Sportster 1200 Very First Ride

- This is the 1999 Harley Sportster 1200 I got for one hellofa deal. It's a one owner all original 23000 mile bike. It's an XLH with the rear bags (still cleaning them) and had been serviced by a Harley dealer on a regular basis. I'm working on the factory windscreen (see my PlastX video) and will put it and the bags and other items back on here shortly. Can't say I was a Harley Fan, but I could just look at the thing and let it run. It's like listening to a Kia vs a Mustang 5.0. All the chrome and polished aluminum (now that it's polished) is outstanding. The sound just makes you wanna ride it. Still love my Chinese bikes though (easier to ride). I've got other videos of the cleaning up process I'll upload here shortly.
Dunno why the video is grainy. Doesn't look like that when I view the file But I think UA-cam isn't uploading the 4k video file.
Great bike, I love the colour.
I’m still getting into bikes, but in a couple of years I think I’ll buy a sportster as my first ride.
Money sadly don’t come as fast as you’d expect, especially if you’re a youngster like me lol.
Great bike. I just got one. 👍
Congratulations. They definitely aren't what I'm used too. But man dies it sound ;and look) awesome
Just got pretty much the same thing about 2 months ago but it's a 883.Beautiful bike!!
Just a pointer or two to get the bike started: Starting a HD is a two-step process. First, trip the switch closest to your right thumb. Wait a few seconds (count to four or five seconds) and then trip the next switch right next to it and hold it till the engine has kicked over (just a second or two). Then let it warm up for a couple of minutes before riding off, certainly never less than a minute ... I always give it a good three minutes ... especially in anything but hot weather. These steps will add years of life to the engine (as will NOT revving the engine at iddle - e.g. when in neutral or with the clutch pulled in at a red light, etc.). Have fun !
Thank ya. It is a bit cold natured.
What seat is that?
I think it's the stock seat. It was on it when I bought it.

It's a pretty hefty bike for a 1st bike. Not something I'd recommend for a 1st time rider. Get a cheaper Chinese bike (look at my xpect and kpm reviews). Learn on those then move up. And the Rebel doesn't look or sound as cool, but is much easier to ride (imo).
@@gregslair4278 oh, thank you kindly!
Didn’t know that, I’ll check your other videos.
Anyways great content, you got yourself a new subscriber!

@@ioanrafaelcodrea7560 thank you
Its a mans bike .............
It's definitely a big bike
Not a fan of the bow handel bars... But nice bike Luv the color!
Thank you. Can't say I'm a fan of the bars either.
they are called buck horns! and they rule
@@gregslair4278 it's a more natural posture for the arms and hands.... if you are used to street bikes maybe it won't suit you.
@@KAPANGAAAMASTER Had a Rebel 500 for a bit and it was a cruiser, so the Harley feels about the same, just a lot heavier.
456 lb!!...exactly!!
Not trying to hate but you seriously need to take a riders course
Lol, I already did. Maybe I need a Harley course, compared to my other bikes, it's huge.
idle is too low...should be 800 rpm
Thank you. I still haven't pulled it out yet, when I do, I'll adjust it.
Are you selling it?
Probably will next year. My brother has it at the moment.
I keep watching this over and over:
Between the nice bike and 1200cc music, the scenic beauty and your narration are outstanding!! 🇺🇸
Thank you. Though I think that is one of my shortest rides.
@@gregslair4278 > I watched that again, I like the fridge in the garage there!
@@chrispetersen113 Lol, every garage should have a fridge. Gotta keep the beer close by!
I'm having a Keystone Light as I type.
Just watched it again, and SSDD.
I really liked this video: Haven't ridden for 31 years, and bought a H-D 1200 last autumn...
Thank you.
@@gregslair4278 May I ask where you're from?
@@chrispetersen113 Indiana
@@gregslair4278 > My neighbor that sold me that Sportster just donated me a pair of black H-D boots :)
@@chrispetersen113 That was very nice of him. Hope they fit....
Get a real bike city boy
Hmmm, last I checked, EVERY bike of mine is a "Real" bike (unless your referring to our 78 Honda Express Scooter) and when I look out my door, I don't see anything but trees, creeks, fields and COWS.
@@gregslair4278 take you and your sissy bike back to the city where you belong city boy! You ever had a hee? My father used to own the legion. Where I come from we have hees! You city boys never had one! Get a hee!
@@mattsopp6303 go back to your cave
@@mattsopp6303 stop living in your father’s shadow and be a goddamn man;
You aren’t tough enough to tell people what should they ride.
If you don’t like this ride, go ahead and buy yourself a “real” bike, if you have the money to buy it.
Soft boy
WTF? Children should be in school.
