice of the people.

Its because Tim is singing clearly and using actual words instead of gibberish!
It has the Rise Against touch to it. But it also evokes the slight influence of those classic political anthems of the Vietnam War era. First thing I thought of listening to this one and damn does it sound good
